Steven from Seattle does not count. He was still straight on the show and Sean from San Fran doesn't count either. He wasn't one of the main characters on the show.

Real World in Philadelphia was a huge hit in Philadelphia, as this excerpt from Gail Shister's Phila. Inquirer explains:

"Real World was seen in 262,000 Philly-area homes, outdrawing the launch of Real World: San Diego Jan. 6 by almost 120,000 homes.

It was the second-most watched show on any network, broadcast or cable, in the time slot here, behind only CBS's Amazing Race on Viacom sister station KYW (273,000 homes). It beat a repeat of NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit by almost 12,000 homes.

Color us impressed: Broadcast TV reaches 100 percent of Philly's 2.9 million TV homes, but only 82 percent are wired for cable, according to Nielsen Media Research.

the fact that there are two gay guys (and one who is a double rarity...black and "straight acting") will keep me watching the show this year (even though, for me, the overall "cuteness factor" is down)

According to TSG, 25-year-old Landon Lueck was arrested and charged with harassment of a police horse following a drunken outing last year at a college football game in Wisconsin. Lueck pleaded guilty and was placed in a "deferred prosecution/first-offender program." Also known as a reality show."

The kid was suppossedly teasing the horse about his big teeth and mangy hair. The cops found out about the harrassment after detectives asked the horse in question, "Mr. Clompers, why the long face?"

Too bad the crew from Cops wasn't there. This Real World dude could have been on two reality shows, like that uber-annoying bitch from Big Brother who helped contaminate the Amazing Race this season.

I can't bring myself to watch the Real World anymore, not for many years. Too many of these kids who are just trying to be on MTV who will just turn up on endless Real World/Road Rules Challenges.

I knew a guy in college who harrassed a horse once. He soon broke up with his grilfriend soon after that.

I checked the episode out on Tuesday, only because I knew the guy, he was at FAMU, when I was at FSU and he dated this girl that's a friend of mine. I NEVER knew he was gay. I talked to her yesterday and she told me he came out after I graduated (he was 2 years behind me). He is SOOOOO PHYNE!!!! I would have loved to have had the opportunity to do something with him in college.

I do like the fact that we a more REAL representative of a black gay male on TV. He reminds me of me and my friends. From the wardrobe, to the speech, to the overall way he carries himself. He'd fit in perfectly with me and my friends. This will be great, I just hope that he represents us well. First Kwame and know Karomo. Two positive black men on reality TV in the same calendar year. WOW!!!

This is the first time I've ever known anyone on the Real World personally, My friend told me that he is being swarmed with phone calls lately, so she told me to call him like over the weekend after the calls die down. I'll let you guys know how the conversation went after I talk to him.

I said I wasn't going to watch this show anymore, especially after the nincompoops in Paris and the tired crowd in San Diego. The black guy on the San Diego show, Jaqueese (sp?), was particularly annoying to me, since he was basically as interesting as wallpaper. (Alton, that stunning sexpot from Las Vegas, was one of my favorites.)

Anyways, I had the show on and my partner and I started watching. Then I see the brotha, and he's so handsome, and I hear him speak and he's talking about the thin white woman from Santa Cruz and saying she's a model. I say to my partner, "I think he's gay."

And he was! I'd thought my gaydar for these DL-ish young'uns was off--but some you can spot through doors and across fields. Plus, Karamo is GORGEOUS! I hope he keeps his clothes off as much as possible.

I'm glad they have two gay men, and both of them are men of color--a black american and a puerto rican. I also like that they're different kinds of gay men--because there are all different kinds of gay men--gay people--out there.

It will be SOOO refreshing to finally see a gay person on a reality show (or just on TV in general) that I can identify with and relate too. Not every gay dude is a Carso/Marcellas/Bunky....LOL eek!

The original buzz was that one housemate was out from the beginning and one came out SLOWLY as the season went on. Maybe there were two housemates out at the beginning and Landon will end up being a third.

Interesting this year to say the least.

Watched the first episode repeated last night and actually enjoy the cast. Except for one of the girls from Santa Cruz, the rest of the cast looks pretty decent with an eclectic mix. Haven't really watched Real World since the Hawaii/New Orleans (which was later?) season and was drawn to it because of the two gay guy twist. Have to admit all the guys have great bodies and the locker room style bathroom is very interesting.

I did talk to Karomo, the coversation wasn't that long, but we did talk about a lot in the little time that we did talk. He said that he has receiverd thousands of calls from family and friends. Some of his family didn't even know, but he says that his immediate family knew (at least that's what he told me). He told me that he would have told me when we were in school together, but his girlfriend at the time was a friend of mine and he didn't know if I would tell her. He also told me that he hooked up with a few cute black guys just like himself in Philly, but he isn't sure whether or not not it made it in the show with all the editing that they do. According to him, he has to watch the show just like we do because he isn't sure how they edited everything and how people will react to what they watch as apposed to what REALLY happened in the house. He also told me that he really liked Willie, but he was just a little too flambouyant for him, and that in another place and time, they would be hitting the sheets. Lastly he told me that he realized that he would be the "prototype" for all gay-masculine-black men like he and I and that he did his best to always represent us well, he says he only hopes he didn't let anybody down. I told him that I'd call him at least once a week after each episode to talk to him about it. He said that he'd be looking forward to it. He also told me that he wished we had gotten a little closer in college. I said all he had to do was say the word and I'd be on a plane to Texas, and we both laughed.

I don't think Kokomo (is that his name?) is all that cute but in the most recent episode, he was walking around with his pants dragging so that he showed a bit of butt crack and I have to say he had some fine hunks of beef on the booty.

If you are not interested in Reality TV news/gossip/rumors, you wouldn't be lurking every minute on these threads. As for it being a spoiler, who the heck knows...it is purely speculation and who knows if it is even true.

If it's only a rumor that doesn't make it a spoiler. Besides, scottie reported back in the beginning of this thread, before any shows aired, that one guy was out from the beginning and the second would come out slowly during the season. From what I've read here, this Karamo guy isn't out to all of the other people on the show. Perhaps that's what the rumor refers to -- that slowly Karamo comes out to them, not that there's a third gay person.

Joe, I think you may be right. Although, if true, it would make for some GOOD Real World watching. I think the rumor was initiated by the 'one cast member slowly comes out' comment - meaning K.

I never said that I am not a reality show fan. I am! I just don't want to know in advance what is going to happen...whether your speculation is true or not, it is unwanted. You ruined the first episode of Survivor for many of us, please be a bit more respectful.

Perhaps I got the wrong impression in reading the thread. I'm not watching the show even if they did film here.

I don't think there are special rules for "reality" TV threads as compared to threads for other TV shows or movies or whatever. If there's some factual information that would spoil a show, it's considered good etiquette to not post it. Rumor or speculation is an entirely different matter. Those who are in disagreement on this and are resorting to name-calling might want to take that disagreement to private messages rather than risk this thread being locked by a moderator and ruining it for the others.

I am interested in how they're portraying my city, although not interested enough to watch. wink So those of you who are watching and would like to comment on this, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Joe, I've watched two of the episodes and they make Philly look fantastic. There's no North Philly, West Philly or South Philly ha ha. Its all Art Museum area and Rittenhouse Square, oh and a little Society Hill thrown in, too. Maybe they will get into some of the other areas later. They even made South Street look clean. My bf and the lesbian couple we hang with have pointed out people they know on the tv when they are at Shampoo. Its like "Ha ha, there is ----, figures he'd see a camera and have to get all up in it". Its fun to watch with them for this reason. They are all between 21 and 25 years old and get out alot. Not me. I do think I saw Kamoro out one time, though. I'd remember a good looking guy like that.

I do think Landon and MJ were a little too curious when they were sneaking a peak at Willie and his friend in bed. But hey, I was at the Folsom Street Fair this weekend in San Francisco and they were all sorts of straight boys gawking at the gay men having sex in public. Maybe I should just let this drop, but I think we should be free to talk about rumors and speculation on TV shows. I totally agree that we shouldn't post real spoilers about Survivor, etc., but Real World isn't a competition show, and I doubt that there are multiple Internet message boards trying spoil the show and bets being taken about what's going to happen week to week (though I could be wrong about that). If you've ever read spoiler boards, you would know that most of what they "spoil" turns out to not be true.

The fun of watching RW, to me, is the overly-dramatized roommate interaction and seeing the cities, not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's going to happen. In fact, during the San Diego season, much of what happened was written up in two local newspapers beforehand (because Frankie is from KC), including the fact that Frankie left. With Frankie leaving, they did print "If you don't want to know, stop reading now", but most of the info they printed was not labeled as "Spoiler", and no one seemed to get upset about it.

That being said, obviously some people do not enjoy knowing or speculating about future episodes (5 mad faces worth of not enjoying it!), so maybe there could be separate threads for talking about what already happened, and talking about what might happen.

Just my 2 cents.
