Elton and David wed today and I'm pleased for the couple. I've loved Elton's music for all of my life. CHEERS. MAZEL TOV.

Fantastic!

Good for both of them!

Congratulations and best wishes!

Congratulations Elton.
Thought I'd attach a definition of Civil Partnerships. Maybe something like this would be acceptable in the US where the term "gay marriage" is such a hot button issue.

BBC Q&A on Civil Partnerships

The British government is quite careful not to use the term marriage but at the same time conferring the same rights and benefits for same sex couples.

Also Elton wasn't the only knight to tie the knot today. Actor Sir Anthony Sher also "wed' his longtime partner.

I wish someone I knew was getting gay married... so I can go to the bachelor party. wink Apparently at Elton's bachelor party they had "shirtless waiters  sporting black ties and riding boots (serving) guests flutes of champagne. " Guests included "Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon, model Liz Hurley and musicians Bryan Adams, Gary Barlow and Kid Rock."

Some 700 same-sex couples were set to marry today in the UK. The Guardian's gay rights section.

Well the Raptors aren't doing much this year, maybe they could moonlight at topless waiters. Of course they way they play ball they would probably drop the champagne flutes. Any idea which celebs you'd like to invite.
If you can convince the Doc that gay marriage is a good thing I'll invite you to the wedding.

Not to turn this into a P&R thread, but I thought it was interesting that the media is basically this a "gay wedding" or a "gay marriage" or just a "marriage." Because the rights and responsibilities of the same-sex partnership are so close to straight marriage, it seems the media have simply dropped the pretense. Personally, that is why I am philosophically opposed to the second-tier status of "civil unions" or "domestic partnerships," pragmatically I don't think it matters what we call it - the one area where I agree with the fundies is that any legal recognition of gay relationships will inevitibly lead to real marriage - because society will eventually drop the pretense of difference between them - I didn't think it would take all of a week where Britain was concerned, though.

Back to the non P&R thoughts - I am totally with canmark on the bachelor party - give me some of that kind of waiter, yum! And although all reports indicated the ceremony itself was somber and serious, with only family present, the reception was bound to be a HUGE party - wouldn't mind being there either.

Thank you, I suspect it will be a topic of discussion when we get together later this week...

I think its great.

But I would far rather he find a job in the UK or Scotland... would that he would take a job in my company... sigh. That would really be a great Christmas gift.

Though even if we did do it here, it would still not be valid in the US unless I gave up my citizenship and moved here permanently (something I am obviously not about to do).

Word has it that Elton is very angry at Madonna. I guess Madge was suppose to be performing at his bachelor party and was a no-show. Madonna's people say she's on a family holiday. But Elton has flipped his toupee. I thought Madonna's stripping days were over!

I saw this blurb on the web yesterday and just let it fly by me. Like Elton...grow up and get over it. Don't get me wrong, I like Elton John, and I always have, and always will, but sometimes its like he acts like a spoiled child. The two need to kiss and get over it already, or something. rolleyes.gif

I read that she was invited to attend the party, not perform, and chose not to come. I'm thrilled that Elton's bringing all this publicity to his union but his press quotes are consistently bitchy and childish. He's redefining this business of being a "Sir."

Was George Michael invited?
