It's that time of the year again for the SF gay film festival, Frameline, and I'm at a loss about what to try and catch.

Please help me out and tell me if you've seen any of the films on the schedule and would recommend them.

So far, I'm only interested in the new documentary by Rosa von Praunheim on rightwing gays in Germany and the documentary by Susan Stryker, former head of the gay historical society here, about the Compton Cafeteria Riot, three years before Stonewall erupted in NYC.

Here's the link to the schedule: http://www.frameline.org/festival/29th/sch...dule/index.html

My type of film would be less politically oriented. I would be interested to know what you think of "Summer Storm", "My Brother Nikhil" or "Return of the Antipodeans - New Gay Shorts from Australia". Let me know if you see them.

They all seem to have some sports theme, either as subtext or major plot element.

A couple of the 'Antipodeans' shorts would probably make very interesting full length films.

I promise to look at the listings again for those films and see if they pique my cinematic interests.

"Summer Storm" sold out its screening at the Toronto gay film fest (and also played at the Toronto Int'l Film Fest last fall). Didn't see it myself, but supposedly it will get commercial release in selected cities.

"Gay Sex in the '70's" (documentary) sounds interesting.

"Gay Republicans" (documentary) is one I wanted to see in Toronto, but couldn't make the screening.

"Guys and Balls" silly fun along the lines of Dodgeball (well, maybe a bit more intelligent)--but German, and about soccer.

"Wilby Wonderful" is wonderful! Played commercially in Canada and I l loved it. Subtle, sweet. Bevy of Canadian film and TV stars like Sandra Oh, Paul Gross, Rebecca Jenkins, Callum Keith Rennie. Cute website, too.

"When I'm 64" sounds interesting as it's a romance about older gays. (Frankly, I'm tired of rom-coms about the A&F set.)
