I saw a report on the CBS evening news.
The image of Bugs they showed looks absolutely horrible. QUOTE
Talk about extreme makeovers. Take a look at what's happening to Daffy and Bugs.
Hoping to breathe new life into its animated Looney Tunes franchise and prop up the WB television network's slumping Kids' WB line-up, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. is planning to launch a new cartoon series this fall based on \"re-imagined\" versions of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tasmanian Devil, Lola Bunny, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.
Warner Bros. has created angular, slightly menacing-looking versions of the classic Looney Tunes characters for its new series, dubbed \"Loonatics\" and set in the year 2772.
Names for the new characters haven't been finalized, but they are likely to be derived from the originals: Buzz Bunny, for example.
Each new character retains personality quirks of the original. The new Bugs, for example, will be the natural leader of the Loonatics' spaceship; the new Daffy will remain confident that he is the one who should be in charge....
The plots are action-oriented, filled with chases and fights. Each character possesses a special crime-fighting power.
eek!

Stick to the original Bugs and company. Don't mess with them, please. Just air the original cartoons again. They will attract viewers.

Maybe we'll get Porky Pig as Pimpy Pig with Petunia as his ho. Perhaps an even gayer Tweety with Foghorn Leghorn as his sugar daddy. Speedy Gonzalez can be some kind of Mexican drug kingpin who supplies Petunia with crack and Tweety with crystal meth.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. The world survived the trend of having classic characters as babies - Muppet Babies and there were Bugs Bunny babies too - so I'm sure the world will survive this. It's just to try and stay fresh with kids.
The WB shows "Mucha Lucha" in the mornings now. My nephew likes that show and I think it's adorable. The Flea is hysterical.

Two words for Looney Tunes: New Coke!
The Simpsons covered similar ground in an episode where they added an annoying, in-your-face charater named Poochie to jazz up bart and Lisa's favorite cartoon Itchy and Scratchy. An abysmal failure!

It's funky, but I need to see it in the context it is in before I made a judgement.

I saw this on Good Morning America and my first reaction to seeing the new faces of Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner was that they looked real mean. They look like they're out to hurt people. But since many kids are so obsessed with violence nowadays and they consider cops to be the bad guys, these new makeovers may work. Whateva!

Nothing will take away from the pleasures of the originals. I bet these new versions last about a year before they're jettisoned. What the network should do is air the originals more often to please its older audience and introduce the youngsters to the wonderful world of Looney Tunes. And include lots of Pepe LePew! As Bugs himself would say about the people creating these images: "What maroons! What eskimo pie-heads!"

Well, they're supposed to be superheroes now, in the year 2772, so I suppose they're not going to be fighting cops.
But this thing is ridiculous. It's one thing to take the current characters and put them into a modern setting. Or to do what Steven Spielberg did with Tiny Toon Adventures -- create new characters in the spirit of the old ones. But this "Loonatics" thing is hideous.

What the hell is that shit? That looks less like Bugs Bunny and more like Cujo...on crack. And who do they expect to watch this? Children hoping to grow up and one day become serial killers?

I saw that story last night
I have my doubts as well
but one thing in the article was wrong--Teen Titans is an established comic book title before the Cartoon Network started running the shows
yes, I'm a cartoon/comics geek

Okay folks, don't you see what is happening here. This "new bunny/new coke" marketing idea only brings more attention to the old product/character and there will be an outcry for the old Bugs to come back and there will be new life breathed into the Looney Tunes because of all the "negative" publicity.
I bet this character change was part of a bigger picture to get people interested in the old Bugs. I bet Warner Brothers knew exactly what they were doing.

Spurred by a petition campaign, started by an 11-year-old, Warner Bros has seen the error of their ways and will not be foisting the retooled images of Bugs and his compatriots on us. Maybe they realized that if they did it, they'd "hate myself in the morning," in the words of Bugs himself.

Here's our little hero's website:
http://www.saveourlooneytunes.com/It seems he was on MSNBC with Keith Olbermann tonight, he'll be on CBS Early Show tomorrow and on Inside Edition on Monday.
The quote from the WB spokesperson fascinates me (from the AP article at CNN.com:)
QUOTE
Those \"early drawings\" have been revised into characters that are softer and less menacing, he said.
Sounds like it's watered down. wink

I find something very suspicious about this whole thing. I think WB never really intended to change the characters but just put it out there to get the Looney Tunes characters some much needed publicity. They've just put out DVDs with all the old cartoons and they sold very well, so why would they want to change thme now? And all the public outcry and just oh-so-coincidentally, a kid (the demographic they were supposedly trying to lure) is responsible for changing their minds? Me smells me a rat!
