Erickson charged with assault
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Orioles pitcher Scott Erickson was charged with assault, police said Monday.
Erickson was arrested Sunday, charged, and released on his own recognizance, a clerk at the Baltimore Central Booking facility said.
Police did not immediately release any other details.
The 34-year-old Erickson had a disappointing outing Sunday, allowing five runs and seven hits in five innings in the Orioles' 8-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
The right-hander missed all of last season after undergoing elbow surgery in August, 2000.
Erickson was the Orioles' opening day pitcher this season. He is 4-9 with a 4.25 ERA in 21 starts.
Erickson broke into the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins in 1990. He pitched a no-hitter against Milwaukee on April 27, 1994, with the Twins.
***The only thing I would like to add to this is going with a rumor I heard a few years ago. When I heard that Brady Anderson and him were a couple. The reason I bring this up is because usually when someone is charged with an assault, you get all of the details. Except this time it is being kept quiet. What is up with that?***

The
WBAL-TV report says the dispute was with his live-in girlfriend.

Not as disgusting as "He is HOT...he can smack me around if he wants to..."

From what has been reported so far she is the one that was throwing things around, biting him, and causing all the ruckus...he sets her a** outside the apt to cool off... guess the truth will eventually be told. Glad to see there is such a double standard when it comes to the women hitting men (Chuck Finley). Some woman bites me she's getting more than tossed out of the apartment.

The
Washington Post is reporting that the fight broke out when she (Lisa Ortiz) confronted him about whether he was cheating on her.
Read into that what you may.
The Post story makes it seem like they're both equally blameworthy. She started it. He escalated it. She escalated it some more. And so on and so on. Sad.

If the mention on ESPN's website can be believed, seems as though there was fault on both sides. She confronted him with an allegation of cheating, he threw her out, she came back and that's when the biting happened, then he put her none-too-gently into the elevator and sent her to the lobby. Sounds like a fight that got heated and unfortunately physical. I don't think anyone's making him out to be chronically abusive though.

It will be interesting to see how the public responds to this. Unfortunately, I can't see Erickson doing the "mea culpas" that Jason Kidd has had to in order to restore his image.
Then again, what is Erickson's image? He seems so mild mannered. But I guess I'd flip if someone bit my pitching arm. Ohh -- the problems some of them have with their beards.

I couldn't wait to see what was on the Outsports discussion board regarding this story, when I got home from my training class today. I know how many mentions there have been of "Brady's boyfriend" on this site.

And WHOM, inquiring minds want to know, was it that Mr. Erickson was cheating on Ms. Ortiz WITH ???
Maybe what made her particularly upset was, when she pulled back the covers, she found herself gazing upon Bra.... naah, no way
Then again, it could've gone like this......
WHOOSH (Sound of 380-thread-count linens being pulled back)
"Um, Hi Lisa - Long Time No See"....
"What? HIM again - Scott, you TOLD me you two were through, that your little experiment was over" ....
"Calm down Lisa, I can explain"
"Like Hell ... where's my purse".....
(Whispers)"Brady, you should get dressed and leave"..
"Hey Lisa, what's that you've got"?
"My new digital camera - I'd bet those boys at Outsports will LOVE seeing this little scene ....
"Now Lisa, that's really dumb - give me the camera ... NOW"!
"NO - I'm leaving now - hey let me go, OUCH ...... leggo or I'll bite ..... CHOMP!

Thanks, hanknyc & wurm; even though this is a dismal news story, your brilliantly sardonic riffs on the episode have given me the best laughs of the evening. I especially enjoyed the detail of the "380-thread-count linens..."
I believe you could be writing bawdy scripts for the theater.

Everyone involved is, of course, minimizing the incident. From the
Baltimore Sun this evening:
Lisa Ortiz: "This is a private matter between Scott and myself and unfortunately has escalated to the level of police involvement... Scott has never been physically abusive toward me, and in no way do I feel threatened or felt fear from Scott. This was just a case of miscommunication."
Scott Erickson: "There's no problems. There's nothing. It's just a bad break."
Fine, sorry I called him "a het who beats up on women." I take it all back.

My hunch on this is that she might "suspect" that he is cheating on her and knows full well it might be a man. Thus the attempts by all to dismiss and minmimize the whole thing. Thus after all, Scott has a lot to lose if the real world finds out his true orientation,if the girlfriend tells all. Who knows it might even be that she found incriminating evidence on this matter, when he was on a road trip. More will be revealed...

People up here in the Twin Cities still laugh about the time Scott was caught getting a hummer from a local, female reporter in the men's room of one of the trendy bars in downtown Minneapolis. Evidently neither stopped as a crowd gathered. She's pretty well known now, either doing the news on FOX or CNN nowdays. Her name escapes me. What I do remember is everyone talking about how well endowed Mr. Erickson is.
Just my 2-cents.
