# A fight over a pair of sunglasses brings one Racer to tears and leads the Team to a deep discussion about their relationship.
# A Detour proves to be incredibly exhausting and painful as one Racer finds it nearly impossible to remain standing.
# At the Pit Stop, one Team gets an unexpected penalty. Will it cost them the Race?
# One Team uses wits and charm to get the help of a local who takes a ride with them.
# Struggling over how to navigate causes some serious infighting for one Team that ends with one teammate demanding an apology from the other and creating a spectacle.
A fight over a pair of sunglasses? My guess is it's Jonathan & Victoria. And a "deep discussion about their relationship"? Using The Race as a substitute for couples counseling = BAD.
Anybody know any cruel nicknames for these chuckleheads, besides Hellboy/girl? I guess Team CIA for Gus & Hera will do in a pinch.

For this Thanksgiving week episode, I give thanks that there's a strong possibility that loud-mouth entrepreneur Jonathan may be eliminated. And when I say strong possibility I refer to the cosmic energy of millions of viewers wishing for his elimination.
Phil: "Jonathan and Victoria, I'm sorry to say, you're the last team to arrive. You've both been eliminated from the race."
Jonathan: "This is BULL-SXXX! I told you Victoria to run faster! Don't you remember that you're supposed to act after what I say not say what I act or whatever crap you're barking back at me."
Victoria: "That does it. When we get back, I'm not going to sign any more contracts to perform any more adult films for your so-called entrepreneurial venture. You jerk. You're dead to me, and to thousands of viewers around the world."
And that's our Thanksgiving story for the week.

Next week's preview where it looks like Jonathan wants to backhand Victoria makes me want to track him down and teach him a damn good lesson about treating women with dignity and respect. WHAT. AN. ass****!
YAY! Jon and Kris came in first.
Is Freddy the one who kept falling on those skis? Hilarious!
Adam on the zipfly: "AAAUUUGGGHHH! I LOVE YOU, MOM! AAAUUUGGGHHH!" What a homo!

That wrestler chick should body slam that ass****!
Like I said befor, I don't want them two, Jon and Victoria, to win the money. Him because his an ass**** that can take on a man so he acts that way towards women 'cause he knows that they won't beat the shit out of him. And her because she is with him!
Hey Victoria, wake up and see the slap coming bitch!
On a related(?) note, I take it back when I said that old model dude (Freddy) was a sort of eye candy for the show. Hellboy (Adam) well I'm still on the fence on him. Though that voice has to go!

Tonight's episode was a winner for all the new errors being created in TAR history! I mean, I don't think I've ever remember a team driving off in the wrong car! Too funny!
I was really thinking the sisters were doing really well then they made a wrong turn in the ending. (Should have caught the forshadowing with all the emphasis on "left turn" with the other teams.)
I felt sorry for Aaron having to do the roller skiing. I would definitely have been there to kiss his boo-boo!
And this episode was touching for the real genuine feelings coming out, like the grandparents forgiving each other for being so tough on each other and finally realizing that it's all just a game and that's not as important as love (and apparently contradicting last week's belief that she'd die for a $1million, this week she'll die for his love, awww).
And the girls from Queens basically gave up way back when they were stuck in neutral. Oh well, if you ain't gonna race, then you ain't gonna beat Phil's elimination. Buh-bye.

ARGH! I'm a huge fan of TAR, but I've managed to miss the first two episodes of the new season. *bows head in shame* Damn all of the hot shirtless boys in Wilmington! *smirk* I've always wanted to go to Scandinavia, so it's great that TBTB are taking the show to some new locals.
In any event, if someone on the board taped the first episode of the race and would be willing to send me a copy of the episode, it would be a greatly appreciated birthday present. (I turn 25 on the 25th of November.)

Out of everything, you know what really annoyed and confused me...the two girls, the friends - not the sisters - who the driver couldn't drive a stick....This bugged me, I kept screaming "What's wrong with you, It's not hard at all" I can understand when you first try it, it's weird and you stall alot, I remember I did. But 5 or 10 minutes after doing it, you get the hang of it really fast. I don't know why she couldn't do it.

The friends from NY deserved to be Philiminated last night. If you knew you were going to be on TAR which goes around the whole world. You have to expect that in some of the less industrialized countries that cars will have manual trasmissions, and if you don't know how to drive a stick you should learn pronto! HELLLLLOOOO!!!!
Hell boy has to be the biggest drama queen of the season. When he was threatening to throw himself on the train tracks after Rebecca chewed him out over his rant for his but ugly sunglasses, I was screaming DO IT!!!! DO IT!!!!
I stand by statement of last week that Jonathan is a combo of Will, Flo, and Jon from previous seasons. He just oozes sleaze, I hope someone on the race will call him on his sleaziness.
I really like the new twist how you are only allowed to do 6 road blocks the whole race, this should help out some of the weaker teams.
I don't know that I like this early trend of bunching teams up overnight during the middle of a leg. We had the camp at the glacier, and now the viking village.
It looks like next week we move to Sweden and one of the tasks takes place at an Ikea.

It's sort of like the bottle-neck that has happened at airports, train stations, and challenge sites when things didn't start going until the next morning.
Is the Yield still part of the game? I don't remember Phil mentioning it in episode one like he did for episode one of TAR5.

This was a great installemt. The pacing and editing was like drinking a quadruple shot of caffeine. I too was dumbfounded by the best friends lack of intelligence when it came to the stickshift. And I agree marinerfan. Hellboy gets the Oscar for dramaqueen.

Everytime Jonathan opens his big fat obnoxious mouth its like fingernails on a chalkboard. Good Lord man. But wasn't Norway simply gorgeous. Looked very much like my Pacific Northwest. Beautiful country.

"... should I? I am going to jump right onto these tracks. Do you want me to just jump onto the train tracks?!"
Actually, I felt sad for Hellboy. He is so obviously unhinged but his quiet, "I just can't have you not love me," showed a tender side. An obsessive tender side, but a tender side all the same.
The entrepeneur ("Blue Hair") is without question the most obnoxious player I have seen on this show. Count me in as one of the minority who wants to see him last for a while. Nothing like good controversy -- though I think his wife ("Botox") needs to get far away from him when this is over.

I think the drinking game for this season of TAR should be doing a shot everytime a player says "calm down."
Jim Allen
Nov 24 2004, 12:31 PM
Batboy, that way lies alcohol posioning. You know, they wouldn't have to remind each other to be calm if they were actually, you know, CALM. There's a difference between urgent and frantic.
Nothing much to add to the general Jonathan hatred. I know that violence between teams is a booting offense--see: the Guidos and Frats just prior to Tunisgate--but within a team? Leave it to the asshat Jonathan to break new ground.
Hellboy, what a piece of work he is. In fact, there's a somewhat disturbing trend of real verbal abuse by some of the guys towards their women. It makes me very uncomfortable. And Hellgirl? Break up with him now, it'll save the pain you'll experience when he finally says "Honey, I have something to tell you. I'm gay". Trust me.
Love the Grandparents. I love the dynamic they have (it's my mom and dad on the TV screen): the gruff ex-military guy, the wife who kinda chafes at the "50's" mentality of her husband. She's right though: they can't hope to compete physically, they have to be smarter than the others. Considering the collective IQ's of the other teams, that shouldn't be THAT difficult.
It seems as if the producers have made things a little tougher this time out. While bunching is a fact of life, I actually like that they're bunching at the next task, not airports so much yet. Airports are boring visually, but that Viking ship thing was way cool. I guess the teams self-selected and it was nice *cough* to see that Jonathan was an ass**** to a woman who was not his wife. Gack, I'm actually in the same state as that assmunch.

Wow ... Having missed the first two episodes of the race, I don't know if Lena & Kristy were prone to having bad luck, but their futility at the Roadblock had to have been the absolute worst luck that had fallen upon a team in the history of TAR ... this was right up there with Team Cockroach's horrible experience in TAR1 or Shola & Doyin being lost in the desert in TAR2. IMO, this was even worse b/c they actually made it to the Roadblock and they watched nearly every other team pass them, unlike the other 2 teams. To spend over 8 hours rolling over 100 bales of hay without finding the clue ... lord knows, that must have been incredibly rough. I felt horrible for the girls. Hopefully, they were well pampered in Sequesterville.
Gotta show some love for TAR editors ... IKEA was just great. Assembling the unit would have been much quicker than counting, IMO ... it should have been a no-brainer.
I absolutely despise the grandparents ... trying to get some slack at the Detour was downright shameful. BOO!
I was rather surprised that Gus & Hera couldn't find the Ice Bar, which was right by the train station, yet they were able to use the bus system in Stockholm to get to the Pitstop. They're no Momily, but I liked the team. It'd be great for a parent-child team to make it far in the race.
WTF is up with the horns that the closet case was sporting ... is there a story behind that?
Lots of frat boy eye candy on the race ... if you're into that sort of thing. All of the pretty guy-pretty girl teams sort of blend together.
Jonathan & Victoria ... they are the Colin & Christie of this season. I fully expect them to be Yielded sometime this season, if they make it to the next Yield. (IMO, it's MUCH better that there are only 3 Yields on this season of the race, maybe they'll eventually use one in the future.) He's rather scary, although she seems to be able to hold her own.
Other than Gus & Hera, no real navigational issues in this episode ... although, given that they seem to be going to Africa next week (For the first time since TAR1, I'm completely unspoiled, *gasp*), I have a hunch that a few teams will run into some trouble.
Phil ... how I've missed you. I'll never stray again.

Kevin, a pair of girls finished last. Well, "finished" is misleading; Phil came and told them they were through after several hours trying to complete the roadblock (or detour - I always forget which is which). Sucks for them, but they never registered with me, and I'm glad the seniors and Bolo (woof!) & what's-her-face remain.
Why so many teams chose to count than construct is a mystery. How hard is it to assemble a desk from Ikea?

I disagree. While they certainly had some bad luck, there must have been incompetence on their part as well. 100 bales of hay and NO clue? Highly unlikely. What is more likely is she missed the clue in several bales that she opened. The clue to hay ratio was about 1:10 (I think).
Picking ten bales of hay with no clue has a probabilty less than 35%. Picking 50 bales with no clue has a probability of less than half a percent! She clearly had unrolled bales with clues but failed to find them in the hay.
Bad luck + mild incompetence = Buh-bye.
IKEA was cool. Blatant commercial tie-in, but one that was done well.

And who would have thought an Ikea Detour would take 5 hours! But then again, trying to find parking at Ikea on a Saturday is almost as bad.
I absolutely hate Jerkface & his whiny voice. If I hear another "Victoriaaaaa!" It's like fingernails on the chalkboard. And if Victoria Botox wants to be with him, then she's just as bad.
My favorite teams are Kris/Jon and Hayden/Aaron. Although for some reason, I just can't distinguish between Kris/Jon and Freddy/Kendra. I also find it cute that Hellboy admitted that he is afraid of everything.

Puckman brings up my rear, I mean brings up the rear. Loved the rainbow flags on the Norweigan busses.

I was surprised by how many teams chose not to write the number totals down on anything, including the one smart couple who used their hands. Sweden looks cool. What a great episode!!!
First hats off to the mormon girls for not giving up. It could have been a non elimination leg. I really admire how they kept a positive attitude through the whole roadblock. More teams need to take a lesson from this team.
I thought the detour was hilarious. I probably would have opted to count things until I saw the bins and would have promptly changed my mind.
I thought for a moment in the cab that John was totally going to hit Victoria, it was then that I realized he probably has in the past, yet she is dumb enought to stay with him, most likely for the money. I think botox may have done the roadblock due to the new rule how you can only do 6 roadblocks throughout the whole race.
Hellboy has to be the biggest p***y ever. I loved Rebecca's comments about how sometimes she has to act like his mom, girlfriend, sister because he is afraid of everything.

I think I would have struggled over deciding which task to do for the roadblock. I mean, have you ever put together something from IKEA? Their products are crap and sometimes you have missing pieces, or pieces that don't fit, so that would have been an awful challenge if you happen to get one of their many defective boxes. But then again, those bins were full of stuff. I think counting the pans probably tripped people up. I mean, did you count each pan individually or do they count as one even though two are wrapped together in plastic? Yep, IKEA would have been my downfall. I'm really surprised the wrestlers opted to COUNT! Oh my, don't they know better not to rely on their brains?
I thought it was funny when Freddy pronounced IKEA as eye-KI-ay. He is so NOT well-traveled.
I'm glad my favorites are in the top two: Hayden/Aaron and Kris/Jon. The two teams really seem to enjoy the trip and aren't as angry as other teams.
I will miss the Mormon girls. I think they played fair and worked hard. Plus, I'll miss how they always had this shocked stare whenever they watched Jonathan berate botox woman.

I dunno, I'm a little disappointed in this season so far, for a number of reasons:
1. We've gotten away from the average racers, like the "Bowling Moms", and we've gone to casting actors and models. While they're nice to look at, I don't see much substance. Give me Team Guido or the New Yorkers from the first season over this group any day.
2. I thought the conduct of Americans, who were in one of the dirt poorest countries in the world, was just embarrassing....as bad as it's been in the past, it's just horrendous now
3. Now we're at a point that there are just certain parts of the world where it's simply too dangerous to send Americans to race (remember when Survivor wanted to film in Jordan? The title of the show could well have taken on a WHOLE different meaning), so we're gonna be fixated on Europe and Oceania, I suspect. Not sure if I was CBS I'd have even sent them to Senegal, as it is largely an Islamic country, and lots of Muslims right now aren't real thrilled about our current occupation of another Islamic country.

FeverDog, it was a stupid non-elimination round. The Grandparents were spared. They said that they were the oldest team to survive this far.
Hellboy is.....a piece of work, isn't he? He has great arms but what a baby! He's such a drama queen it's almost a parody.
After the relatively easy stops in Scandanavia, Senegal must have been a real shock. Back to taxi madness and so on. The salt thing must have been hell. How reassuring to see the ugly Americanisms pop up again.
I'm not in to the teams at all this year--I can't tell two of the straight couples apart, for example--but I love The Race itself. You can see the stress just eating at some of the teams.

Well I always enjoy the episodes in the third world countries, that is when the stress levels of the teams multiplies.
I wonder if someone said something to Jonathan about his behavior? He was edited to be the nicest player in last nights episode. To see him giving Candy to the kids, I was like WTF??? Then I started to think were we supposed to see him nasty at the start and progressively get nicer throughout the season? I think they may make it to the final leg of the race.
Hellboy has now threatened to kill himself twice. What a p***y I was laughing so hard to see the girls beat him at the roadblock. The sad thing is he is a personal trainer and should be in the best shape out of all the teams along with the wrestlers.
I wonder how the old people will get money to help them in the next leg of the race? There didn't appear to be a lot of tourists around that would be able to give them money. I doubt the locals will fork over money to Americans.
It was smart to see some of the weaker players do the roadblock this leg, due to the new rule. I wonder if this will hurt Jonathan and Victoria, it looks like he has done all of the roadblocks so far.

I love when the taxis were running out of gas or having to change a flat tire....it was like nothing to the locals and practically killed some of the other teams...!
My worry in Senegal would not so much be coming in first, but just being safe, and making sure that a taxi driver did not take us out into the bush and kill me and my teammate.
