Full Version: Millwood throws a no hitter

Millwood became the first National League pitcher in nearly 18 months and just the second in the 33-year history of Veterans Stadium to toss a no-hitter, dominating the Giants in a 1-0 masterpiece.

Millwood is now 4-1 on the season and it looks like it was really the best offseason aquisition by the Phils thus far.

Throwing a no-hitter against the Giants is no easy task; was Barry Bonds in the line up?

Yes Bonds did play and went 0-3. Millwood walked only 3 (strangely not Bonds!) and struck out 10. Can't believe the Braves let him get away.

I can't believe that I could've been at the game! My brother called me up and said he had an extra ticket. I said no because I hadn't yet gotten out of bed and showered. I'm such a fool!

Bonds has 27 Vet homers, more than any other visiting player, but was shut out all weekend. Woo-hoo!

Heard on the sports that the other no-hitter was against the Giants as well - in 1990 or '91.

Correct. The other Vet nine-inning no-hitter was in 1990 by Terry Mulholland.

There was a rain-shortened 5-inning no-hitter by Montreal's Pascual Perez in 1988. I was at that game, at least. wink

Odd trivia: the last three no-hitters against the Giants were all by Kevins: Millwood, Brown (in 1997 for Florida), and Gross (in 1992 for Los Angeles).
