Found this on TV Guide online. It's a question written to columnist Matt Roush:
QUOTE
Question:
I have enjoyed watching The Amazing Race with my 9-year-old daughter. We love seeing the different parts of the world. I was very dismayed to see the show have a homosexual couple this time around. It seems to me CBS tries to package this as a family show. I have no desire to explain to my daughter at this time in her life how two boys can be boyfriends. The Amazing Race has lost me as a viewer for this season. — Rob O'D.
Matt:
Happily, I think the show will survive anyway. You must be relatively new to Amazing Race, because you seem unaware that a gay couple actually won the race several cycles ago. The notion that gay people and couples should be banned from participating in even something as trivial as a popular reality-TV show is alarming, but these days, hardly surprising. Hate to break it to you, but homosexuals have families and many are even raising families. They are not out of place on a \"family\" show (although PBS didn't seem to much care for lesbian parents showing up in an episode of Postcards from Buster).
Bravo Matt!

Don't forget TAR fans. Tonite is the night for the second installment. Great behind the scenes story on this show in this weeks TV GUide by the way. How many people need to do what on each part of the show that is filmed. It was really fascinating learning what actually goes on behind the scenes. Also a really good read about Boston Rob and Amber, and just how hated they are, how everybody is out to get them, that they know it and welcome it. Game on!

As much as I loathe and detest team media whore they have been running a smart race. God please don't let them win!
I found it interesting that if you chose to do the recipie leg of the detour that you had to use your own money. Knowing this why would any team choose to do this over the boooks??? I was a tad confused by team PFLAG were they out of money or just out of Chilean currency???
Next week looks interesting when team media whore steals team lesbionics cab, this should create some huge drama! Yea we love drama on reality shows, isn't that why we watch these shows.
The roadblock really didn't seem to be that difficult. Did they do away with last seasons rule about one person not doing most of the roadblocks? Phil didn't say it when he described the roadblock.
Phil was looking really good last night!

I'm really despising Romber's infusion of the "Survivor" backstabing, lies, and bribery into our TAR show!!! If I wanted to watch backstabing, lies, and bribery, I would tune into "Survivor," which I haven't done in three seasons! TAR has always been above all that with just teams trying to out run and out think each other. I just hope what they say about karma and what comes around really does come back and bite that Boston butt.
As for the other teams, weren't the guys sweet at the end when they barely made it through but had to squash the blonde girls? The one guy choking up was just too sweet, I wanted to give him a hug!
And Ron the former POW almost made me fall out of my sofa when he was doing the book stacking challenge and he held 10 books with one hand and said to the camera "big hands really comes in handy." Oh. My. Gawd. You better bring those big hands to my doorsteps, pronto!

Boston Rahb is annoying as all hell, but the other teams are really, really pissing me off with their galactic stupidity. Team Beauty POW is dull as dishwater, Team PFLAG...pfft! and Team Retirement is just exhausting to watch. Team EnronCom is ok, even though the wife reminds me way too much of a cross between Diana Ross and a pomeranian. I keep expecting her to bust out with "Tooouuch me in the morning..." Oh, and Team Will and Jack? Haaaate. God. Cannot stand them at all. They're this horrid combination of Team Guido and Team Cha-Cha-Cha--and I want to slap them!
And dammit, where's my man candy! Brian and Greg are so not filling the order here, folks. Oh, for the return of HotJon and the speedo...

I was really disappointed in last night's episode.
I've never been a fan of the eating roadblocks. I think they are stupid, but its not the eating part that has me miffed.
To me, this was the episode that broke The Amazing Race. To have three teams choose not to do the roadblock and none of them be eliminated shows a terrible flaw in the rules. I'm guessing that when the rules were written a 4 hour penalty was probably appropriate since tasks usually don't take four hours to complete, but now with tasks that can take hours to do, the game is broken. Those three teams are DNF in my book. One of them should have been eliminated. Bleah.
At first I thought it was just distaste for Rob, but I've come to the conclusion that such a glaring flaw in the rules is what bothers me. And it's not like they really couldn't do it. They didn't WANT to do it (not that I blame them) These are very different things, and to be rewarded for not doing the roadblock is totally cheesy.
Not only was the episode disappointing, it sets up a bad precident for future races. Now the teams that arrive first at difficult roadblocks will just choose not to do them. The DNF penalty needs to be more severe! In my opinion, no team that fails to complete all tasks should be allowed to finish before a team that does do all the tasks.
Grrr. I'm thinking I might just give up on TAR.

I agree. For teams that do not finish the roadblocks, they should fall in line behind all teams that do finish in the order of their surrender. Meaning: Rob and Amber would have finished just behind the blondes and so on until the last team to surrender would have been eliminated. I see this as a problem the show creators did not envision.

I agree that the whole four-hour penalty has been abused by the teams last night, and I hated seeing Romber laugh as they approached the pit stop all happy with their manipulation. I pity the kids that they're going to breed. Ugh.
And to think of teams like last season's Mormon sisters where that one sister spent hours into the night rolling haystacks and cutting her hands from the wiring just to look for a clue. Did she give up? Did she whine? Did she conspire with others? No, she just kept on going, it's the determination that makes teams winners, not their ability to bribe, steal, and manipulate.
I'm sad to see the pseudo lesbo team lose, just because they spoke the language and I liked seeing teams use a second language well and not butcher it. But despite knowing the language, why didn't they stop to make sure they were headed in the right direction. After two hours of coastline, didn't you wonder where the mountains were ladies? Sigh. Another team lost to bad directions.
So my new favorite team are the brothers. Yeah, they're not so smart and they're a bit gruffy, but they have this fun goofiness that I like. I wouldn't toss them out of bed.

They've managed to figure that out for themselves. They are no longer dating according to an article I read in TV Guide.
I also hate these eating challenges. I don't want to watch people vomit. I'm also tiring of the groupings. I understand the need for this at times but it seems every week kicks off with all the teams waiting for a museum, park, whatever to open rather than the leading team getting to keep part of their lead.
The 4 hour penalty should kick in from the time the last team arrives not the next team. I'll bet they change that rule for the next installment.
Team PFLAG's mom sure plays in to the stereotype that women have no sense of direction, doesn't she? And Bianca and Debbie were Rand-McNally challenged as well.
I understand the dislike for Rob and Amber, but they are playing very smart. The other teams are naive and ignorant to think otherwise. They are letting their dislike for them to distract them too much. They've got to beat all the teams not just Rob and Amber.

Wow I can't believe nobody ahs commented on last night's show yet! Are people not that enthusiastic about this season?
Anyway it was so funny when Rob and Amber boarded the plane at the last minute, deflating the other teams who thought for sure they'd gotten a big lead on them. The other teams are way too focused on beating them and only them and will lead to the demise of many of them. Love 'em or hate 'em, R&A are playing a great game.
I was kind of glad to see Team PFLAG go last night. Pessimis-trick was really grating on my nerves with his constant whining.
But the next team to go had better be Jonathan and Victoria, er, I mean Ray and Deanna. What a dick he is and what a wuss she is. He's mocking the old folks constantly and yet they are neck and neck. Douche bag!
Next week looks really exciting with the Team Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure having an accident and Gretchen suffering a bad fall.

Yes, last night was good. I love to hate Romber. You have to give them credit, they are true competitors. I can appreciate the other teams hating them and not wanting them to win, but they really should not focus too much on THAT part of the game and just try to beat everyone.
The previews for next week really disturbed me, the car crash and Gretchen -- OMG she was litterally a bloody mess from an apparent fall. I hope it looks worse than it really is, poor thing. I'm always a sucker for the sweet, underdog older folks. Go team AARP!

CHIathlete, it disturbed me too. Ugh, it looked awful with all that blood. But it also looked scary with one of the brothers standing over someone laying on the ground after the car accident. And it also looked like they were in Africa, so I wonder how far away they are from medical help. So far the brothers are my favorite team so I hope they're OK.

Last night was the first show I watched of season seven of "The Amazing Race" and I like this group of contestants than the one in season six. Team Rob/Amber...I can see why some viewers and fellow Outsports members may dislike them but I really gotta give Rob credit for his tactics - smart bugger. One team who I want to see out of the compeition and I thought they were was Ray/Deana - Ray is a competitor, a jerk, but damn he's got a fine body. As for the eliminated team, Team Susan/Patrick, feel bad for Susan - she didn't want to lose but that damn son of hers dragged her down. Susan should've(shoulda, woulda, coulda)been more forceful and pulled the reins in on Patrick and bitched slapped her son and tell him to play hard and don't quit, but then when people like Patrick have that kind of attitude in a team situation it's hard to change their minds and outlook and they don't realize they're bringing down their partner/team. I was irritated at how pessimistic he was. If I was on that show I would do anything to not be in last place no matter how difficult the challenges are.
On to lighter things - the places these contestants had to go in South America were beautiful and the men at the ranch in Argentina were eye catching too.
Adios!

I've really enjoyed the last 2 episodes of TAR tremendously.I know you guys all hate Team Ambore-but they've literally had me in stitches with their antics.I thought the deal at the food challenge was nothing short of brilliant-devious,but brilliant. I'd probably feel differently if I had watched Survivor long enough to grow weary of Rob's antics, but once the eye candy leaves a reality show I tune out and totally lose interest. So I'm sure I missed all the scheming and backbiting Rob is notorious for.Right now I just think he's hilarious, while a couple of the other teams-notably WeHo just strike me as pathetic and petty. Please tell me they get eliminated SOON-they're more pitiful and embarrassing than Team Senile... eek!
Glad to hear that Ron is no longer stuck with the BQ-I've thought that he was hot ever since he burst onto the airwaves when he was downed in Iraq.I even tried to catch him when he was doing his stint as a correspondent at CNN,but I never could figure out when he was going to be on giving a report.I think CBS missed the boat by not pairing him up with the buddy he was captured with. They were both equally hot and spending all those hours alone together in that chopper, and then to be captured together...You just know that they've had to develop a very Special relationship. wink

It's strange that tonight's episode is 2 hours.
I'm thinking it's a non-elimination leg since we are overdue for one soon.
While watching last week's episode, I kept thinking that it was going to be a non-elimination leg since they kind of played up Patrick's quitting whine and mom with her never give up attitude. I thought they were setting up the lesson that even when all hopes seem lost, you Never Give Up on TAR. EVER. But since that didn't happen, I bet this week will be non-elimination.

I watched 3 hours of TAR tonight (last weeks eppie and the 2 hour job). Some really good stuff in there.
Lions rule.
It seems like they're really concentrating on non-European places; as a total Euro-phile, I'm a bit bummed about that, but as a TAR fan, it's great. You can feel the stress taking a toll on the Racers.
Romber, meh. I hate Survivor so I don't know what they were like there, but I sure am growing to dislike Rob. He seems to have a bit of pyscho close to the surfrace; Amber is just bland, along for the ride.
Gretchen of Team AARP is one tough broad, eh? I knew the loss of money was coming when they were non-Phileminated, but taking their backpacks too? That was a new, and perhaps, overly harsh twist. They did really well to stay alive.
Ron: Wow. Shirt off. Nice lean build, a light dusting of chest fur. As long as he would promise not to talk, I'd do him. I like that he gets called a "stupid redneck" next week. Brang it AWN.
Team WeHo. Sorry, gotta agree with Romber here, stopping at the Brothers accident site was dumb of them. Do what the other teams did, make sure everyone was OK and move on. Lynn made some really unfortunate comments when they got lost; after the toll both operator gave him explicit instructions about how to get to the Airport, he took the wrong fork in the road. It also turned in to the beginning of that awful book Bonfire of the Vanities. "This is like....Compton". Yuck.
Good riddance Ray; I really can't tolerate big muscle heads that verbally abuse their female partners. Uchenna and Joyce are running a good Race--they seem to have a bit of a directional problem, but they seem to be really working together as a team. I think they could easily make the Final Three.

Last night's episodes were pretty cool. So glad to see Lunkhead and the wife out. Sucked that they won the cars for winning the first leg last night. Hey Ray how does it feel to get beaten by a couple of fags, a team that suffered a car wreck and a pair of geriatrics, one of whom is a guy with a chics name and the other is a woman with a gashing head wound! Go do some more steroids you loser! All those muscles couldn't help you crush a little corn meal? Nah nah!!!
Team WeHo's comments when they got lost were pretty crappy. But I was glad they grew some balls when not letting Rob and his test pattern partner in the van. Rob's outrage at their behavior was laughable. And at first their getting help because of their Survivor history was okay, but now it's too much.
I am very much expecting to find out that Uchenna and Joyce will adopt one of the kids from that orphanage. What a great story that would be.
I love the brothers. The Bill & Ted's Excellent Adveture speak gets a bit old, but they seem very genuine to me.

Wow, what an amazing two hours! The brother's emotional reaction at the end of the night was awesome and had me tearing up, too. Yeah, one evil team down, one to go.
Ron without his shirt = Bobby panting for more.

Even with a little chest hair (which I prefer none at all), he is freakin' hot! And, have I mentioned his nice ass, yet?

Oh, yeah, I have about a half dozen times.
Okay, why is it everytime we go to Africa, some bastard has to say racist things. Team WeHo should be ashamed of themselves.
What a strange twist for the last-place team during a non-eliminatiuon round: surrender everything for the duration of the race. I'm very proud of Gretchen and Meredith for pulling thru and coming out with their best finish yet. Good for them. They have accomplished a lot!
My dream final three: Ron and whatshername, the brothers, and Geritol.

Ok, this new "twist" of stripping a team of everything in a non-elimination leg is utter and complete bullshit. I fail to see how this makes the race any more "amazing"--in my opinion, this and those goddamned gross-out eating challenges are making this show less than amazing. Don't get me started on how this show has quickly gone from actual clues (remember season one? Ah, the good old days) to straight-out "go here, do this" instructions.
Lynn and Alex. Need to buy a big old bag of Shut the f**k Up. And here I thought that no one could top KKKendra's elitist asshattery from just a couple of months ago. "Let's find someone who looks least likely to have a gun"??? The hell? And then whichever one of the Bopsy Twins follows it up with "Oh, here's Tupac."?? TUPAC?? In two hours they achieved what I thought was impossible: they made me hate them more than Jackassathon. Passive-aggressive, wheedling, whiny, insecure f**ktards. When I saw that next week they have a flat tire, I laughed. Bitches.
And thank GOD that Ray is gone. Deana needs a wake-up call, stat. Why she'd want to try to pursue a relationship with a moron who, in so many words, basically said she was weak and stupid is beyond me.
At this point, I'm rooting for Uchenna and Joyce (they've got the Chip and Kim Niceness Factor working for them) and Brian and Greg (Lord knows they need some good luck to come their way).
