I usually avoid sports movies, but I am getting excited about catching "The Longest Yard" in theaters this weekend.

Judging from the TV ads and pix from the flick, I expect lots of beefcake will be on display on the big screen.

Has anyone seen it yet, at a sneak preview? How is the eye candy?

And speaking of eye candy, check out this site for stills of the actors and players in the movie: http://www.tribute.ca/PHOTO_DT.asp?Id=8618&NAME=23387 .

Just when I was wondering whatever happened to Brian Bosworth, I find this photo: http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=18085...=571907&intl=us
.

Yes, I will have to see the flick in the theater and then rent the DVD.

That movie looks retarded but Adam Sandler has been looking good in the ads. I'll probably download it.

You mean Kevin Nash didnt get the Oscar when he was in The Punisher? Such great acting abilities. (tallest wrestler in the picture for those who dont know...other two are Bill "I really wasnt that great at Univ of Georgia" Goldberg and Stone Cold Steve Austin).

But I may go see the movie. It looks pretty cool.

I recall the original "The Longest Yard" being pretty good. Burt Reynolds was in his prime. Eddie Albert was the mean warden.

This remake seems like a vehicle for Adam Sandler, Chris Rock (he was in the remake of "Heaven Can Wait," which didn't live up to the Warren Beatty version)... even Burt Reynolds puts in an appearance.

Good memory, canmark.

Now, can you recall who played the warden's secretary with an outrageously high beehive hairdo?

Give up?

It was none other than Miss Bernadette Peters.

Why do I recall that fact, decades after having seen the original, instead of any of the beefcake in the background?

I am finding the ads for this movie extremely annoying. I will not see it.

Ditto--and I'm also sick of ESPN shilling for it; if Dan Patrick mentions that Michael Irvin is really good in it or that he (Patrick) wears a "porn mustache" in it even one more time, I can't be held responsible for my actions!

Okay, I've been watching too many European arthouse films and not enough porn DVD, so I don't know what the hell a "porn moustache" is and would love a definition of one.

(I really gotta hip with the modern lingo!)

For an example of a porn mustache, one needs to go no further than Ron The Hedgehog Jeremy.

No desire to see that movie, but the bodies alone may make me go...

I agree about the eye candy. I was watching MTV the other morning, and a video came on. The camera moved slowly up the body of the guy starting at his navel and happy trail, and moving up his chest to his face. I was like, damn, whose body is that? I was surprised to see that it was Nelly's. His body has gotten smoking hot.

As for Adam Sandler, I've always liked him for his big booty.

Speaking of the ads, I heard this one but didn't see it because I was in the kitchen. It went something like this: there was a voice singing something like "I'm a little Dutch girl dressed in blue..." and then he pauses and says "I really shouldn't be playing in the game, should I?" followed by Adam Sandler's "No." Makes me wonder about the gay content in the film, especially seeing as it's set in a prison. But I'm still not seeing it.

And why go see something just because of hot bodies? There are an infinite number of sources of hot bodies. Why waste money to see something that could very well be a crapfest, just because of hot bodies?
MPetrelis
Um, because there will be hot beefy bodies in football uniforms or hunky ex-players showing skin?

According to USA Today's review , it features "prison gays cheerleading in drag." rolleyes.gif

Oh, no! That USA Today review mentioning the gay prisoners on the cheering squad worries me. I hope the PC folks at GLAAD don't see this film and try to censor it and have it yanked from theaters before I get the chance to see it.

And you can't see beefy bodies in football or ex-players showing skin anywhere else?

Care to recommend a queer porno DVD or two? I hate to say it, but I've gone kind of tired of the pix on the big muscle bears site!

I had no intention of seeing the film, but even if I did, the fact it includes numerous jokes about rape (per review in LA Daily News) would keep me away.

The clip they showed on CNN yesterday while interviewing Bill Goldberg definitely had me wondering exactly which crowd the studio is trying to attract with all the steroid guys. The clip showed him in a shower, every bit of him visible from the front except for what was being hidden by a metal bar, and some really lame joke was made by Sandler and Rock about his "big hammer."

From the review in the Phila. Daily News:

QUOTE
Also, for a throwaway comedy, \"The Longest Yard\" engages in an alarming amount of race-baiting. The all-white storm troopers of the prison guard team taunt black inmates with racial slurs, prelude to incredibly crude payback smackdowns during the big game.

That kind of manipulation has a creepy edge to it, especially alongside way-too-frequent \"kidding\" about the movie's gay caricatures.
MPetrelis
Billy Goldberg filmed taking a shower! I think I just forgot about the cinema of Godard, Tarr, Herzog and Antonioni.
