I'm about to order two films from this DVD distribution company , made by my favorite director, Bela Tarr of Hungary.

Since the DVDs and this company exist in a legal copyright limbo, I'm a bit nervous about laying out some money for two films, but two Tarr films otherwise unavailable to US audiences.

Noted film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum of the Chicago Reader has called attention to this DVD distributor and he's explained that films with a quality rating above 6 are worth the money.

The two Tarr films I desparately want, "Damnation" and "Werchmeister Harmonies," have a quality rating of 8.

So, my question is, has anyone ordered from this company?

I would appreciate any advice or feedback folks may have before I send off the money and order the Tarr flicks.

No feedback on this particular firm, but if they accept credit cards, if you don't receive the DVDs or there is a problem with them, you can always contact your credit card co. for a chargeback.

If you're nervous about ordering it from this company, have you tried U.S. based companies to see if they can special order the film (e.g. TLAvideo, Amazon, etc.). You could also try the international divisions of US websites (e.g. Amazon, Tower, Virgin) to see if you can order it through them.

Thanks for the advice. My cinema-loving gene is screaming for me to order the two Tarr DVDs and see what the quality is like.

They rate an 8 on the self-quality totem pole of the site and that could be the best way to finally see some Tarr films again.

After all, his flicks don't come around all that often at rep houses or film archives.
