i wish i could see those guys live again.. i missed them so many times when i was living in Montréal.. they would play there all the time. Although it wasn't with Belladonna.. who i really like. I was stuck in the damn stands in Ottawa last show.. i tried going down to the floor and security was so tight (in a bad way).. it sucked. Ottawa crowds suck. People were sitting down and chatting while anthrax were kicking ass.

A.I.R., In my world, Indians, I am the law, Caught in a mosh.. can't beat that stuff.

Are the 3 recent albums you're talking about with Belladonna or the other singer? i just couldn't get into their albums with the other guy.

I picked up Maia Sharp's CD "Fine Upstanding Citizen" today based on a review in Out magazine, but I haven't listened to it yet. Has anyone else listened to this CD? What did you think? (Regrettably, Out's short review is no longer available online.)

Well, imagine as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor, and I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words:

"What beautiful wedding!" says a bridesmaid to a waiter.

And, "Yes, but what a shame - the poor groom's bride is a WHORE."

I chimed in with a "HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF CLOSING A GODDAM DOOR?! NO??!"

(It's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.)

Well, in fact, look at it this way, I mean, technically, our marriage is SAVED! Well, this calls for a toast! So pour the champagne!

Lyric to "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies," a new favorite from Panic! At the Disco -- A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

Sharp, crafty rock from mop-top Vegas kids. You heard it here first (but only because W1865 hasn't been around lately wink ).

Lil' Kim's new "The Naked Truth" and Madonna's "Confessions" are in heavy rotation. Lil' Kim's album is definitely worth the four mikes that they gave it in Vibe magazine. It is one of the best hip-hop albums out this year. She definitely stepped up her game.

Confessions rocks.
Um the other guy, not Belladonna. Yeah he is more of a yellar. I like the old stuff. I really like some of the new stuff since it is quite fast and industrial. They are actually driving a lot of noise and distortion. At the same time I think the newer stuff is really evolved and stripped down. Yeah there is also the usual goofy stuff. Just look at their hair on the older releases biggrin.gif
cool.. what other bands do u like? Suicidal tendencies, maiden, testament?

Have you heard the \"flipside\" of \"Look On The Floor\" which is \"Live In The Sun\".
No. Fabulous?

Give TaTu's latest a listen. There's some good Euro pop on that cd.
I've only heard a couple tracks, but I dig. Did you see the \"All about us\" video, though? Damn!

And I am also listening to a lot of J-pop princess Namie Amuro's songs. Her music is just mindless, melodic dance stuff reminiscent of Janet Jackson or J-Lo. Plus she's sexy as hell.
Again - I'll investigate. Thanks again for the tip! smile.gif

Chris Botti's new cd is amazing. Just bought it and listened to it 3 times straight.

Going back into a Foo Fighter phase

Everlong- Foo Fighters
Best Of You- FF
Baker Street- FF
Darling Nikki- FF
Everybody Wants You- Billy Squire
Oops I Did It Again- Children of Bodom
Another Brick In The Wall- Korn

Im just really into the covers lately, FF's Baker Street is just so different than the original wouldnt say better, I like em both, wasnt a big Prince fan but love FF's Darling Nikki, although Purple Rain is a great song, not a big Britney Spears fan, and Another Brick in The Wall another great cover, but it will always be Pink Floyd's song

My friend, that moved back to Montreal, is really into \"3\" of Blood\", Maiden too, Judas Priest of course, lots of Black Metal and lots of other stuff too. I think my brother still has Priest and Maiden on cassette.

ST is a given. DK is ingrained. COC is my grain. This butthole surfs. The joke kills. I feel the power of Lard. Welcome to Operation Mindcrime. Silver treads amongst my soul.
a friend of mine went to see 3" of blood in L.A last year.. i've heard about them for a bit, i guess i should check it out.

Queensryche uh? smile.gif that was my first concert ever.. opening for Metallica. The other bands you listed are good, the only one i didn't figure out was DK. smile.gif

sorry man, i've never really been into the dead kennedys.
My tastes are ever changing. I've loved everything from hair metal to hardore stuff.

Right now i'm really into euro metal.. they know what metal is supposed to be. smile.gif Helloween, Nightwish, After Forever, Epica, Kamelot, etc..

i'm also slowly discovering Québec music from all generations. I'm constantly being surprised. Liva is awesome.

And shame on me, I forgot to mention the glorious Kate Bush.

I hate to admitt this, but I got Britney Spears; The Remixes today. I have to say, its pretty good dance music.
The song she did with Madonna has a nice rock/ metal edge to it too.

I'm listening to this.
Gaga4Gaby
I'm loving the new Robbie Williams disc, Intensive Care. I will never understand why he's not more popular in the States ... I think he's great. He split with his long-time writing partner and this album has some different sounds to it, which I had to get used to; nothing outrageous, but more rock-inspired and more experimental with some of the vocals.

Fave songs are "Advertising Space" (FANTASTIC LYRICS!), "A Place to Crash," and "Spread Your Wings."

There's only one song I don't much care for and even it's better than alot of the crap music out today. (See: "Photograph," by Nickelback, one of the most bafflingly awful songs I've ever heard.)
rickinto
I am thoughly enjoying this CD as well Gaga.....his lyrics, on songs such as "Tripping" are dark, but the beat is very catchy.

Then we have songs such as "Your Gay Friend" which I find very funny, but again, there seems to be a dark cynical underlying theme...

"And, I'll be your gay friend
Cus your marriage never ends
Till we F(*k and Fight again
There's a space between us"

I do think it is different then Escapology though. As for why he is not more popular, in America, hmmm good question?
Gaga4Gaby
I haven't quite figured out what Robbie's talking about on "Your Gay Friend." He's having an affair with a woman, pretending to be her gay friend, and he hopes the husband doesn't find out?

I think Robbie is always purposely playful with the gay rumors and his sexuality, so maybe it's not supposed to be easily figured out ...

It is a good song, though!
Mariner Duck Guy
I'm also a Robbie Williams fan. I had to order his Greatest Hits as an import since they do not sell it as a domestic release. I haven't bought his latest cd yet but it's on my list to buy.

I also can't figure out why he's not big in America. But, it's probably the same reason Anastacia is not big here.
rickinto
I know....it seems to start off him talking about pretending to be a gay friend, to the woman and sleeping with her. Then in the end..it appears, he is singing, about himself having a Gay friend...

"I have a friend again
You are my friend again
My Gay friend"

He does like to keep people guessing about him though eh?

Sort of like Morrisey in the 80's.

PS MDB..who is Anastacia J/k

Spunky? Throb? Cum? Are you sure we're in the right forum here?

Found a CD in my collection that I totally forgot I had gotten (I'd never listened to it until today). The Rough Guide to Asha Bhosle, a woman who sang a ton of songs for Bollywood films from the 40s through the 90s. A lot more varied than I thought it would be, and an extremely entertaining listen.

They are american, but do not catch on in the states.. they are popular in Europe though, and their music sounds like it comes from over there.

The band is.. Kamelot.

Right now in my CD player, their album Karma.

Now that I know what song it is .... the Soul Seekerz remix of Bananrama's "Look on the Floor" has been in my head.

Another song that's pretty new to me that I'm likin is 22nd Avenue's "Am I Dreamin", which is Livin Joy's "Dreamer" with a twist ... they've also done another one called "Take Me Away", with Mariah Carey's vocals.

And it took some time to warm up to Deborah Cox - House Is Not A Home, but I'm startin to love it

(I know there's a Nina Simone thread somewhere--started when she passed away, I believe--but I can't find it. So...)

Mary J. Blige to star in Nina Simone biopic.

With the success of Ray and Walk the Line, I'm thrilled that they're making a film about the life of Nina Simone, a musical innovator and iconoclast. Love her! I don't know about Mary J. Blige's acting ability, but she will definitely be able to do her own singing for the film (I could imagine her doing a good version of "I put a spell on you"). The casting of Blige should also help open up Miss Nina's music to the younger crowd, who may already be familiar with the remixes (such as "Sinnerman," found on the Verve/Remixed series).

My latest can't-take-it-out-of-the-player disc is Liberty Square by Udora. Their CD doesn't have a distributor right now (they're not signed), but you can get it online at cdbaby and a few other spots. Nothing horribly innovative about it - just melodic rock - but done extremely well.

I like \"Beautiful Game\", but they're all quite good.

my best of 2005 CD's are getting the play now ... or as I call it, "the recycle bin"

14 of my top 50 club were some type of old song brought back to life, heck some old songs had 2 re-incarnations with their own entries

Cabin Crew - Star To Fall and Mylo - In My Arms (based on "Waiting For A Star To Fall")

Global Deejays - Flashdance and Digital Offspring - Believin ("Flashdance")

best recycle and best mashup go to the same song
Deep Dish - Flashing for money (their "Flashdance" in no way erelated to Irene Cara's vs. Dire Straits "Money For Nothin")

My Top 10 of 2005

10. Anna Vissi - Call Me
9. Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha
8. Global Deejays - Flashdance
7. Deborah Cooper - Live You All Over
6. Madonna - Hung Up
5. Eric Prydz - Call On Me
4. Gadjo - So Many Times
3. Deep Dish/Dire Straits - Flashing For Money
2. Michael Gray - The Weekend
1. Suzanne Palmer - Home

I'm compiling my most listend to songs for 2005. Thank goodness for ipods. It does the work for me! I must say that I was quite surprised when I sorted my Library by play count. The #'s 1-5 are separated by only a few listens. I have 5 more days and things can change but it looks like it's going to be a European and Japanese heavy Top 25. I just love this time of year. Yeah, I entertain myself too easily....uh...check that last statement.
