\"Shape of Things To Come\" - This is the retro song from the Target commercials. Max Frost & the Troopers

That was actually the theme song from the cult classic "Wild In The Streets",with Christopher Jones playing Max and a cast that included both Richard Pryor and Shelley Winters.
According to the website, the film was highly instrumental in getting the US voting age lowered to 18.Here's a link to the website including a clip from the song

I'm listening to Kelly Clarkson.

I just bought "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" by Panic! At The Disco. First listen was favorable, but I have to hear it some more and listen more closely.
John King
I bought another copy of Orishas "Emigrante", which I love. I have been playing the spit out of it since I repurchased it.

In between, I am grooving to Gorillaz' "Demon Days". I like the story about the people in the monkey's brain. How cool is that?

James Blunt's CD, "Back to Bedlam". He's also pretty hot too.
HulaBoy
James Blunt's Back to Bedlam.

It's #1 and #4 in Europe right now. #1 is live in concert with the bonus DVD, #4 the regular CD.

I never hear them playing "You're Beautiful" on radio stations in the U.S. even though it's such a huge worldwide hit -- is it because the lyrics include the "f" word, and there's a law against that on the U.S. airwaves?
Kona Guy
"Clap Your Hands Say Yeah"- Great self titled CD and Chemical Brothers "Push the Button". Am I the only gay man that listens to alternative/indie rock???

But they are playing his songs here.
"You're Beautiful" was the #1 single in the country.
The "f" word in the song was replaced by "flying"..high.

I picked up the new Prince LP, 3121. It's pretty delicious so far (I'm only on listen 2). Lots of strangeness, lots of pop - there's even sex! And the first single, "Te amo corazon" has really grown on me. On first listen it seemed pleasant, but dull and mildly forgettable. But within the context of the album it's a warm and delicate surprise. The musical equivalent of ganache!

Not in my cd player right now but...

I just got tickets for the Kenny Chesney/Big & Rich/Dierks Bentley/Gretchen Wilson/Blaine Larson concert! Woo Hoo! I haven't got the tix yet, but they are somewhere in row 5-15 on the floor or 1 -5 on the side. I am psyched! I got them via the Dierks Bentley fan club. Now if I can win some Meet & Greet tickets, I'll be in hog heaven.

Listening to:

Living In Fast Forward - Kenney Chesney
Analogue- A-Ha
4ever & Everything I'm Not - The Veronicas
Thunder In My Heart Again - Meck (feat. Leo Sayer)
Waiting - Taxi Doll
Rapture Riders - GHP (Blondie vs. The Doors)
Don't Step on My Groove - Bananarama
Munich - Editors
That's The Way My Heart Goes - Marie Serenholt (solo project by A-Teen singer)
I Walk The Line - Live (Thanks to Chris Daughtry)

Unleash Me (Sample) - Nikki McKibben
Fade to Grey - JPL
'Til My Baby Comes Home - Fantasia

"Obsession" - Kylie Minogue, Body Language

"Don't be shy" - Cat Stevens, Footsteps in the Dark: Greatest Hits, Volume Two

"Gold lion," "Phenomena" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Show Your Bones
Maddog
Okay this will probably sound a bit strange but I've been going through old CD's and came across Little River Band's Greatest Hits.

I'm really enjoying it.

If you listen for country you can hear country, but there is also rock and soul in there. The songs are okay but the vocals are really amazing.

Sorry I took you for granted LRB!

It is an awesome album. Drive that Fast was my favorite song on it.

Lately I've been playing quite a few CDs I bought in college; not sure why...

It's never too early to become a nostalgiac old fool! wink

For what i's worth, I'd still say The Death of Cool is my favorite start-to-finish Kitchens LP. If only because it has "Mad as snow" on it (which still makes me weep uncontrollably).

After watching the trailer for the upcoming Marie Antoinette movie and the credits of last week's episode of the Sopranos, two songs keep popping up on my iPod:

My mp3 player recently bit the dust, and I was never entirely happy with the loading and organizing of songs on it. So I decided to try something different. I bought a CD-player that plays mp3s for about $50. I can get about 150-200 songs on each disc, so I've been making a CD for each year. I've been listening to the 1981 disc I made a little too much. Some highlights:

Yarbrough & Peoples - "Don't Stop the Music"
Dire Straits - "Skateaway"
Marty Balin - "Hearts"
Prince - "Controversy"
Chilliwack - "My Girl (Gone Gone Gone)"
Champaign - "How 'bout Us"
Greg Kihn Band - "Break Up Song"
Pat Benatar - "Promises in the Dark"
Gap Band - "Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)"
Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty - "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"

I have just discovered The Magic Numbers and "Forever Lost." I love it more than I have loved a new song in a long, long, long, long time.

I hope the cd is as good as that one song!

It's a lovely record, G4G. Worth getting!

And if there's any Pet Shop Boys fans 'round here who haven't heard the new single, "I'm with stupid" (which, uh, may or may not be about Tony Blair and George W. Bush, ho ho), just go to their website and have a listen.

To be honest, I thought it was both a little overly bombastic and yet strangely weak at first. Trevor Horn's unmistakable production seemed more like a litter of air quotes and knowing winks than I'd like. But man, oh, man has it grown on me.
Mariner Duck Guy
Well, Jim, as you know, I am also a huge PSB fan. I do like "I'm With Stupid". Neal's voice always brings me to a different place. Past, present & future. Love them.

I can't wait for "Fundamentalism". I am curious to hear "Sodom" and "Gomorrah".

When I first heard Tim McGraw's new single of Ryan Adam's "When The Stars Go Blue" I thought how many more artist are going to record this song? We got Tim's, Ryan's, the Corrs w/Bono's, Tyler Hilton's and finally, Venke Knutson w/Kurt Nilsen's version.

There's not one particular song that I'm listening to at the moment. I'm kind of in a mish-mash mood. I'm mainly listening to Country, but I also have some Rock, Japanese Pop, Hawaiian, Dance and Mash-ups on my playlist.

Thanks for the reassurance! It was all the arm-twisting I needed to run out and buy the cd. I've only gotten through the first half or so, but every song is great. I can't finish the entire cd because I spend too much time repeating "Forever Lost," but I also really like "Mornings Eleven," "Love Me Like You," and "Which Way To Happy" so far.

And John King mentioned Pitbull. I bought MIAMI a while back just for "Culo." I love that song!

Oh. And I encourage everyone to mark April 18th on their calendars and then run out and buy Under the Covers, Volume 1 , a collection of 60s gems by the team of Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs (of the Bangles).

I know personally I am so eagerly awaiting news that Scissors Sisters is going to be putting out another cd. Its been 2 years now guys!!! Every time I check their website, they are going on tour somewhere or doing something, everything but being in the studio...hurry up already Sisters!!! frown
Lexington
I got a copy of the Under the Covers CD - it's fantastic! Both Matthew and Susannah obviously really love this stuff, and I'm extremely happy nobody felt the need to "modernize" these 60s songs with hip-hop beats, special guest stars, or by cranking up the pressing 'til it clips. I'll have to spend some time with it, but I'm already seeing spending a lot of time in the player.

Well, at least you can comfort yourself with Kylie's "I believe in you" (co-written and produced by Jake Shears and Babydaddy - who, by the way, WOOF, he can be my baby' daddy any time he'd like). If that's any indication of where the SS (ooh - now there's and unfortunate abbreviation, remind me never to use that one again) could possibly take their sound, then it'll all be VERY much worth the wait.

Oh, and there's also Jake's vocal turn on Tiga's "You gonna want me," which is another kickass track.

Goldfrapp-"Supernature". I was reading a stellar review of this British electronica duo in my gay newspaper and just picked it up. If you like Veronica Electronica, and I do!!!, and danceable synth pop, this cd is for you. One listen and I am very impressed. Got some really strong standouts on it. Some really cool remakes here too. Check it out.

I've suddenly rediscovered the 90's rock/alternative band Tonic. I downloaded all 3 albums onto my iPod and have been unable to get them out of my head. I was really surprised to discover how sweet and romantic they can be - despite "If You Could Only See," after "You Wanted More" I thought they'd remain the poster child for bitterness. Don't get me wrong, they cover that well, which is probably what I identify with the most. =)
Lexington
Bailey, I've got "Open Up Your Eyes" in my player, and give it plenty of play. Something about that song really appeals to me.

They were in town one night while I was on air doing an 80s show, and they called up from their hotel room to request (of all things) Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone". I played it for them a bit later, and they called back to say they were jumping up and down on their beds singing along. Now every time I hear "If You Could Only See", I don't think bitterness - I just think of them jumping up and down on their hotel beds.

"Twilight Zone" was one of the first popular songs that I liked when I first started listening to it.
Bailey
Lexington, that is awesome. I'll think of them jumping up and down on their beds now. I love that.

Have you ever seen the video for "Open Up Your Eyes"? There are two, actually; I love the one where they're on roller skates the whole time. I'll add the bed-jumping to the roller skating on my list of why this band would be totally fun to hang out with. (If you haven't seen the video, go to YouTube.com and type in Tonic. The video is posted there.)

Since the Gay Games will be in Chicago in a mere few weeks, I came across this at Rainbow Road.
