I'm listening to lots of stuff on my mp3 player (should this thread be renamed to include "mp3 player" or "iPod" on the title? biggrin.gif ), but right now I'm listening to a compilation for a friend of mine inspired by his tastes (and by ex-Moloko singer Roísín Murphy): the first nine represent his love of disco and '80s r&b and dance, and the other eight are songs from the late '90s and '00s influenced by the first nine.

1. Tearin' It Up (Larry Levan Mix), Chaka Khan
2. The Glow of Love, Change
3. Yes Sir I Can Boogie, Baccara
4. Seventh Heaven (Larry Levan 12" Mix), Gwen Guthrie
5. I Wanna Be Your Lover, La Bionda
6. Sure Shot, Tracy Weber
7. Passion, The Flirts
8. Fascinated, Company B
9. No One Gets the Prize (Danny Krivit Edit), Diana Ross

10. Familiar Feeling, Moloko
11. Funkin' for Jamaica, Towa Tei featuring Les Nubians
12. Yes Sir I Can Boogie, Goldfrapp
13. Here Comes the Sun (François Kevorkian Mix), Nina Simone
14. The Messenger, A New Funky Generation
15. Automatic Love (Acoustic Version), Kylie Minogue
16. Last Century Modern, Towa Tei
17. Forever More (François Kevorkian Vocal Mix), Moloko

I am jammin to Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" Its such a hot club song and its great in the morning when I'm running on the treadmill.

Dierks Bentley's Greatest Hits cd because I'm listed as an "Executive Producer". Me and 3000 other die hard Dierks fans smile.gif I'm also meeting him for the second time next Wednesday, unfortunately it's not for a private rendezvous.

I'm also listening to Kurt Nilsen's Country cd "Rise to the Occassion".

While I was driving to Palm Springs last week, XM Highway 16 kept playing The Road Hammers' "I Don't Know When To Quit" so now I'm addicted to the song because, well, I don't know when to quit!

Jon Peter Lewis' "Break The Silence" is still hovering near the top of my playlist as well as a couple of tracks off Lady M's "Hard Candy".

Others:

"American Boy (Soulseekers Remix)" - Estelle feat. Kanye West
"Like Me" - Girlicious feat. Jazz Pha
"Life In A Northern Town" - Sugarland feat. Little Big Town & Jake Owen

and finally,

"Daydreamin'" Lupe Fiasco feat. Jill Scott because of that damn ATT Wireless Samsung commercial.

Is your name actually listed on it? If so how did this occur?

Yes, my name is listed in the booklet. I tried putting it in as Ducky, but i ended up using my real name. So go out & buy the cd! How cool is that. You know what I am getting autographed next week!

This is how it happened. Dierks fan a promo where the first 3000 fans who pre-ordered his Greatest hits cd got to pick the name of the cd, the cover art, and the 5 bonus live tracks on the cd and we also got to be listed as Executive Producer in the cd jacket. I guess it is a private rendezvous...but only if you think 400 people is private!

I'm telling you, he is one the nicest guys and he treats his fans very well. This mini tour is a detour off his main tour "Throttle Wide Open" . Usually every year he holds a Last Call Ball during the country music festival in Nashville. This year, in conjunction with his Greatest Hits cd, he is doing several Last Call Ball's around the country (he began in Philly last week) and is also tying it in with radio promotions. Dierks will normally spend quality time with Fan Club members only. He'll come in & sit down with us, answer any questions we may have, take a photo and sign anything we bring. In previous Last Call Ball's, after his mini concert, he stayed and signed an autograph for anyone who wanted an autograph which was about 400 people. He may not have the best voice in Country music, but the way he treats his fans has won my respect and has made me a loyal fan!

Oh my God, me too! Except I've been listening to I Monster's "Daydream in Blue."

The same thing happened to me with Joss Stone's "L-O-V-E," which I thought was Jennifer Hudson when I first heard it.

I read about his appearance here in the paper a few hours after it actually took place.

Crimewave by Crystal Castles.

They're from Toronto & they remind me of Telepopmusik. If you're interested in more of CC here's the rest of their music.

I recently got turned on to Outputmessage (aka Bernard Farley). His music is pretty cool. The song Crane Remix is my least favoriate, but the others I really like.

Donna Summer is back with her new cd "Crayons". I really enjoy "Stamp Your Feet" and "The Queen Is Back".

New song from Cyndi Lauper called "Into the Night" and taken from her new cd "Bring Ya to the Brink" which is set to drop on Tuesday.

The song should be big on the dance floor.

Great new song from Ne-yo called "Closer"....perfect club hit and a great song I can add to my workout mix. The song reminds me of Timberlake's "Sexyback" and could easily have been a JT song. Video is hot!!!

Ne-Yo: Closer

Maddog
Not bad but to me Closer will always be a Travis song. I wonder if there's a dance remix of the Travis version out there yet.

I am loving "Outta My Head" by. Ashlee Simpson. It reminds me of Jem and the Holograms because the beat is from a Misfits song. God, it brings back memories of watching the cartoon every afternoon at 2:30.

I have been listening to a lot of renaissance vocal stuff, late 70s/early 80s power pop, and DFA-type 2000s electronic. The new Sloan album is great, so far the only full-length that really sticks out for me this year.

At this moment, the original Australian issue of the Avalanches' Since I Left You is in my CD player. I've had this in FLAC for a long time but it's nice to get the actual CD (it just came in the mail today).

I have been playing "I Decided" by. Solange, Beyonce's little sister, every day. I love this song. It has an oldskool vibe to it, and it was produced by the Neptunes. Here is a link to the video:

As usual, it's all over the board!

The main bulk of my Playlist is music used from this season of "So You Think You Can Dance".

Anouk: "Lost"
Robyn: "Cobrastyle"
Flo Rida: Elevator (ft. Timbaland)
Charlotte Martin: The Dance
Jem : "24"
Estelle: "American Boy"
Holly Valance: "Kiss Kiss"
Celia Cruz: "Oye Como Va [Latin/Trance Mix]"
Heart: "Alone"
Craig Lyons: "Goodbye You"
The Veronicas : "Untouched"
Hot Chip : "Wrestlers (Sticky Dirty Pop Mix) "
Adele: "Hometown Glory (Radio Edit)"
Gotan Project: "Mi Confesión (Feat. Koxmoz)"

Edit to add: "Baila Baila" - Angela Via

"Just Dance" - Lady GaGa
On the dance front, I'm still loving:
Estelle's "American Boy (Soulseekerz Remix)"
Jackie O's version of "Before He Cheats (Almighty Mix)"
Cyndi Lauper's "Into The Nightlife (Soulseekerz Club Mix)
and the brief snippet of John Barrowman's "You're So Vain (HDC vs. Al B Rich Club Mix)". I just wish there was a full blown version.

Finally, My J-pop princess, Namie Amuro, has a new single to follow up the fabulous triple a-side 60's/70's/80's single. "Sexy Girl" and my favorite, "Do Me More", is really rockin' my bod.

It depends on how much of an ABBA fan you are. "ABBA Gold" is the most frequently purchased ABBA greatest hits cd and should be sufficient if you just want the big hits. If you want a more comprehensive cd, then you might want the "ABBA Definitive Collection" 2-disc set. Although neither includes one of my favorite ABBA songs, "Kisses of Fire". Many years ago, I purchased an imported Box set which basically had everything and then I just bought a song or two here or there to complete my Abba collection.

How many people out there knew that Jessica Simpson has ventured into country music? I was never a big fan of hers and the thought of her even attempting country made me cringe. But so-help-me, she's got a good song with a great hook that debuted at #41 on the country singles chart a few weeks ago. It's in the top 30 now. Saw an article where radio programmers wanted to hate it just because it was her, then honestly liked it once they got a listen. If you don't like country, you won't like this anyway, but if you DO like her somewhat or are even curious, check it out...

The latest Duckpod update:

If you enjoy Euro Pop/Dance, then you absolutely must get your hands on Kate Ryan's latest cd "Free". Every one of the songs could be a hit on the pop or dance charts. "Free" includes her hits "Voyage/Voyage", "We All Belong", "L.I.L.Y.", "Ella Elle L'a", "Tonight We Ride" and her latest, "I Surrender". Seriously, if you enjoy acts like Kylie, September and other female European pop/dance, then you will love this cd. Ever since "The Promise" a couple years back, I have been in love with Kate Ryan.

I Surrender

Also battling with "I Surrender" for the most played song on the Duckpod is Emilia De Poret's "Pick Me Up". I guess Emilia is an actress in Sweden, but this song is hot and is/was #1 on the charts in Sweden. The beat sounds like a total ripoff of Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right", but I love this song.

"Pick Me Up"

Other than those two songs, it's the usual mish-mash on my Now! playlist.

"Breakin' Dishes" & "Disturbia" & A Good Girl Like You Gone Bad (The Rihanna Megamix)- Rihanna
"Cobrastyle" & "Bum Like You" - Robyn
"One, Two, Three, Go!" - Belanova
"Coming To Terms" - Carolina Liar
"Best Days" - John Colton
"Hypnotized" - Big Gemini feat. Flo Rida
"Victims of Love" - Good Charlotte
"The Garden" - Mirah
"Untouched"/"Hollywood" - The Vernoicas

And I also purchased former American Idol Jon Peter Lewis' cd "Break The Silence" and it is very good. The first single "Break the Silence" really needs to be played on the radio because it is such an awesome, melodic song. There are also many other "singles" that can be pulled from this cd. It's just too bad that it will never sell a lot of copies. To me, he is the all time shock for a former AmIdol contestant because I would have never thought in a million years, while he was on the show, that I would be raving about his cd. It was a couple of songs from his first cd that made me take a listen to "Break The Silence" (which prompted me to pre-order it and get my name in the liner notes smile.gif).

Happy listening.

I was checking out the Swedish & Norwegian pop charts and saw an artist named Gabriella Cilmi charting with a song called "Sweet About Me". She's only 16 years old but has a very mature sound. If you like Amy Winehouse, Duffy or even Anastacia, you will probably like Gabriella.

Her cd is called "Lessons To Be Learned" and has many excellent tracks. Check out the video for "Sweet About Me"

This is on my "Now" playlist for those interested. As usual. it's here, there and everywhere.

"Look" - Sebastien Tellier (the song that was used in "Ugly Betty" last week when Willie asks Betty to sit with her on the roof top after the party. I actually like a couple of songs off the cd "Sexuality".

"Crush On You" - Lulu Lewe. She's Sarah Connor's little sister. Don't know much about her, but I love thata the song sample's Giorgio Moroder's disco classic "The Chase" That's the only reason I like this song.

"What About Us" - John Barrowman. Out. Actor/Singer/Entertainer. This song is so damn catchy. It's written by Take That's Gary Barlow. The video features a gay couple.

"The Loving Kind" - Girls Aloud. This is their latest song and it is written by the Pet Shop Boys. Girls Aloud should be a group you would think I would love, but I just don't think they are that great. Only a song here or there.

"The Winner Takes It All" - Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue. "Nuff Said.

"Funky Goes To Hollywood" - What happens when Frankie plays that funky music? You get this awesome mash-up.

"Free Free" and "Can't Stop The Disco" - Ami Suzuki. I don't know why. Hated her at first. Then she re-imaged herself, got signed to Avex, and now is a dance artist.

"Black Diamond" - Namie Amuro & Double. I totally forgot about this song, which came out in the summer. Basically it sounds like a Lady Gaga song, only sung in Japanese and by Namie.

Speaking of which: "Boys Boys Boys" - Lady Gaga. Because because because.

"Discotheque" : Elin Lanto's latest. That's 3 cool songs in a row for Elin.

"Reach Out" - Hilary Duff. Because "Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" is one of my favorite songs.

"Don't Want To Go To Bed Now" - Gabriella Cilmi. She's 17 now, but still sounds nothing like a teenager. Her cd "Lessons To Be Learned" is wonderful. Check it out if you can.

"Lay Your Love On Me". BWO. The campiest song of the year from the gayest, campiest group of the year. Of course they are from Sweden. BWO = Bodies Without Organs.

"Free" - Kate Ryan. From the cd of the same name. You would think she's from Sweden, but she's not. She's Belgian. Might be my co-favorite cd of the year.

And what's a Ducky ipod without Dierks. "Feel That Fire" - Dierks Bentley. I'm stoked because I got VIP tix to catch Dierks and Brad Paisley in concert next year in Washington.

And let's call this part the talent show winners time:

"Don't Call This Love" - Leon Jackson. He won X-Factor 4. It's basically England's version of Michael Buble. It took a couple of listens, but I like the cd. The first single is the title track. "When You Believe" was the perfect song to listen to as I watched President-elect Obama give his victory speech!

"Now That I'm Kneeling" - JPL. Another fabulous track from Jon Peter Lewis' "Break the Silence" cd. My other co-favorite cd of the year.

"Release Me" - Agnes. Swedish idol's latest cd. You can't beat the Swedes for pure pop.

"Changes" Will Young. Beautiful Song. I really like his latest cd called "Let It Go". It's very George Michael-ish.

"Nowe Szanse" - Sylwia Grzeszczak. Polish artist. I was looking for a song by Polish Idol Monika Brodka called "Niagra Falls" and came across Sylwia.

"Cheater Cheater" - Joey & Rory. I fell in love with them on "Can You Duet". They now star in the overstock.com commercials. Their debut cd "The Life Of A Song" is simple, pure and old school Country. Joey's voice is heavenly and she can bring a tear to any man's eye. Love it.

That's my list for this month.
