OK, I went to Best Buy to purchase Cyndi Lauper's "At Last" cd & they were Sold Out. The Best Buy Help Boy said people have been asking for this cd and they underestimated it's popularity. It's also #6 on Amazon's top sellers. I just hope this record sells well for her. She deserves to have a best selling cd...she's just so damn talented.

I'm happy to hear that. She certainly has been doing a lot of publicity for the CD. I'm not a huge Cyndi Lauper fan (or Rod Stewart), but ever since 1983, when Linda Ronstadt released "What's New," her first album of standards, I love it when this type of music sells well and gets the attention it deserves.

Remy Zero is good, aren't they? Save Me is my anthem. I saw them open for Travis and they were fantastic; Travis came out and the combined bands did Bowie's Heroes, dedicated to the NYFD and NYPD for 9/11. Not a dry eye in the house.
Astral Projection's new one, great Goa trance.
Beethoven piano sonata's played by Claudio Arrau. Sublime.
Tons of live Phish.
Strawbs, an early 70's prog-folk band; great songs

I have purchased the new Mona Lisa Smile soundtrack...It is a great soundtrack with 40s and 50s songs (jazzy) that have been redone by modern singers...It is great! Seal, Tori Amos, Celine Dion, Elton John, Macy Gray, Chris Isaak, Mandy Moore, Alison Krauss, Kelly Rowland, Lisa Stansfield, Barbara Streisand, and Rachel Portman, along with The Trevor Horn Orchestra. Go get this CD, it is really good, I don't even care for this type of music, but it has been on continuous rotation in my stereo since Saturday. The movie is going to be really good as far as I can tell, Tori Amos plays the Wedding Singer. Julia Roberts is a professor at Wellsley. Google it and see what you find! Mona Lisa Smile

Travis. I never really paid attention to them, but since they were mentioned on this board, I took another listen and I do enjoy their music. I think I like "The Invisible Band" cd the best. Not really my cup of tea, but rather enjoyable.
What I am really stoked about it the new Pet Shop Boys DVD. PSB is probably one of my all time favorite duo. Their new greatest hits cd is called "Pop Art" and has 35 songs + a bonus disc of remixes (at least on the import version). I have all of their singles except for the two new tracks "Miracles" and "Flamboyant" so I may skip the cd. The DVD of "Pop Art", however is something I have been waiting for for a LONG time. The European version contains 41! of their videos on a 2 disc set. Hopefully, the US version keeps the same 41 songs. I have seen many of their earlier vid's because they were included on the Discography VHS, but I have not seen most of their later videos. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about this DVD being released!

Local staion 106.9 started playing Xmas music all day. I am sad to report that the Duckboy has succumbed to listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I confess.
I didn't stopped there. I dragged out my Christmas cd's and tapes and have been playing them in my car. Bad Duckboy, bad.
In Disc location #4, I am playing Cyndi Lauper's "Merry Christmas...Have A Nice Life!" which is an awesome cd. Her "Christmas Conga" song is totally addicting. Bonga Bonga Bonga, Do the Christmas Conga.
I am sooo bad. I have resorted to torturing my co-worker by calling her voicemail early in the morning & leaving a message, in my best radio voice, for the Duckboy Top 30 Christmas Songs. I started yesterday, and today is song #29... "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" by Johnny Mathis. I would then play a snippet of the song. It's so worth it to hear her come in the morning and listen to her voicemails and then hear "Aaaaaaaaargh...you are an evil, evil man!!"

Just picked up Ryan Adams' "Rock'n'Roll" last week. Strictly for fans of straight-ahead, guitar-driven rock (G_vf, this means you wink ). Kinda U2-ey, kinda Pete Yorn-ey. No big messages songs here, just sex, drugs and, ummm, rock'n'roll.
The Strokes' "Room On Fire" is just plain terrible. There's nothing here that they didn't do already (and better) on "Is This It?" Anybody wanna buy a slightly-used metal coaster?
The White Stripes catalogue. No single great album in the lot, but some real good bluesy riffin' and squeelin' going on. Saw them live two weeks ago. Ass-kickin' show! Jack is a fantastic guitar player, often playing both rhythm and lead parts simultaneously, while singing (!). And Li'l Meg can really whack them skins. Fun, fun, fun.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Fever to Tell" is a pretty good retro-wave garage album, but not nearly as good as Hot Hot Heat's "Makeup the Breakdown."
I'd almost given up on him after "Human Beings," but Seal's "IV" is a much better album. Heartfelt, uplifting songs, great production, much more soulful than in the past. Good comeback.
And, for those quieter moments, Elvis Costello's "North." He's penned some pretty jazz ballads for Diana K., recorded them with just a piano accompaniment or small combo, and toned down the harshness in his voice. Very different, but still very Elvis. Real nice.
David Bowie's "Reality" is still making the rotation. Love this album. Can't wait for the show on Dec. 13th. (Yes, J.A., I hear you tapping... wink )
Other up-coming concerts: The Buzzcocks (!!) and Hot Hot Heat. Sweet.
Has anybody heard the late Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros' new album? I hear it's excellent, but haven't picked it up yet. Should I?

Now that it's December no one CD dominates my scape. Every year since 2000, I have made a Best of ____ CD set (in response to my friends bitching about not being able to find/get the cool stuff we hear when we go out) as a Christmas gift. So I pretty much rotate most of the songs I've collected over the year to come up. It's a nice way to reminisce on the year, as each of the songs I have some memory of (the first time I heard it, reminding me of people, places and the like).

TOonka, I love the Cyndi CD. She really pours her emotions into her singing. I like all the tracks, but I think my favorite is "If You Go Away", "At Last" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". "Stay and "On The SUnny Side of the Street" are the up-tempo tunes. Sunnyside has a SKA type of beat. A lot of the songs are stripped bare with minimal orchestration and a piano. It's a nice cd for a rainy Northwest evening.
Marinerfan, I bought an Operatica "O" cd because I really loved the song "Melancholy Rose". I heard the song on the first season of Queer As Folk and I searched everywhere for the artist and cd. I saw their Xmas cd and wondered what it sounded like...maybe I'll give it a listen.

Outkast's double CD "Speakerboxxx/Love Below" is absolutely AMAZING. Trust me, we will still be talking about this 20 years from now. It will be a classic.
I bought the new Alicia Keys "Diary of Alicia Keys" a couple of weeks ago. I am very impressed with her second effort. She definitely has avoided the dreaded "Sophomore Jinx".
