New adds:
White Stripes – Elephant
White Stripes – De Stijl (which sounds to me like the lost tapes from Zeppelin I/II)
Hot Hot Heat – Make Up the Breakdown
And making their annual appearances in the rotation:
Gang of Four – Entertainment!
Buzzcocks – Singles Going Steady
Jeff Buckley – Grace
puckman: Brit Sarah Brightman is the ex-Mrs. Andrew Lloyd Webber and got her start starring in his horrible stage musicals. That's all I know.

I've been a big Heart fan since high school; Ann and Nancy kept me straight for quite a while

. Going to see them live in a few weeks! They can still rock it.
Listening to:
Fleetwood Mac - Say You Will
Madonna - American Life
Lucinda Williams - World Without Tears
Jack Johnson - On And On
White Stripes - Elephant
Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight
Turin Brakes - Ether Song
All great; good year in music so far to me.

Right now I'm listening to Dashboard Confessional's "MTV unplugged" CD, the "So Impossible" EP and "The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most" (I'm a little obsessed). In the car I have Christina Aguilera's "Stripped" and The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "By The Way". And I have Sarah Harmer's "You Were Here" in my discman. I put it on when I wanna relax. I bought that cd when it came out in 1999 and I honestly haven't taken it out of a cd player since. It's poppy/folky/rocky/jazzy, the lyrics are great, and I've met her on the street and she's really nice. And she's Canadian, so thats a bonus

Great CD! Played it for a long time when it came out. Saw her with Weeping Tile when they opened for Blue Rodeo quite a while ago. It should have been more successful here in the US.

I've been listening to a lot of lieder by Hugo Wolf lately. As I type, Brigitte Fassbender is wobbling her way through the
Morike Lieder with openly gay pianist
Jean-Yves Thibaudet tickling the ivories. Not a disc for the ages, frankly.
Also in rotation is the new recording of Schreker's opera
Flammen. A very good opera in an excellent performance. I'm waiting anxiously for the recording of his
Das Spielwerk und die Prinzessin to arrive in the mail.
Also, a bunch of mp3's I downloaded, things like Supertramp, Blink 182, Be Bop Deluxe and so on. I burned the new Radiohead, but it's just one of about 300 or so albums that I've downloaded and burned in the last 6 months, so it'll have to wait.
I love this thread.

anytime I hear mention of Mary's Danish, I instantly feel a kinship with the one making mention.
The best description I ever heard of the sound Gretchen and Julie made together likens them to a two=headed Exene Cervenka. (anybody know whatever happened to them?)
Otherwise, I'm listening to Megan Mullally's "big as berry", Grandaddy's "sumday", Annie Lennox's "bare", as well as Linda Rhonstadt's "greatest hits". Also worth mentioning is Maria Mckee's "high dive".
I know I have to get: White Stripes "elephant", the new Throwing Muses record, and Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits.

I also have Fleetwood Mac's "Say You Will" in the cd player -- there are a bunch of great songs on it -- Lindsey Buckingham proves once again that he is a Guitar God! Stevie is at her best -- she contributes some of her finest songs ever, notably "Thrown Down", but my new fave is "Running Through the Garden" -- an intense rocker -- when she sings that "I never meant to imprison you in my garden" -- you know she's lying!
But, having met Ms. Gator Jamie, my fellow tuba player, at Pride, I had to pull out some of my favorite works featuring my favorite instrument (pity my poor partner!). Again there's Fleetwood Mac: "Tusk" -- with the USC marching tuba section.
Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Tuba Concerto" (I think it's the only one in the classic repetoire) -- and the legendary recording of Frederick Fennel conducting the Eastman Wind Ensemble: more Vaughn Williams (Folk Song Suite) and Gustav Holst (Suites #1 and #2) (yes, he did compose something other than "The Planets").
on a side note we're just back from Wisconsin, where, instead of cds, "when in Rome" I have to listen to WTKM in Hartford -- one of the nation's few polka stations (again, pity my poor partner). All polka, all the time! (well, except for recipe exchange and farm reports at noon ...)

Actually, I've not been listening to CD's much lately as I realized that I was kind of behind in my classical listening. So, I've been listening to the local classical station, KUSC, despite it being connected with that Vortex of Evil known as USC. Last night they played Prokofiev's
Cantata For The 20th Anniversery of The October Revolution, which includes a spoken-word section praising *shudder* Stalin *shudder* and despite the title and subject matter, it was a total knockout. It's why I'm listening to the radio again, to run in to stuff I'd never hear otherwise.

I was able to find at Tower Records yesterday an import from Holland of Kylie Minogue's last CD before "Fever" called "Light Years". It has some really terrific songs on it "Spinning Around", "Butterfly", and "Your Disco Needs You". The title track sounds like "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer and is a great song. Another song is her duet with Robbie Williams on the song "Kids". I highly recommend the CD if you can get it. She is like Janet and Madonna. Not gonna overwhelm you with her singing but they make infectious, terrific, pop/dance songs.
Other CD's in my changer lately:
1-Escapology Robbie Williams
2-Biography Lisa Stansfield
3-American Life Madonna

Aaron, "Light Years" is light years ahead of "Fever". I bought "Light Years" a few years back when it first came out after hearing the cd playing in a store in Edmonton, of all places!. The concert dvd is also pretty good. Your Disco Needs You should have been a classic! "Butterfly" was carried over to the Fever cd.

JR, I was going to ask if I could cut in, but if I were lucky enough to be twirling around with Chris Isaak and somebody tapped my shoulder, I would just ignore them. So enjoy your dance. You're right, though, "Speak of the Devil" is another really good CD. I have quite a few of his, but on most of the other ones I find a couple of songs I like and pretty much skip past the rest. At one point I know I had all his CDs, but when I broke up with my ex he took at least two ("Forever Blue" was one, can't remember the other(s)), and I never replaced them. I still tear up a little when I hear Except the New Girl on "SF Days", that part about "I have a feeling they're still together by the look that was in his eyes" always gets me.

A little off-topic, but did anyone see Lisa Marie Presley on "The Today Show" this morning? I felt bad for her. She was performing "Lights Out" and started to go down a few steps to get closer to the audience. The steps must have been slippery because she took a pretty hard fall and landed flat on the ground. She got up and recovered pretty quickly, though.

I thought it was about the street in London. My thoughts about Baker Street were not positive since they were doing all of that construction last year. The tube closed down at the main station right there. I still saw Madame Tussauds, but was very tired by the time I finally made it there thanks to the construction on "Baker Street".
