Between Now and Forever by Bryan White. I guess I am on a sentimental binge right now. I had such a huge crush on him when I was in college -- and the song "I'm Not Supposed to Love You Anymore" was so appropriate at the time for a totally different reason. You only have to see
the video for "I'm Not Supposed to Love You Anymore" on Launch.com to see why I had a crush on Bryan.

Adorable.

What about the Scandalous??? It is a huge hit on the dance station up here in Seattle. It took a couple of listens for me to get totally hooked, I have it in the car today.

I like Scandalous. There is a re-mix of it that's a better club version. The CD itself is a whole lot of pop...just different variations of Scandalous. I easily like at least 5 songs of the 13.

Deep Rivers, nice cd!
But here are some cuts you MUST get.
First up is "Just Wanna Dance" which is the new one by Toy...aka LaToya Jackson. Yes, THAT LaToya. Her new song is a total club hit. Apparantly, she tricked DJ's into playing it by sending it to clubs/stations under her nickname "Toy" and sold it as a European Hit. The song is fun with Chris Cox doing the remix. The song is about Toy going to the club and dancing the night away, not knowing if she's going home with a girl or man and shaking her ass so everyone is watching her. It's currently in the Top 15 on the Billboard dance charts.
Here are other songs on my Club MDB cd:
These are freakin' fabulous REMIXED songs that will make you want to crank up the volume on the stereo.
- Easy As Life - Deborah Cox
- The Promise - Tony Moran (the old When In Rome song)
- How Would U Feel - David Morales (this one is beautiful)
- I Like It - Narcotic Thrust
- Popular - Darren Hayes (of Savage Garden)
- Believe In We - Tracy Young feat. Ceevox
These remixes are also fun:
- Sick & Tired (Jason Nevins Mix) – Anastasia
- When You Walk In The Room (Almighty remix) – Agnetha Faltskog (of ABBA!)
- California Dreaming - Royal Gigolos
- Love Is Gonna Save Us - Benny Banassi
- Opa Opa - Despina Vandi
- Hole In The Head -Sugarbabes
- Eisai - Anna Vissi (the song that she sang at The Closing ceremonies)
- Chocolate (Silencio Remix) – Kylie Minogue
- Put 'Em High - Stonebridge
- Dragonstea Din Tei – O-Zone
- Dive (Chris Cox Anthem Mix) - Debby Holiday
I made my own mix of a combination of these songs for a party that I attended on Saturday and came away with multiple requests for the cd. Very fun!
Keep on dancin'

Wow, one of my favorite J-Pop singers, Utada Hikaru, has a hot song climbing the Billboard Club charts (and other dance charts as well). The song is "Devil Inside" with remixes by R.H. Vission and Scumfrog.
Her English debut cd is going to be called "Exodus" and is set to be released on October 5th on Island Records. She's going by her first name only she will be marketed as Utada.
Ch-ch-ch-check it out!

I bought the Finn Brothers' "Everyone is Here" last week and haven't been able to stop listening to it. Terrific stuff. Neil is truly one of pop's finest songwriters -- "Won't Give In" and "Luckiest Man Alive" are right up there with his best.

OOH! A new Finn brother's CD! I had no idea...I've been wearing out "Try Whistling This" on my IPod for the last few weeks. Other artists hot with me lately have been U2, David Grey, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5 and the ever present Dave Matthews.

I had heard the new REM cd is supposed to be about America in the post-9/11 era. Is that true? As with everything REM does, I'm really looking forward to it. However, I think the last great cd they released was the perfectly-dreary "Automatic for the People".

The passing of Elliott Smith leaves Joseph Arthur as my go-to brooding, depressed folk-rocker. Just picked up his fourth LP, Our Shadows Will Remain. Not bad; need to listen to it under many different circumstances (how does it sound on headphones while on the subway after a night at the bar?), but after three spins I'd give it a B. His critically acclaimed 2000 release Come to Where I'm From remains my favorite of his.
Speaking of Elliott Smith, his final album comes out Tuesday. Already read raves in Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly. Could it possibly surpass X/O? Either/Or?
Oh, and does anyone here like Patti Scialfa? I obtained her June release 23rd Street Lullaby, and while not all the tracks are classics (though "Rose" is in heavy rotation on my RealPlayer), I adore her singing voice. Anyone have an opinion of her other album, Rumble Doll?
Speaking of interesting voices, a friend has turned me on to a duo call Tegan & Sara, whom I've been told are twin lesbians. Their voices sound so scratched and lived-in and beautifully unpolished and real, like Courtney Love.

#1 on my MDB jukebox is Miss Kylie Minogue's new single "Believe In You" which is off of her fothcoming Ultimate Hits cd. The song is a collaboration with Jake Shears and Babydaddy of Scissor Sisters.
Kylie's Greatest Hits tour kicks off in November.
I have my own version of her Ultimate Hits as I would have left off some of her earlier songs and put on a few more of her "Impossible Princess" songs.
The tracklisting is:
'I Should Be So Lucky’
'Got To Be Certain’
'The Locomotion’
'Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi’
’Especially For You’
’Hand On Your Heart’
’Wouldn’t Change A Thing’
’Never Too Late’
’Tears On My Pillow’
’Better The Devil You Know’
’Step Back In Time’
’What Do I Have To Do?’
’Shocked’
’Give Me Just A Little More Time’
’Celebration’
’Confide In Me’
’Put Yourself In My Place’
’Where The Wild Roses Grow’
’Did It Again’
’Breathe’
’Spinning Around’
’On A Night Like This’
’Kids’
’Please Stay’
’Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’
’In Your Eyes’
’Love At First Sight’
’Come Into My World’
’Slow’
’Red Blooded Woman’
’Chocolate’
’Giving You Up’
’I Believe In You’

Great track listings for Kylie MDB!!
I currently am listening to the following.
The new Maysa Leak "Smooth Sailing" for those who don't know she is the lead singer for Incognito. Classic Maysa!
Queen Latifah "The Dana Owens Album" I liked her voice in Chicago, and this is a nice departure from her rap music. Good cd to chill by.
Danii Minogue "neon nights" I know some people think she sounds to much like Kylie, but it is a good cd anyways.
Incognito "Adventures in black sunshine" features the fabulous vocals of Maysa Leak. This is probably my favorite Incognito cd.

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith finally made up and came out with a new Tears For Fears album, Everybody Loves A Happy Ending. I was shocked at how much the album sounds like a poor man's Beatles. The fifth track, "Who Killed Tangerine?", is "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" meets "Come Together" meets "Hey Jude". But, it is fun, and the melodies work really well. Their first single from the album, "Closest Thing To Heaven", could be called "Sowing The Seeds Of Love (Part 2)". The ninth track, "Secret World", is an instant Tears For Fears classic. I am really enjoying this cd!

Lately I've either been playing my iPod or listening to my Sirius satellite radio, so the CDs haven't been used much lately. But I have 3 new ones acquired over the last couple of weeks or so, and they're in there now:
Seal - Seal IV
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Abba - Gold
For some reason, now there's the thought in my head that "one of these things is not like the other..." wink

These are the discs (and one tape eek! ) that I've been playing on rotation --in the car, while cleaning, before falling asleep, while getting dressed...or just sitting down listening to them-- in the past two and a half weeks or so:
Gustavo Cerati,
11 Episodios Sinfónicos Joni Mitchell,
Taming the Tiger;
Both Sides Now;
For the Roses;
Miles of Aisles (
LOOOOVE "Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire");
Hejira;
Turbulent Indigo Allan Holdsworth,
I.O.U (tape)

;
Secrets Al Di Meola,
Orange and Blue Rokia Traoré,
Bowmboï Wojciech Kilar,
Portrait of a Lady (Soundtrack for the Jane Campion film)
Maurice Ravel,
String Quartet in F major (Emerson String Quartet)
Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock,
1+1 When not playing music, silence does it for me.

It always takes multiple spins of a Joseph Arthur CD for its loveliness to emerge, and Our Shadows Will Remain is no different. I'm on my fifth or sixth run-through, and now tracks 2-4 ("Can't Exist," "Stumble and Pain," and "Devil's Broom") sound like the best songs ever.
Maybe it's the whole 1918 demise, but the vibe these tracks emanate are strangely apropos right now. At least their titles are.

Hey gang,
Are there, by chance, any fans of Scottish band The Blue Nile here on the board? They released a new record, High, a short while ago, and I would like to know if it's any good. The audio feature of my media player doesn't work and I can't listen to any song samples available on the net, plus I haven't seen it in local record stores, so no chance of listening to it before buying it...
Thanks in advance!

I have the new Blue Nile. It's better than Peace at Last, but nowhere near as good as Hats or Walk Across the Rooftops, which would be hard to top.
I'm glad I bought it, though. You can probably find used copies on Amazon or ebay. There are also about a dozen reviews you can read on Amazon if you want more viewpoints.

I am a recent convert to TBN. I had heard about them a long time ago through a knowledgable friend of mine. It wasn't until last year that I purchased
Hats, because that was the record everybody used to name being great, and, also, because Annie Lennox covered "Downtown Lights" and I wanted to listen to the original. After the first few seconds of listening to "Over the Hillside", I fell under their spell...[sigh]
I listened to
Peace at Last way before
Hats, but, for some reason, it didn't catch my attention on first listen. I'll eventually buy it and give it another listen. Maybe now that I'm in another space internally, I'll catch up to it.
Thanks!

From the World's Greatest Rock Band, The Tragically Hip, comes "In Between Evolution," my new all-time favorite Hip album. Just ass-kicklingly great. Gord Downie should be Canada's Poet Laureate. Can't wait for the live show on Dec. 1st.
Based on the recommendations from this thread and board members with good taste (and who taste good), I finally picked up Modest Mouse's "Good News...," and so glad I did! Loving it. What a beautiful mess.
REM's "Around the Sun" is pretty damn disappointing, very flat, without a single interesting thought or aural hook. I liked "Up" a lot, and "Reveal" was okay, but I sure wish they'd find an actual human drummer and lay off the programmed machinery already. Blah. Going to see them live next week-end.
Ron Sexsmith's "Retriever" is yet another collection of terrific songs in the alt-country-MOR mode. Great for the office.
Saw Franz Ferdinand live a few weeks back. The hype was extremely high, but the show delivered. These guys are lots of fun.

Picked up a rather lovely recording from 1999 called "American Anthem: From Ragtime to Art Song" featuring baritone Nathan Gunn and piano man Kevin Murphy. Though it has very little ragtime, the choice of material--from Copland, Barber, Ives, Scheer, Rorem, et al--and performance are wonderful. Also picked up Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company," his duets collection, but haven't yet had the chance to dip into it--looking forward to it tonight.

Bought
Shake the Sheets by Ted Leo + the Pharmacists today, sight unseen (sound unheard?). Read a good writeup for it, but don't know when I'll get around to hearing it since I'm currently obsessed with the new Elliott Smith.
Also purchased another Van Morrison album,
Hymns to the Silence. Wanted it for years; it's the only CD with the song "Take Me Back" on it, which was memorably covered by Jennifer Jason Leigh in the movie
