The Beatles Anthologies...

I've been listening to Amos Lee. He's been hyped in the Philly media (from the area) and Rolling Stone pegged him as someone to watch, whatever that means. He's touring with Dylan. Music is a little too folksy for me but interesting nonetheless,a blend of Soul and Folk.

If you like Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, you'll like this CD.

Anybody have that new album from Bright Eyes, "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn"? Feedback? It's one of two he released simultaneously, the other one doesn't seem to be my bag but I've listened to snippets of Digital, usually I can decide based on just that whether I'm going to like it or not but this one has me flustered. It's only $8 at Target, I should just bite the bullet.

I am currently listening to the sound track of the Almodovar new film, \"Bad Education\"... a very cool movie, and if you are a fan of film noir this is a must see film.
I agree!

"Songs Yet To Be Sung" by Perry Farrell. Got it at a used CD store, really like it. I'm a big fan of PF's, Janes Addiction, Porno for Pyros, etc.

After a bunch of misfires, finally a real leaked retail of Beck's Guero...I'm not all that impressed. Okay, not great.

Tift Merritt's "Tambourine" would be on my CD player right now if I hadn't loaned it to a friend last weekend. It's one of the best albums I've heard in a long time — so good that I play it at least once a week. Has anyone heard Merritt's debut album, "Bramble Rose"?

Apart from "Tambourine," my CD player's got the usual mix — Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Mary Chapin Carpenter and The Subdudes.
bobby78751
The new self-titled cd from Lifehouse. It's better than their second release STANLEY CLIMBFALL cd, but not even close to being as good as NO NAME FACE.
boomer400
The new Weezer song is HORRIFIC. I don't even want to link to it.

M.I.A. - Arular. Bought it yesterday, I don't listen to much hip-hop at all but this has been on constant play since I got the mp3s last week.

I am a happy man! I finally received my "A-Ha Greatest Hits 1984 - 2004" cd. It's a shame they only had a few hits in the States.

I also love itunes free downloads. I got a lot of stuff that I wouldn't normally hear about by downloading the songs. Songs like "Someday" by Flypside, "Walking With A Ghost" by Tegan & Sara, "Eleanor" by Low Millions and "Smile"' by Michael Lord.

I d/l the unreleased "Lovin' You" song by Kylie which didn't make the cut for her latest Greatest Hits cd.

I need to check out some of the artist mentioned in this thread. I'm always looking to expand my music collection.

Totally into this British band Kitchens of Distinction from the late 80s-early 90s. Death of Cool, Strange Free World, Love is Hell, Cowboys and Aliens - all excellent.

Also getting into The Wedding Present, another UK getup.
Mariner Duck Guy
Sheesh, looking back at this thread, I think I post at least two posts a week! I guess that's what I get for commuting alomst 3 hours to/from work on a daily basis. Now you see why I neeed a variety of music!

I just discovered the group The Shore. Wow. LOVE their album called "The Shore". I added all tracks to my "Now" playlist. I guess they've been around the LA scene. I bought their album on itunes.

A bunch of songs that I got from the itunes free download - whoever thought of this should get a raise.

Jason Nevins has remixed Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone".

A swiss DJ has remixed Kurt Nilse's ballad "My Street" into a great dance song.

And finally, some old stuff that I pulled out and added to my Now list because of idol:

"Alone" - Heart
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out For A Hero" - Bonnie Tyler
"Son of A Preacher Man" and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" - Dusty Springfield
"Time After Time" Tara Morice version
and yes,
"I Think I Love You" - The Partridge Family.

And for some bizarre, sick & twisted reason, I am also listening to Snow's "informer" eek! Likky Boom Boom Now.

I thought it was Licky Boom Boom Down ... ?

I'm still listening to the new cd from Lifehouse. smile.gif

Saw Bloc Party at the Bowery Ballroom last night. They were incredible. They're so hot right now, and, for once, the hype is totally justified.
Gaga4Gaby
I am so out of the loop ... I've never even heard of Bloc Party. And my iPod has steadily been spinning Joni Mitchell all week. I'm all about "Raised on Robbery," "Chinese Cafe/Unchained Melody," and "Both Sides Now."

bloc party--you can check out the video to 'Banquet' here.

Honestly guys, all the hype they get is deserved. I thought they'd be iffy live considering how new they are, but they were perfect.

Anastacia's new album "Anastacia". She's got a great voice. This album really rocks. Her new song "Left Outside Alone" is awesome. Actually the whole album is amazing. You can hear clips of the album at
http://www.Anastacia.com It hits stores officially on June 7th.
Mariner Duck Guy
Tommy I LOVE Anasatacia. It's about time the US releases this cd. It's been out for over a year now in Europe. "Left Outside Alone", "Sick and Tired", "Time", "Welcome To My Truth" have all been on my playlist for quite a while. I also love the remix for "Sick & Tired". This cd takes Anastacia more on the rock side rather than the R&B side. She also has a different look in some of her more recent photo shoots.

I just don't understand how she is not more popular in the States.

Thanks for the Bloc Party link, Tom. I'll try to give it a listen.

I don't like that new Anastasia song at all - I think it's terrible - but I like her overall. She reminds me of Taylor Dayne.
TommyC84
It's all in what you like Gaga. It is quite a change from what she's done in the past.

My only problem is that lots of people do the same thing to Anastacia and other artists and compare them to someone else and that label sticks and turns off people who think that Taylor Dayne has come and gone and will miss out on a great performerlike Anastacia. This isn't an attack on you. It's just something that we all do too much of in this country is label people instead of getting to know them. Especially in the gay community. We ignore people who may not be pretty or buff enough. It's one of the things I wish we could all try to change about our culture.

Ok, I'm off the soapbox.
Gaga4Gaby
Hey, I just think she sounds like Taylor Dayne. That's not a bad thing, I promise biggrin.gif

Another Joni Mitchell fan besides me? Who knew, Gaga4Gaby? I saw her with Dylan at MSG a couple of years ago...great show. Anyone heard about a group TV On The Radio?

I know what you mean Gaga-I didn't even know there was a loop. wink I saw your references to Joni and something about a Banquet DVD,and thought Joni had gone back in the catalog and remixed Banquet-off of For The Roses. As for Robbery-it's a classic and so fitting in this NHL-less winter of our discontent. Not sure there'll ever be another Joni...

Joni Mitchell kicks all y'alls asses!! Glad to hear there are other fans here on Outsports. I've been in such a Joni phase lately. Every now and again you rediscover her and realize why she was such an inspiration for so many of the artists who followed her. Her lyrics rock my world.

I fear I'm about to go to the other end of the quality spectrum and buy the new Mariah cd, though. Somebody shoot me and put me out of my misery before I make it to Best Buy!

Great observations Gaga.Don't want to pull a PF and hijack this thread, tongue.gif but talking about Joni as a lyrical genius and an inspiration to peers gets my juices flowing.I see a total imbalance between males and females in the area of songwriting brilliance.Plenty of men I'd rate at the genius level-Jackson,Bruce,Stills/Young just to name a few.But apart from Joni,it's difficult for me to think of a female singer/songwriter that has consistently been able to pen lyrics I'd describe as brilliant and moving.Maybe I'm just a chauvinist with respect to Rock&Roll. smile.gif

I've always been fascinated with Joni's unique role in the emergence of the late 60s So Cal folk/rock scene. As an artist, her influence on both her peers and successive generations of songwriters is legendary. But even more intriguing to me is the way her personal life(relationships) was played out in some of the most defining music of the era.She slept around with other famous people, and wrote about it on albums like Ladies of the Canyon (Graham Nash) and For the Roses (James Taylor ). Conversely, she was also the subject of some songs written by her fellow love interests which also included both Steve Stills and Neil Young. In fact the entire Crosby Stills and Nash album is full of songs that each of them wrote about Joni-virtually everything but Suite Judy Blue Eyes, which Stills wrote about Judy Collins (who has her own Joni connection)Probably the most famous song written about Joni is Our House-Graham Nash's tribute to their time together in Laurel Canyon.

O.K., so I will admit it. I just received the BeeGee's One C.D., all of their number one hits. I got it today and was very happy with it. My fav, and the main reason I bought the CD...the 1975 hit "Jive Talkin'". I can hear that song now....

Still listening to The Shore's cd. Think Keane if they were based out of LA!

Also listening to the Al Green cd that I got from The Ellen show. The song "Perfect To Me" is like going to church!

Jose Feliciano's Greatest hits cd.

Norwegian Idol 1's 3rd place finisher David Pederson who's songs would fit right in on any of today's Top 40 / New Rock playlist.

Paul Weller's remake of the song "Wishing On A Star"

And a bunch of songs from the itunes free download. Songs from artist like Low Millions, Flypsyde, Astaire, Feist, Tegan and Sara and Tyler Hilton.
William1865
Anybody heard the new Martha Wainwright CD? Sounds neat...

That was one of my favorites from last year! Unfortunately, it vanished without a trace. Not real challenging intellectually tongue.gif , but insanely catchy. You'd have thought that combo would have got them on radio. Weird.

I am loving the Benjamin Biolay album 'Negatif', a French songwriter, producer, singer who offers smokey, sultry, interesting music. I got it last year and have listened to it over and over and over. And there is a curious song called 'Gloryhole'. Why a straight frenchman is singing about gloryholes I do not know but the song is good. It's not repetative lounge music, but it is lounge-y. Very laid back, very heady, very cool. The NY Times recently did a story on him, probably spoiling his cool factor. And he's gorgeous.

Also, loving Fantasia's album. Have played it regularly since it was released and find myself singing her songs throughout my work day. Buy it.

Anyone else dig Citizen Cope? It's kind of whiteboy-singer-songwriter-quasi-political-sometimes-hip-hop, but, y'know, catchy. I wanna blast it in front of the White House, especially the track "Bullet and a Target," which indicts our foreign policy and our government's response to blame world reaction "on Zeus and Apollo and Adonis." Or something like that.

I'm also liking the latest Aqueduct. Don't really know much about this band, other than this is their sophomore release. Kinda Brit-poppy with a beat. Loving the track about singing along to Axl Rose and "Sweet Child of Mine" on the radio back in the day.
