I'm currently listening to Moby's new CD, "18". I'm a HUGE Moby fan. "18" is just sublime.

What are you guys listening to?
kariya
I have Cher's Believe in my player right now.

"best of Jimmy Sommerville & The Communards". Gotta love that falsetto of Jimmy. Bronski Beat will always have a very special place in my heart.
Terry A
Puckman, I agree. Jimmy Sommerville has a special place in my heart as well. His version of Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" is wonderful. :-)

I have had Moby in my cd player since Tuesday...he continues to amaze me...I think this will be the cd for the soundtrack of my summer...

Hello Boys and Girls (you know more than us men, visit this site)...but that is not the point of this discussion. I purchased a new computer a few months ago and truly enjoy being able to make my own CD's. What is in the mix now are a bunch of songs related to a theme. The theme of today is Optimism. So here's the deal...on this CD are the following songs.

Optimistic by the Sounds of Blackness
Don't Worry Be Happy...Bobby McFerrin
Take Up a Course in Happiness...Stevie Wonder
Don't Give Up...Peter Gabriel w/ Kate Bush
You Gotta Be... Desiree
People Get Ready...Impressions
People Gotta Be Free...Young Rascals
59th Street Bridge Song...Simon & Garfunkel
Change is Gonna Come...Sam Cooke
Happiness...Sylvester
Sunny Side of the Street...Frank Sinatra (the best version of the song in my opinion)
Blowing In the Wind...Bob Dylan
Lovely Day...Bill Withers
Waterfalls...TLC
Anyway, enough for now...

Right now? "South Pacific," an excellent CD of the remastered recording of the original Broadway performance.

On deck? Madonna's "Immaculate Collection."

Wish list? The new Dave Matthews CD.
George Twins fan
Pete Yorn's "musicforthemorningafter". I just can't seem to take this CD out of the rotation! Also currently have The Beatles White Album (both discs), Nirvana's "Unplugged in New York" and Elvis Costello's latest "When I Was Cruel". Elvis' best in a long time!

I love this topic -- I tried to find the old thread for those of you who are new, so you'd have food for thought, but alas, couldn't.

Right now, I'm listening to the following:
1) Flogging Molly -- swagger. irish punk. it rocks.
2) Rolling Stones -- through the past darkly vo2
I got "jumpin jack flash" in my head and I couldn't help m'self.
3) Evangeline Made -- this is a tribute to cajun music featuring John Fogerty, Maria McKee, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou, among others. Most of it is sung in french, but it don't matter none. Check it out. ("Ma Blonde Est Partie" is really haunting as sung by Maria McKee.)
4) Minutemen -- Double Nickels on a Dime. I kind of have a crush on Mike Watt. He's so sexy.
5) Bette Midler -- Live at Last. I first got this (still have it) on vinyl when I was twelve, and I can recite every word of it.

This week, I've been listening to "Release" by the Pet Shop Boys (getting ready to see them in Las Vegas on June 5th!), "The Classic Chillout Album" by Various artist... alhough I altered the tracks a little to take off the songs I did not like & added a few more that I found more appropriate. And for the stereotypical G-A-Y, blast it in your car, work it out at the gym cd, I have...and trust me, folks, this is a F-I-E-R-C-E cd..."Exposed" by Who's That Girl (Remixer Almighty's Madonna cover band). I also have on order, "Almighty Down Under" which is a compilation cd featuring some big name EuroPop stars. It includes the ever Fabulous Sheena Easton and her version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" as well as Tasmin's awesome version of the Shakespear's Sister song "Stay". On the import front, I am listening to "I AM" by Ayumi Hamasaki as well as "Misia's Greatest Hits". Next on my list to purchase is Moby's "18".
Seph
Moby, "18" – a.k.a. "Play II." Heard it already, Moby!

Wilco & Billy Bragg, "Mermaid Avenue, Vol. II" – better than Volume I, and even includes a baseball song ("Joe DiMaggio"). Just great.

Wilco, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" – psychedelic, obscure, hypnotic; the album that "almost never was" reveals itself to be (imho) a work of understated alt-genius. "War On War" has to be the coolest four minutes of the year.

Elvis Costello, "When I Was Cruel" – Elvis is King again! Take every Elvis album, put 'em in a pot and stir with a grudge. The lyrics are tasty and the riffs stick to the ribs (except for "Radio Silence," which seems completely out of place here). Can't wait for the tour, Elvis!
ursaminorjim
Hey, Mariner Duck Boy - enjoy the show! I saw them on Tuesday, and it was terrific. The new songs sounded absolutely massive, and the revamped classics were fantastic.

Can I ask a favor, though? They had a t-shirt that I really wanted to get, but couldn't afford. If there's any way you could pick it up for me, I'd gladly pay for it (I can also sweeten the deal by offering a PSB rarities CD if you're interested).

Oh, and I totally agree, Seph - 18 should've been called Replay. (No offense, Terry A!)

Nina Simone (various compilation CDs... she done so many marvellous, distinctive songs, some written by her, some by others... Mississippi Goddamn, Don't let me be misunderstood, I put a spell on you, Love me or leave me, Go limp, The other woman... I just love her)

VirginMusic DivasJazz ('borrowed' this from my brother... classics like "Fever" and "Cry me a river" by the likes of Shirley Horn, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, etc.)

Eminem: The Eminem show

Right on. Such a great album. But why, oh, why haven't they been able to put out a CD version of the whole album? It'd certainly fit on one disc, wouldn't it?

I was always more of a George Hurley man myself, though.

nothing like a drummer who takes his shirt off.

my guy. I love that he has changed so much and aged so well. If you scroll down, you'll get to see some pictures of hurley here too.

Jim,
I can do that. What did the shirt look like? Send me an email with your size (and your t-shirt size will also help ) and a description of the shirt and I can get it for you...

I was reading the reviews of the show on their website & it sounds like a different show for them...stripped down & focusing on the music. Did they do "Philadelphia" as the finale in your show?

Sarah Brightman. Just got turned on to her the other night, and am just blown away. Her voice is something from the "other side", and her music is intoxicatingly haunting. Does anyone know much about her? Like where she is from? I know she sings opera, and it sure shows!!!! Fantastic driving music. biggrin.gif
John King
Christina Aguilera's "Stripped". Good CD.

I took out Parachute on Wednesday; I love that CD. Also heard that "A rush of Blood to the Head" is also pretty good.

Could the name of the Album refer to an erection? After all, it's a rush of blood that causes it biggrin.gif

It was pouring down rain during rush hour yesterday here in DC, and it took me almost an hour to get to my place on the Hill from Alexandria. I ended up listening to Heart's Dreamboat Annie the whole trip home. I got it in a bargain bin because of magic man, crazy on you, but had never really listened to the whole thing. I never realized how great the album is. I love it.

I want to get the new radiohead, despite overpoliticized title.

Heart was the first band I ever got into--Dreamboat Annie is a great album. Still love that band, despite All I wanna Do.

Right now I am listening to Michael Buble, Peter Cincotti, Kelly Clarkson, Chet Baker Deep in A Dream compilation, and Robbie Williams' Escapology.
