Iron Man (the original) -- because Tony Stark lost it all due to alcoholism had to face any man's toughest foe -- himself. The storyline with him on the street taught me the power of comics as few people have (Alex Ross is a notable exception) to explore meaningful issues in a powerful way. How far Marvel has fallen from character driven storylines...

I didn't vote as my favorite wasn't on there. Any of the X-men would have received my vote.

John Wesley Shipp as
The Flash in the live-action television show from the 1980's. What a hunk.

I remember that show! J.W.S. was hot but the show was not! Lame scripts and the Flash always seemed to get captured, even though he was the fastest hero on earth!
Anyway, my favorites were and still are Aquaman and Green Lantern. I know it is going to sound perverse but I always wanted to see the 2 of them go at it on "Challenge of the Super Friends."

Marinerfan, I agree totally! Any of the X-Men but especially Storm or Iceman would have received my vote. By the way, playerten, I had the hots for Superman and Aquaman. I always thought they were both hot!

Please. The Amazon Princess all the way, baby. I loved the tv show, loved the comic, loved the cartoons, and am hoping the new Wonder Woman movie actually gets off the ground before I die.
The only exception to this rule is the horrendous Cathy Lee Crosby Wonder Woman. It still hurts today.

For me the hottest one was the stone man from the Fantastic Four. For some reason, a shorter fire-plug build man, with a deep gravely voice really interested me when I was a kid.

Like a couple of others have previously mentioned, I also lusted for Aquaman. Looking back, my first gay crush may have been a cartoon character, though I dare say he was more-dimensional than many of the guys I've dated!
With so many other Superhero movies having been made, I would have thought they'd have done an Aquaman one. With all the great special effects they can do these days, I think they could make a really cool flick.
I was also partial to Spiderman, Batman and The Flash. Never dug Superman much though. I thinkm because my first real exposure to him was that lame 50s TV show starring George Reeves. Man I hated that show.

Good news for you on that front. It was recently announced that Joss Whedon, cretaor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will write and direct the movie version of Wonder Woman.
We discussed it last month here. [ February 02, 2005, 06:38 AM: Message edited by: George_Eaglesfan ]

No one has mentioned Logan/Wolverine yet? Set off pings for me that were pre-puberty but now make all kinds of sense. Remember being fascinated w/ Scott Summers/Cyclops, Sean Casssidy/Banshee, Warren Worthington/Angel. Collosus/Peter was another - and did anyone else notice the shirtless hunk of a actor in the sequel film? Oddly, though my favorite hero was always the android Vision from the Avengers. Interesting choice of non-human, asexual-ness for a little queer kid!

Gaga, thanks for mentioning Wonder Woman. How could I forget the princess?!?! Linda Carter will always be the one and only Amazon princess. Besides the X-Men, I'm also fond of Catwoman (not the horrible rendition Berry did) and Elektra. Elektra is a bit more violent than Diana and Selena but no less effective. Too bad the movie sucked. By the way, Gaga, it is only fair to mention that in a DC/Marvel crossover, Storm did beat Wonder Woman in a fair fight. I believe she unleashed a lightning storm on poor Diana. I also remember Superman beating the Hulk, Silver Surfer beating Green Lantern, and Aquaman beating Sub-Mariner. Come to think of it, I'm gonna have to fight that old copy. Good thread by the way. Thanks for starting it Sonik.

Who knew Homos were into comic books....what is the draw to them (rimshot, please)..Is it the lycra/rubber/tight uniforms/suits? the bulging muscles? the hunky looks?
How come no one mentions the original Speedo wearing superhero...
Although, he seems to have lost the speedo suit somewhere along the way.... eek!

For me, it will always be Superman. Yeah, I had a crush on Aquaman as a kid...and an adult...yeah, some of the other heroes are cool and what not, but I think I'll always be drawn to the grand mythology that the Superman comics presented (that is, until that hack Chuck Austen sunk his useless f**king hooks into Action Comics. Bastard).

Joe, I'm right there with you. Except Adventures of Superman. Right now, that title is firing on all cylinders. Greg Rucka's run on AoS has been nothing short of fabulous. He actually uses most if not all of the supporting cast, keeps his characters in character, and uses Superman's villains to good effect. Action and Superman are...well, tired. Azzarello has had, eight issues?--to tell a story and it still feels like "later that same day." Talk about plodding pacing. And Jim Lee may be a hot artist, but he is NOT a great Superman artist (why do ALL his males look exactly the same??). Austen isn't writing Superman--he's writing some fool who incidentally wears a Superman suit.

The Cathy Lee Crosby version pre-dated Lynda Carter, but not by much. It was a made-for-tv movie circa 1974. As a kid, I'd see it listed in the tv guide and I'd always get excited ... only to try and watch and be horribly disappointed every time.
She's way too covered up in the outfit!

Wonder Woman originally sprang to life as a mediocre TV-Movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby as a bizarre blonde version of everyone's favourite raven haired Amazon.
Having a change of heart, and wanting to suceed, the show was made to be faithful to the original comic book, Lynda Carter was brought on as the title character, and the show was a hit.

Thanks Gaga.....I was wondering if I missed a remake...
I loved the Wonder woman series...Linda Carter. I loved the one with Chloris Leachman as the Mother, and leader of the Amazons. I believe that was the one with the backround story of how Wonder woman was chosen to come to America.
My other favorite was the story line with the "Skrill" (sp) they were stealing the minds of Earths greatest leaders/scientists....

Feb 3 2005, 10:37 AM
Cloris Leachman didn't last long as Hippolyta. She was replaced very soon by the actress who played Morticia Adams, Carolyn Jones!
Debra Winger also got her start on Wonder Woman. She played Wonder Girl! ha ha.

Yep..Diana, came home, and found her sister (Debra) at her apartment, eating Ice Cream.....LOL Gawd, my mind is filled with useless trivia...
BTW..I truly believe that Storm could kick WW's butt in a fight....what good would a magic lasso and bulletproof bracelets do against a tornado or lighting bolts?

One of the best cartoon characters ever, though he technically shouldn't be in this poll since he isn't a comicbook hero. As a TV cartoon hero, he's second to only Bart Simpson though!

I used to read this alot myself. I've been debating whether or not to pick it up myself. I know that they have changed the rosters of all the X-books, brought Colossus back from the dead (I don't know how) and there are many different x-books.
Mainly I stopped reading when they made Professor X a bad guy and had him destroy most of the world. That and they dismantled the school, and its a mess right now, in my opinion.
