Full Version: Ozzie Guillen's Comments

Did anybody else hear the latest ridiculous comments from Assie? In front of the media, he saw a friend and said "Hey everybody, this guy is a homosexual. He's a child molestor". Let's remember that Guillen spoke out strongly urging that the San Francisco Ginats fire the radio announcer who made the "brain dead Caribbean" crack. Guillen better damn well be heavily fined and or suspended. Reinsdorf isn't likely to do it because the Sox are in first place, so Selig better step up. I'm getting sick and tired of us gays being the last remaining acceptable punching bag.

The story, from Chicago Trib columnist Rick Morrissey, Guillen's words miss mark.
QUOTE
The insinuation in his words is that being gay is bad and, worse, that it logically follows that homosexuals are child molesters.
...

Guillen acknowledged he \"said the wrong thing at the wrong time,\" but it's more than that. There's no right time for what he said. The clubhouse and the locker room might be the last place where men can be men, but Guillen has to live in the bigger world. He's the manager. He's not Don Rickles.

Guillen and his team begin a three-game stand tomorrow night in Boston, a city that's particularly sensitive to casual slurs about "child molesters".

We've added Ozzie to our anti-gay Rockers list.

I guess calling gays as molesters is not as bad as calling carribeans brain-dead.

I'd be happy to see the white sox collapse.

If Guillen had said this about a priest - e.g., a priest friend walked in and he said "Hey guys, this guy's a priest, he's a child molester!" why do I think whether the man was offended or not would not matter?

Guillen insists he respects everyone, but clearly he does not. Perhaps he needs to learn that we fags are humans too.

Excellent, excellent point, CPT-Doom. And one could argue a lot more priests have committed child molestation (proportionately and maybe even absolutely) than gay men, but the remark would still be wrong, wrong, wrong.

thanks for the email address...my response is below

To Whom it may conern,

I would like to take a moment and express my disgust for the comments made by Ozzie Guillen in New York the other day. I am a homosexual(not to mention a life long White Sox fan and former season ticket holder), and I find any remarks like the one's made by Ozzie inexcusable. If these were racial remarks he would be suspended, fined, or even fired, but since he was talking about somebody being "gay or queer" it seems to be more socially accepted. I know that Ozzie apologized for what was said, but I do hope the ownership and management speak to him about his insensitivity and let him be aware that this behavior cannot be tolerated and does involve consequences.

Interesting table from this institute that studies child molestors suggesting that they are little different from the average person in many ways.

Contrasts: Admitted Molesters vs. All American Men

1.Admitted Child Molesters
2.American Men

Married or formerly married
1 77%
2 73%

Some College
1 46%
2 49%

High School only
1 30%
2 32%

Working
1 69%
2 64%

Religious
1 93%
2 93%

Sexual orientation data might indicate a similar pattern.

I was disappointed to hear the guys on PTI suggest that this was in the acceptable range for locker room banter. Let's hope Ozzie "slips up" again so the sports talking heads can get another chance to get this one right.

I've been saying for MONTHS that this guy's an idiot, and ya'll have been disputing this.

Apologies accepted, people. tongue.gif

BTW, I doubt he'll be disciplined by Reinsdork. He tends to put noncaucasian people on a higher pedestal. They're rather immune from his wrath, since to do so would look bad in public, maybe even gaining the attention of the not so reverend Jesse the Exploiter.

If a sports personality says it in front of the media, it must be true. So I say let's get the local authorities to investigate Ozzie's friend as a potential child molester. Get his name out there and start asking the guy's friends, family, business associates etc. if they have any knowledge of him acting inapproprately with kids. Church functions? Little League? Boys and Girls clubs?

Maybe then people like Ozzie will realize that words have consequences.

This columnist believes Reinsdork should suspend Ozzie.

All these days later and still no suspension or fine. Nice.

Pretty f*cked up, Ozzie, pretty f*cked up. I actually liked and supported you. I still support the team, but he needs to be suspended and publicly dressed down, by Reinsdoofus. PUBLICLY.

Yep. I sent this e-mail to the White Sox on Friday.

>>>Dear Sir:

As a Latino, as a baseball fan, and as a gay man, I'm completely appalled by Ozzie Guillen's insensitive, damaging, and shockingly ignorant comments equating homosexuals and child molesters. A week ago, in reaction to the contretemps in San Francisco, Mr Guillen was publicly bemoaning the sting that insensitive comments bring on. As someone who says he felt that sting, he has no business bringing that same pain on another group.

A week ago I attended a Yankees - White Sox game in NYC and marveled at the positive changes Mr. Guillen has wrought in the White Sox this year. I now have the exact opposite impression, both of Mr. Guillen and the White Sox organization, than I had just a few days ago. His comments, and your organizational silence on this matter, show you to be homophobic and uncaring, as well as just plain bigoted.

I await a real apology - as opposed to the "if I offended anyone I apologize" nonsense. I also await a real stance by the White Sox organization - ie. a public repudiation of the comments, and a fine and suspension of Mr. Guillen. Anything less is unacceptable and unforgiveable.<<<

As of today I have not even received the common courtesy of an acknowledgement, let alone a response. Classy outfit, those White Sox.....
MIB
I would be very surprised if Reinsdork does anything to Ozzie. I hate to make this sound racial, but it is. Reinsdork is NOT going to do anything against a minority person. That would cause an uproar.

Reinsdork knows many Sox fans can't stand him, so he generally tries to placate them and others by appearing to be the sensitive type of guy who bends over backward to help minorities, thereby looking like a hero of some sort.
