I am a lifelong fan of heavy metal. Or almost lifetime. I became a heavy metal devotee at about 12 years old. My favorite bands are groups such as Judas Priest, AC/DC and Black Sabbath but I like the new band The Darkness which is a major act in the U.K. I like many death metal acts too. Cradle Of Filth and Dying Fetus are both great acts. Pantera will always be one of my faves. And though many people don't consider Linkin Park to be real metal they are bringing many converts to the faith.

I used to love Judas Priest! and yes, I was infatuated with Rob Halford for a time. Was so glad to hear he came out of the closet. I was also a big fan of the Scorpions, Motley Crue, Ratt, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and Poison. There was another band, I think their name was WASP, that was pretty cool. They got into trouble with some Washington officials because they felt their lyrics were going too far. I think my favorite metal band was Def Leppard. Didn't one of their band members die? I remember hearing something about it in the early 90s but then by that time I changed my music taste.

Idol & Judas Priest, Saving Heavy Metal From the Slag Heap

Middle age has done nothing to hamper snarly rocker Billy Idol's hunger for sex, satanic references and snug leather pants. Same goes for Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford, a randy demon whose lust for rawhide has caused more cow casualties than Burger King.
....

In between goofy Gothic trips to \"the black country\" with its \"blood red skies,\" Birmingham, England's Halford, 53, also addresses his love life on his new disc, and that's where things really get interesting. The head Priest went public with his homosexuality some 12 years ago, forcing a handful of clueless metalheads -- come on, dudes, your codpieced hero made Liberace look preppy -- to rethink the classic \"Turbo Lover.\" Halford left the band right after his announcement, forcing the crew to sign utility howler Tim \"Ripper\" Owens, who had fronted a Priest cover band.

Owens was a good story, but Halford is a metal messiah. On the tingly new power ballad \"Angel,\" Halford tenderly calls out for a lover: \"When I close my eyes I hear your velvet wings and cry / I'm waiting here with open arms.\" Yes, the angel is a dude.

Even though it was without Tommy Lee, I did get to see Motley Crue about 5 years ago when they went on tour. Though we sat in the VIP area of the ampitheater getting drunk while Megadeath opened for them. Id rather drink than see Dave Mustaine, lol.

To top it off-- my mother, who will be 51 this year, has been to see Metallica within the last couple years.
