Okay, I know there's a few people here who are fans of (shudder) Creed. I, however, am not one of them. So, hurrah for me, and my condolences to any fans out there.
Creed Calls It Quits
The members of Creed have confirmed that they will split after almost a decade together. The announcement comes three months after Creed songwriter/singer Scott Stapp told Billboard that his bandmates would take a break.
In a statement issued today (June 4) and posted on the band's official Web site, Stapp says, "Creed was one of the most amazing journeys through music and friendship I am blessed to say I was a part of."
Creed's last studio album, Weathered, debuted in December 2001 at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has more than 6.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A spokesperson for the Wind-up Records act says the band's three albums have accrued worldwide sales to date in excess of 30 million units.
Going forward, Creed songwriter/guitarist Mark Tremonti will collaborate with the band's drummer Scott Phillips, original Creed bassist Brian Marshall and former Mayfield Four singer/songwriter Myles Kennedy on a new project called Alter Bridge. The band's debut album will be released Aug. 10 through Wind-Up.
"It's kind of sad to end a chapter of your life, but it's also exciting to be starting a new one," Tremonti says in the statement. "We'll always be proud of the music we made with Creed, but Alter Bridge gives me the opportunity to start over with a different perspective and a more evolved direction. This band begins and ends with the love of the music."
An Alter Bridge promotional acoustic tour of radio stations is planned for the summer. A worldwide tour will begin in late August or early September. The band has already established a Web presence at alterbridge.com.
As previously reported, Stapp will contribute material to a compilation of compositions inspired by the film The Passion of the Christ. The set is due Aug. 31 via Wind-Up.
The singer will also continue to work with producer 7 Aurelius, best known for his work with such hip-hop heavyweights as Nelly and Ja Rule, on his solo debut. Canadian rock act the Tea Party has been tapped to work on the set. Stapp has also claimed his own Web space at scottstapp.com, which promises a full site is coming soon.
Finally, Wind-Up will release a Creed greatest hits compilation later this year.

I'm sorry - it's just
too funny.
Creed are breaking up, but the guitarist and drummer are forming a new band...with the old bassist...and a new singer.

Yay, I get so tired of these "earnest rockers" as I like to call them. Now if Evanescence will just break up, I'll be happy. Of course, then I'm just going after Sixpence None the Richer.

They're going to form a Christian jam-band called Fish...

Yeah, but they're more fluffy than "earnest" ... I mean, they covered the one semi-hit ever recorded by the La's. I think the Pence will just float away into the ether of piped-in office and mall music, like the 9,999 Maniacs (you know, 10,000 minus Natalie?).

I used to like Creed. But after their first album they fell into a "commercial" trap and their music became less and less interesting.
I hope this isn't a double post, I wrote this once but it disappeared when I hit "add reply"?

Creeds first cd was incredible. It was very different than the other two which were simply commercial anthemn drivel. A song like "My Own Prison" is simply a rock classic. Its such a shame they ruined themselves in their next two releases. I would think that the new group that forms will be a less commercial more harder edged band similar to the first Creed cd.
As for bands breaking up and forming a new group with a new singer. It was recently done with a counterpart of Creed. The band was called Days of the New who had similar success to Creed on the alternative charts in 1997-98. They broke up and the lead singer continued as Days of the New and released two more cds with a couple of more alternative hits. The rest of the band grabbed a new singer and called themselves Tantric and they just released their second cd earlier this year with the first cd spawning the hits "Breakdown" and "Mourning".

Yeah, but it's also a blatant Pearl Jam knockoff. Not that a lot of the grunge (excuse me, "nu-metal") bands didn't have a certain sameness (genre bands fit radio-chain playlists easily), but this was just glaringly derivative.
Lifehouse is even more derivative -- a knockoff of a knockoff. The same could be said of half the bands (and singers) on the radio these days, but that's exactly my point. Enough already.
The other thing that bothered a lot of people about Creed (and other posters alluded to this) was the mix of thinly veiled religiosity with "edgy" worldliness -- trying to look "real" and "relatable" (if that's even a word) in a way that ends up looking even more like a marketing tactic than the slickness of the boy bands. In my churchgoing days, that was half the appeal of bands like Creed (at least to my then-friends who dug anthems like "Higher" -- or, ugh, "Hanging on a Moment" by Lifehouse), but now it just gives me a "what was I thinking?" hangover.

I'm glad that Creed is breaking up. My friend made me listen to their CD on a roadtrip. I nearly lost my mind.
I am glad that the very attractive Mark Tremonti will be doing something else, I would hate for him to fade into obscurity. He made the Creed videos worth watching.

I heard they did. That chick will probably do a solo album with her next release.

I am a huge fan of Creed. They have had such a profound influence on the music industry. The music industry is in such decline. It is a shame that bubble gum rubbish like Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and the like dominate music. British music is in such decline as well with the exception of THE DARKNESS who are wonderful.

I did just read that the guitarist for Evanescence left, he apparently wrote a lot of their songs. He actually is working with Kelly Clarkson now. Interesting.
What will movies and TV do for music now that Evanescence is off the scene? Wait, Nickelback still exists, so they're safe.

AAAUUUGGGHHH! I just saw the Alter Bridge video on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown. My ears are killing me! They MUST be stopped. Somebody needs to inform these suck-assers that splitting your band up, then reforming without the lead singer, and changing your suck-ass group's name does NOT qualify as your suck-ass band splitting up. Splitting up would mean answering my prayer and going away forever and never playing suck-ass music together again. Geez, I'd rather listen to shit-dropping Dave Matthews than any form of suck-ass Creed.
