I always admire the tenor voice in a male rock, pop or r&b band. There's just something about hearing the tenor voice of a male group. It's my favorite voice range in a male group. The tenor brings so much emotion into a song. I am becoming more and more a Linkin Park fan mostly because I am in love with the voice of lead singer Chester Bennington. I can bet now he is probably going to wind up going solo. Dennis DeYoung of Styx was another tenor voice I was in love with way back when I was a teenager.

Is tenor your favorite voice range in male groups? And who are your favorites?

I really think men who sing at the tenor level are so cute. Something about the feminine sound in their voices that makes them so enjoyable to listen to.

Another tenor who comes to mind is Russell Hitchcock from the group Air Supply. He had such an incredible tenor voice. That group had some of the most beautiful and sometimes haunting melodies of the 1980's with him as lead singer.

One of the greatest was Marty Balin with Jefferson Airplane.

Are we only talking bands/groups?

If so, the best? Michael Jackson.

As for Steve Perry. He's brilliant. And learned everything he knows from The Greatest Ever:

Sam Cooke.

Yes Michael Jackson should be included considering his days with the Jacksons.

But if we are going to throw solo artists in the mix, then I have to include Neil Sedaka. When I was a kid listening to "Laughter In The Rain",
I swore a woman was singing it. I was wrong. What a voice!

I never thought of the tenor as being a feminine sound... as a matter of fact - one of my all-time favorites singers in Rock, is the testosterone-crazed tenor Meatloaf!.

I am an old guy and grew up with Motown, so my votes would go for:
Smokey Robinson--The Miracles
Eddie Kendricks--The Temptations
