I listen to streaming radio out of England. It is Virgin Radio and I really, really love it. It is good anytime of the day. Usually I get the drive time show with Kelly in London at about 8:00. Then there's Most Wanted with Ben Jones, who is total Babe...Then there is Virgin Confessions with Jezza...Daryl Denham is my favorite, but I don't get to hear him as much since he changed his schedule.

Check it out!

Shoutcast - literally thousands of MP3 streams in every conceivable genre, most non-commercial. Among my favorites are the Radio IO channels - subscription requested but not required if you access them through Shoutcast.

For a player, I use the free, smallish Winamp, although most any MP3 client will do. (Avoid Windows Media Player, a major memory-hog!)

Regardless of what type of music you enjoy or how much memory and bandwidth you have available, IMHO you can't beat the Shoutcast/Winamp combo.

In another thread, PatSanFran posted

I'm looking for a good-quality Internet radio site. Free would be best, of course, but if there is a small fee, I would pay it. I've been using live365.com, but it's connectivity is sort of spotty (at least on my PC). Thanks!

If you can wear headphones at work, some good gay internet radio sites are listed at About Gay Radio.

I hope that my boss doesn't see this post.

I like the variety of internet listening available through www.Live365.com .
It's similar to ShoutCast.

For jazz fans, there's a decent show on nightly on CBC Radio 2. The only minor cavill I have is that it's optimised for Windows Media Player.

Pat, in addition to the advice you'll get here, there's an extensive List of Internet stations online at Wikipedia.

Good one, MarcusF, thanks!

Actually you're not chained to CBC's dedicated Windows Media interface. They also stream in the OGG format, which plays in Winamp 5 (see my post above). Winamp uses way less memory and is more fully-featured than Windows Media Player, and its "Classic" skin is small enough to keep in the Windows title bar without obscuring your application -- until you need all its options visible.

If you enjoy jazz, you should definitely check out WGBH-FM, our NPR station up here that streams great jazz every night (except Saturday) starting at 7pm, and overnight as well if you're a late-stayer-upper.
