Since I’m on this site every day of the week, I thought Outsports would be a perfect place to write 2004 Concert reviews for shows that you would/would not recommend. I have Bette Midler's “Kiss My Brass” concert tickets coming up on February 3rd & I’ve been reading great reviews for the Divine Miss M's latest show. Anyone here seen it yet?

I haven’t seen any concerts in 2004, but the year has just started.

So, fire up your pens & post your 2004 concert reviews!

Thanks for reminding me to look for local tickets to see her! Thread idea sounds good and I look forward to reading what you have to say about Bette. I think I read that she's going back to her previous touring style with the creative productions (like wheelchair mermaids) and bawdiness (Live at Last is probably my favorite live album).

Since David Bowie postponed his December show until May due to the flu, all I have seen in 2003 was another David ...David Gray! While he is not the most animated performer in the world, he puts everything else into his shows. The fans are loyal ones who have been buying his albums for years (even before he had the big hit "Babylon"). The concert must have been about 2 1/2 hours, and I throughly enjoyed every moment of it. His, final, final encore was a brilliant 15 minute version of the beautiful "Please Forgive Me". What a voice! What a talent!

Sorry, I just realized that this thread was for 2004, not 2003 reviews. I will be back on this thread after the Bowie show in May.

Sorry, dude, I was saving your invite for the next Metallica concert....

Plus, I didn't want you running to the front of the stage screaming "I Love you Bette, I LOOOOOVE YOOOOU!!!!" Oh, and don't forget what happens everytime you hear "Wind Beneath My Wings". Oy.

David's show (with Turin Brakes!) was my best for 2003, too. Woof! REM was really good as well.

I can't wait until Fleetwood Mac returns to the States following their Australian leg of the Say You Will tour. They put on a show befitting bands half their age. Lindsey Buckingham has been a total madman with the guitar and his vocals. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie have been their usual underrated rhythm section selves and Stevie Nicks has been as beguiling as ever. I swear to God that woman does NOT look 55!

I'm still buzzing about the New Years Eve show that I saw. Grandaddy is sort of an American version of Radiohead, lots of good songs. The Polyphonic Spree is a 24-person "orchestra" that has been described as "Up With People meets Pet Sounds". They were wonderful--normally, uplifting and joyous music drives me nuts but I really needed to hear their stuff on NYE.

I'm also excited because I got a ticket to see the Israeli goa trance group Infected Mushroom. It's an all-nighter, so luckily, it doesn't start until 10:00 pm; I can take a nap before the show.

Went to see Cyndi Lauper on Saturday. She was performing at the local outdoor festival located on one of the piers on the Seattle waterfront. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. It was festival seating and we ended up getting seats 5 rows back, center stage! I was on the aisle and I was hoping that I would get to hold her hand because Cyn is known to come down off the stage during her concerts. To my dismay, she didn’t come down our aisle  but she did go down the aisle one section over from us three times. She stood on their chairs and sang parts of “Shine”, “Money Changes Everything” and one other song. This is the third time that I’ve seen her perform and I always feel satisfied after her concerts. She is freakin’ awesome live. Her voice is incredible. “She Bop” was done “French Style” with accordion and accompanying swaying back and forth. One of my favorite songs of the evening was the song she co-wrote with Ryuichi Sakamoto called “Endlessly”. This song is from her full blown album “Shine”, not the EP version that was released in the states, and is only available as a Japanese import. I was thrilled that she sang “I Drove All Night” because it’s one of my favorite Cyn songs. “True Colors” and “Time After Time” were beautiful. She used a hammer to pound out a beat for “Change Of Heart”. Cyn opened the set with Etta James’ “At Last”. She also performed “Stay”, “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “Walk On By” – rock version, from her “At Last” album. I wished she sang “If You Go Away” but she took that song out of her set along with “All Through The Night” They had a 10:30pm curfew on the concert but she blew past it & performed until 11:00pm. She brought her kid on stage and he had a diva-like tantrum because his drum set wasn’t set-up properly (the Declyn is 7 or 8 y/o?)! Declyn played along with mom on “It’s Hard To Be Me” which segued into “Money Changes Everything”. Cyndi climbed up the speakers, danced and jumped around the stage, ran around in the audience and basically looked fabulous for someone 51 years old. Her opening act was a local comedienne and a new singer named Jennifer Marks who was very impressive. I ended up buying Jennifer’s cd and she autographed it along with her band. Jennifer was very down to earth and appreciative of the crowd support. She even shot video of us with her digital camcorder so she could share it with her family!

All in all, it was a great night. Met some fabulous and fun people standing in line. I also got to meet an absolutely gorgeous guy who was at the concert by himself since his boyfriend had broken up with him a few days earlier. I told him that Cyndi will be a good therapeutic experience for him & f*ck his ex! If you haven’t seen Cyndi perform live, you should go & see her. Her tickets are usually not as expensive as the A-list acts so you can see her for a pretty reasonable price but the experience will be priceless!

I love Cyndi in concert. My ex and I once drove 12 hours to see her at Foxwoods in CT then turned around and drove back. It was totally worth it! We both got to shake her hand and at one point she rested her hand on my ex's shoulder to steady herself during one of her forays. It was awesome. I'm so glad she still performs regularly.

Just had 8th row seats for Shania last weekend in Sunrise, FL. Great show, (Hot bass player in black tank, and combat boots, and pants!). Good voice, but not as great music wise as the Dixie Chicks earlier in the year....
