John Hirschbeck has been given a 10-day suspension for mouthing off with an official at the commissioners office.

The penalty was announced Wednesday after the umpire met at the commissioner's office with Rob Manfred, executive vice president for labor relations in the commissioner's office.

Hirschbeck got into a heated telephone conversation with Manfred last month and made personal threats against him. Hirschbeck was upset that an acquaintance was one of 26 baseball employees laid off Jan. 22.

Hmmmmm.....I wonder if John Hirschbeck used the same kind of inappropriate language in his confrontation with Roberto Alomar back in 1996? This suspension, coupled with Froemming's last week and other incidents, makes me wonder if maybe MLBB should consider some type of anger-management training for its umpires? Throw in Roger Clemens and they'd probably qualify for a group discount.
