Following one of last year's presidential debates, the talking heads were chatting about the debate while screaming, rowdy, seemingly drunken college kids were behind them yelling and waving. Two girls in particular were looking pretty frisky and in one wide shot, one of the girls looked ready to flash her boobs. Well, the quick-thinking director (who had probably been watching the crowd pretty closely) quickly switched to a shot of one of the commentators. When the wide shot came back, the girls were gone, obviously escorted away.
I don't understand why news studios need a window onto a sidewalk as their backdrop. I find it very distracting and really unnecessary. I also get really nervous, wondering when some whacko is going to pull out a gun or stick a spectator with a knife on camera. Maybe that's what it will take for the window-backdrop trend to go away.
I also remember years and years ago the camera came back to Jim Lampley early during a voiceover and he had his pinky finger up his nose.
And I love when you have two newscasters, one is speaking but the camera is still focused on the one who is not speaking. They always get that deer in the headlights look. hahaha If they studied journalism instead of going to charm school maybe they would know how to handle themselves better.
