LOS ANGELES - Tom Cruise has a new girlfriend — actress Katie Holmes.

Cruise, 42, and Holmes, 26, have been dating a few weeks, Cruise’s publicist and sister, Lee Anne DeVette, said Wednesday. The pair were photographed this week together in Rome, where Cruise on Friday will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Italian equivalent of the Academy Awards, the David di Donatello Awards.

Tom starts dating yet another ingenue who just so happens to have a movie coing out (Batman Begins) at the same time he has one coming out (War of the Worlds) right after Brad and Angelina have dominated the tabloid headlines. Yeah, okay.

I liked the report on this where they had to mention that she was taller than Tom....uh, isn't just about everyone taller than Tom, what is he like 5'4"? Personally, he skeeves me out.

I met Chris Klein and Katie Holmes about two years ago. Chris was a doll - SUPER nice and friendly. Katie was a bit standoffish, but still friendly (I think she was pissed at something Chris had done, so she was a bit out of it).

Even the Olsen Twin's look down to talk to him!

There was a blind item in one of the gossip columns recently, around the time of the Katie/Chris Klein break-up (I believe they were engaged), about a gay male celeb that may have referred to Chris Klein. Could be Ms. Holmes is perfecting a talent in the beard department.

She shouldn't have too much trouble if she stays with Cruise for a spell.

Who cares if Tom Cruise is gay or not, seriously? I don't care how good looking or how much money you have; if you're 42 years old and still lying about your sexuality then there can't be a whole lot of happiness in that life. The flip side, if he's straight, it's sad to me that so many gay men spend so much time "wishing" straight guys gay. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I'm a whole lot more interested these days in people who I know are gay then people who I think might be.

I really don't care about the lives and loves of empty-headed celebrities, but the "CBS Early Show" having Kermit the Frog discuss his realtionship with Holmes is kind of cute. Now I want Miss Piggy to alter the Loretta Lynn song and warble: "You Ain't Woman Enough to Steal my Frog."

I agree with kalabro about Tommy. He cries for a lawyer way too much. I wouldn't care so much about his sexual orientation if he didn't keep making it news.

There was an interesting interview with him and Spielberg about War of the Worlds and the interviewer kept going on and on about Scientology. Tom's defense was all about not judging people or giving in to stereotypes, and yet if he's such a giver (his word, I swear) and doesn't believe in any kind of oppression or prejudice, why does he scramble for legal cover the minute someone even remotely hints he might be gay? He's all about equality and then someone says "homosexual" and suddenly he's Karen Silkwood in need of a radiation shower to get the dirty words off him.

This is why I don't like him, and since I never liked Katie Holmes (she always talks like she just had a stroke and her mouth is paralyzed on one side), I say good for them...they'll never procreate, thank God, so let them suffer with each other. I can't think of more deserving mates.

did anyone see them on Oprah? I saw clips of it. Man what a train wreck. Hes saying he loves her and he has never felt this way...blah blah blah, and than Oprah asks about if he will ask her to marry him, and he says, "well I would have to talk to her about this", CMON, they've been dating for a month. This is ridiculous. All the while the audience is screaming and carrying on...WHAT THE! Than she comes out and they are kissing, it was stomach turning.

Good grief, Cruise was on the Today Show this morning giggling like a schoolgirl who just got her first kiss. He was being interviewed by the equally vapid Billy Bush, who kept babbling about how he knew about the Cruise - Holmes pairing before they went public with it. If I heard Tom say "this woman is majestic" or "I'm not going to hide it" one more time I think I would've lost my Fruit Loops. For someone who was always so private, this sudden insistence on not only giving us all way too much information, but on actually shoving it down our throats on every media outlet in creation is awfully odd. By the end of the "interview", I wanted to take a second shower, this one with scalding hot water.

Allen, I'm with you. I was watching that this morning after my shower and was thinking this is insane. He is literally making a fool out of himself over someone that looks like her parents just sold her into an arranged marriage.

I missed the Cruise-fest on Oprah yesterday, but when I saw this all I could think was \"bet the mother of his children is not happy to see him saying that.\"

EXACTLY! I have no idea if the guy is a 'mo or not (although like kalabro and Baily, I can't stand the man because of his protestations of heterosexuality), but all the media crap certainly makes this "dating" look more and more staged. They BOTH have movies coming out and suddenly he's talking to every media outlet about his new "love" (who, incidentally, is young enough to be his daughter). No coincidence there, I'm sure.

In my experiences, when rumors start swirling about whether you are gay or not, usually means someone knows something....and it's usually true.

I tivo-ed Oprah yesterday and have to say that the whole interview was creepy beyond belief. Oprah was asking how he even met Katie, and he said that he'd been admiring her work for years and thought she was so talented that he wanted to meet her. That brings up the question... wasn't she just a teenager when she started on Dawson's Creek and he was admiring her acting? There's something really unsettling that.

Oprah kept asking him questions about the relationship and he couldn't stop giggling and acting coy like you'd expect a teenage girl to act. It was odd to say the least. Several times when he kept giggling, Oprah would get get a stern look on her face and say, "No, I'm serious."

When Katie came onstage to join them, it was scary to see how odd they look as a couple. You know how you can see when couples are obviously in love and their body chemistry is just right? Well they were the exact opposite. It looked very forced and unbelievable. At one point, they kissed in one of the most awkward looking kisses I've ever seen. Thank god for tivo because we were able to rewind multiple times and see the kiss because it was hilarious... she opened her mouth and he gave a pursed lip quicky kiss that barely touched her lips and was at a weird angle that caught mostly cheek. And then even in slo-mo, he pulled away so incredibly quick.

It was quite a sight. Good for a robust laugh.

Cruise acted like an idiot yesterday. I just don't get it. If he's on the level, why would he have the need to act the way he did. If this is about publicity, jeez, how can that guy need publicity? He was so full of crap I found it detestable. Not that the audience wasn't just as pathetic, swooning over his every word.

Fortunately I missed Tombelina on Oprah yesterday. But from the excerpts I read in the paper, all his quotes professing his undying-I've-never-been-in-love-like-this-before-and-she-is-the-the absolut-bar-none-love-of-my-life are almost identical to the things he said about Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, et al. He's as robotic in his his real life as he is on the big screen.

I usually despise all the speculation about somebody being gay. Frankly it's none of our business. But when somebody like this Scientology-drooling boob just won't shut the f**k up, never-endingly ramming his love life down our collective throats, I just wish someone would produce proof of somebody ramming something down his, just so he will go away already.

I saw this yesterday and all I kept thinking was "this looks so staged". I dont know or care who he sleeps with but it did seem extremely odd that a 40 yr old man would be so over the top. It just felt like he was proclaiming "I'm straight" for a full hour,when as Spielberg said he was supposed to be promoting his new movie.

He also said something else about how Scientology would have cured Brooke Shields of her post-partum depression with vitamins instead of medicine.

Are vitamins helping him not like the cock so much?

Does anyone have any idea where all the talk about Tom being gay started? Was it just wishful think on the part of some of us?

I'm not going to enter the "is this romance for real" fray directly, but it baffles me that Oprah Winfrey would take part in this. Whenever she has a celebrity guest and the topic (inevitably, it seems) devolves to the public's fascination with public split-ups--as in Tom/Nicolle or Brad/Jennifer--Winfrey always reminds viewers that the perfect life we see on the red carpet has been created by publicists and has nothing to do with reality. Winfrey often adds that all celebrity comments about their lives have been crafted, in part, by their agents and publicists.

If she truly believes all celebrity comments to be crafted by agents and publicists, I have to question why Winfrey would present this stuff on her program as the real (in this case) Tom Cruise?

Oprah wants the ratings, pure and simple. She may not be doing sleazy Jerry Springer-type shows, but she's not above feeding on the Hollywood trough.

First of all it's sweeps month. Tom Cruise = ratings. Second, Oprah loves Steven Speilberg and Speilberg directed Tom's new movie War of the Worlds. Third, while Oprah still does the occasional "serious" issue, her show has turned more and more into a celebrity taint-licking festival where her house frau audience can whip itself into a maddening, seal-clapping frenzy where even a C-List celebrity warrants a 2 minute standing ovation.

Like I said, I didn't see the interview. But did Oprah challenge Tom on Scientology? Or how he dumped Nicole Kidman just weeks before their 10 year anniversary, where Kidman would have been entitled to a boatload of Tom's money? If John Doe were her guest and did to his wife what Tom did to Nicole, she'd have grilled him mercilessly.

It was rumor and speculations for many years until three or four years ago when the flames really started to spread when an adult film star was saying he was Tom's former lover...I think a multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed by Tom against the guy.
