It looks like the new season will premiere on May 27th if the rumors prove true.
It has been confirmed by a reliable poster at another board that Auckland New Zealand is one of the destinations and at least 6 teams were spotted with cameral crews on 02/21/04 and were seen departing the next day. The person who posted this information only saw 3 teams departing Auckland.
I will not list the descriptions of the teams as that would be considered a spoiler and I don't want to ruin it for anyone. This does confirm they are almost finished filming the new season.
I can't Wait! Next to Jim Allen,

I suspect I am the biggest TAR fan on this board.

Oh, dwb56,
please post here, even if it's just cut n' pasting your comments about the episodes that you make there. I refuse to go to TWOP as I got banned by that beyotch Wing Chun for no good reason and I refuse to go back there and give her click-through money. Pretty please?
As Marinerfan knows, I am a huge fan of this show--next to
Six Feet Under, it's my favorite show--so I can't wait for it to start. I just checked, nothing up at the SeeBS site yet. The rumors at FORT are flying back and forth.
I'm not going to do recaps this year. Someone else want to? By the final two episodes last year, I was sick of the whole thing: the recaps, the show, Red Bull. I just want to enjoy the show this year.

Jim Allen, I saw a news story on Anderson Cooper 360 that I think you should have watched. It was about internet addiction, and it seems to me if you get BANNED from an internet site, that's evidence you've got a problem. What does one do to get banned? It's like getting kicked out of the public library.

Good news. I stopped watching midseason 3 (and totally missed season four), but this was definitely the best reality-based show going.

Shore, have you ever been to TWOP? People like PhillyFan or Bobby78whatever wouldn't last a day there. Poor spelling, not using the quotes thing correctly, *gasp* double posting are verboten. It is heavily moderated, which is both good (it's easy to read because people take time to do their posts right) and bad (see below). It makes the occasional whining here about the "heavy-handed moderators" laughable.
Here's the deal: I was a regular on the TWOP Queer as Folk board. I loved the woman who did the recaps and moderated the board, Camper. She got fired/left and the woman they brought in made no secret that she hated the show. I commented that maybe it would help if the recapper/moderator actually *liked* the show she was assigned to. Wham! Banned for dissing a moderator, a rule no one knew existed. I pleaded with Sars and Wing Chun to reinstate me and was totally smacked down. That was that.
Sometimes people who run websites are tyrants. It happens.
Anywho......Joe, you should watch the show, despite your aversion to reality TV. You might like this one, it really IS different from all the others.

Well I was such a big fan after the first show, that my partner and I applied for the show. Someone from casting called us and told us they loved our video but we were not eligible because my partner works for an airline, which as she stated would be an unfair advantage. I tried to argue that would make for good TV, but she wasn't buying it at all.
In any case I am glad we have a bunch of Outsporters who are big fans of the show. It makes discussion after the show that much better!

bobby ... I'm willing to say that we are both the biggest fans of TAR. I attempted to apply for the show as well ... I had two people in mind, and even thought of how our background stories would get us on the show.
My boyfriend and I would be a great team because he's the physically strong hunk of man and I would be the witty, snarky navigator-type who America would fall in love with. However, we realized that one of us would have a huge blow-up at the other person ... think Flozac in Vietnam only 10x worse (Our experiences driving in Chicago were bad enough, I couldn't imagine us getting around in Mumbai without someone getting hurt) ... and since international laws tend to look poorly on homocide, we decided against it. In addition, our May-December relationship wouldn't play out well in middle America.
My other to go on the show with a co-worker at my eye doctor's office. We're both snarky as can be and cute as a button to boot. We even thought of a possible love triangle that could develop since she was married ... to a very handsome doctor. *evil grin* However, we realized that this scenario would play out better on Springer than in the CBS casting room for TAR. *sigh*
I would love to go on the show, but since this will probably be the last season of the show, my dream to be on the show will go unfufilled. Time to focus on dream #2 ... A night with Jim Thome. *evil grin*

Nah, I'm not going to battle over the "TAR Fan #1" thing, I'm just really glad that there'll be a core of us here to discuss the show once it starts.
The timing of the premiere is tricky because they have the Olympics to consider. It was perfect as a summer show last year but I really, really hope they don't put it on Saturday night--that's the kiss of death. It just barely got renewed this year, largely because CBS didn't want to piss off Jerry Bruckheimer. It's an expensive show to make ($1 million + per episode) and due to the nature of it, there's virtually no hope for syndication, where a lot of shows make a majority of their money.
I thought about applying, too. The one friend I had in mine would have been perfect--we'd have balanced out each other nicely--but he has hypoglycemia and we laughed that we'd be in the middle of India somewhere and he'd insist that we pull over so that he could get a turkey breast sandwich, lest he pass out.
I'm really curious to see how many homosexuals they have on this year; they might over-react to The Gays winning last year and not have any. It'd be cool if they had an Asian guy on for once.
As soon as anyone sees offical casting news, post it here, mkay?
bobby78751

If the May 27th debut date is true, AR would be finished in time for the Summer Olympics in mid-August. Also, Big Brother is going to run this summer, too, and that usually goes from early July until sometime in September.

May 27 seems so far off! But in a way it works out because I'll be in Spain early May so will return just in time for TAR! I've been a fan since season 1 too, although I have a really bad memory and never can remember who was who in which season. But I always tell my friends to watch it. I can't wait for it to begin.
But it won't be the same without Jim Allen's recaps! frown

Rumor has it that the show will fall into the Survivor time slot of Thursdays at 8:00 pm
Based on the info about the 6 teams that arrived in Auckland. None of those appeared to be a gay team. So if we have a gay team they may have been eliminated by the time they reach Auckland.
I am just hoping we don't have a huge group of alpha male teams to contend with. There has only been one female winner in 4 seasons, and Flo is the least deserving reality TV winner ever, except maybe for Vee from Survivor.
If I see anything about a cast announcement I will post it here ASAP!

Thanks for explaining why you got banned from TWoP, JimA; I'd been wondering, but it's really not my business.
I agree with you that it's nice when their recapper actually likes the show s/he's recapping, but on the other hand if it's kind of a crappy show and the recapper plays to its crappiness (hello, Smallville? I'm looking at you), then that can be entertaining.
And, yes, their boards are heavily moderated. That said, it clears out all those ridiculous people who just post, "Eeeeeeee! Reichen+Chip 4eva!" and don't bring anything else to the board. Most TWoP posters are actually thoughtful, literate, and coding-capable. And funny as hell.
Um, topic? Eeeeeee! TAR's coming back! (Ahem...)

No one said there was no eye candy, just that 6 teams were seen arriving in Auckland around the same time and none of those 6 were all male teams. I am not sure if these teams are the final 6 teams, as we do not know when production started for this season.
For all we know these 6 teams could be the last 6 teams arriving, and this could be the first leg of the race. Who knows.
I was just excited to get this info and wanted to share with my fellow outsporters. As long as we don't have another Flo

I will be a happy camper with the season.

And thus hundreds of message board threads on TAR/reality TV boards will never be born, ones that are variations on "Are they gay? Are they lovers?".
OK, Flo was bad. Beyond bad. Another level of bad. But as a recapper, she was GOLD. Virgin Millie, on the other hand, was almost as whiny without the psychotic streak in her to actually make her interesting. I was cheering at the TV when they got eliminated.
The start of this thread has me really excited about the show again.

Oh, yeah. No male same sex teams on TAR 5? Blasphemy! I love TAR. Well, I love the male candy they usually have on TAR--and, for a reality show, this one actually is very interesting. I assume that's due to the nature of the show itself.

Woops, forgot about this thread. eek!
I think the July 6 start date sucks raw eggs. It'll totally clash with the Olympics. Not that I'm going to watch much of the commercials/up-close-and-personals with someone who overcame asthma that they had at age 3/relentless flag-waving anyway, but still.

Stupid, whiny, quitting beyotches. AND they lied about the airport incident. f**k 'em, they deserved what they got. As did the Guidos, for their bus station hubris. The TAR Gods are fair and just and wise.
A few changes for the new season: QUOTE
Both series also promise new twists this time around. For instance on \"Race,\" during non-elimination weeks, the team that finishes last will be stripped of all their money as well as deprived of any starting cash for the next leg of the race.
I'm going to call this The Momily Rule: Never, Ever, Give Up. I like this rule; it'll prevent people from slacking, and since the producers aren't going to abandon them penniless in Southeast Asia or wherever, no harm, no foul.
QUOTE
Another change will be the addition of a \"yield\" component, which will let each team (only once during the race) slow down someone who's closing in behind them
I'm mixed about this. It's a little too close to
Survivor-type stuff for my taste. It'll add some strategy though.
Still almost three months to go. Jeebus.

I don't think the "yield" rule is too Survivor-y, JA. Chances are, teams choosing to use it would use it to slow down whichever team is running up their tailpipe, not a team farther back in the chase whom they might not like just to be hateful. Still, "reality show contestant" is a genus impossible to figure out or predict.
All that said, don't The Exposition Hands have enough to do already, what with the Roadblocks, Detours and Fast Forwards? Phil's gonna have a lot of 'splainin' to do.

My ex and I used to talk about being on Survivor or the Amazing Race. He would be a natural at Survivor, and I would be the first to get voted off. I have this unfortunate tendency to like things done a certain way, I'm sure it would quickly irritated the fellow Survivors.
The Amazing Race is a different story. I thought we would have been a great team for that show. The producers would have loved our constant bickering. But, between my sense for organization, his sense for getting along well with people, and our combined "lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way" attitude, we might have won.

Have you tried The Price Is Right? I've went to that show twice. Most recently last December. I don't think I fit the demographic they are looking for. I'm a white, 40 year old man. Your chances are much better if you are a minority, or if you are a member of the military and wear your Class A's.
By the way, when I was in the Army I HATED to wear my Class A's at ANY time. There would be no way I would wear them when I was on my own time, and certainly not to a game show. Guess that's why I have no fancy prizes to brag about now.

Phil is looking quite dapper on the CBS website.

I've always wanted to go to Australia & New Zealand ... beautiful scenery, beautiful weather, and most importantly ... lots of hunky men in speedos, but the 24 hour plane trip and the $1200+ airfare are the major deterrants.
As for the show, I'm looking forward to seeing the contestants and matching the spoilers to the faces. Lots of spoilers abound and unlike what has happened on the Survivor thread, I'll keep the URL to myself.

Just picked this up off the 'net:
* * * * *
CBS has picked up the *sixth* season of the Emmy-winning reality show The Amazing Race, and the show's fifth season won't even premiere until July. CBS reportedly greenlit "Race 6" at the end of March, barely a month into production of "Race 5."
Bertram van Munster and Jerry Bruckheimer executive produce "Race" in association with Touchstone Television. Variety says news that "Race" has been ordered for next season is a sign network executives are pleased with how "Race 5" turned out.
No decisions have been made about when "Race 6" will air; midseason or summer 2005 are the most likely options.

It is actually a vote of confidence for the show. CBS knows that ratings will be low on a Saturday night, so they are intentionally scheduling low cost reality programming and reruns of their crime dramas. TAR will be airing both this summer and in the fall, previously you had to wait until the following summer for the show to return.
