Joss Whedon is staking his claim to another female superhero. Warner Bros. is on the verge of lassoing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind to write and direct the studio's long-gestating Wonder Woman feature film, TV Guide Online has learned. The almost-done deal comes just two months after Whedon announced that he was getting out of the TV biz to focus on making movies, beginning with his forthcoming Firefly flick, Serenity. Meanwhile, there's no word on who Whedon may tap to fill Lynda Carter's satin tights, but I'm going to go out on a limb and throw Sarah Michelle Gellar's name into the mix. (Yes, this is how rumors get started, folks.)
Whedon is an inspired choice for this assignment. What he did with Buffy and Angel on relatively shoestring budgets makes me believe he'd be terrific with a Hollywood stidio sized budget. And Gellar would be a great choice. She's proven her box office worth with The Grudge earning over $100 million. Could be fun! I suspect that Whedon and Gellar wouldn't work together again anytime soon though. There were too amny reports of friction on the Buffy set for there not to be some ring of truth to them.

Angie Harmon
Angie Harmon should be Wonder Woman, hands down, but rumors had it she hated "working" on Law & Order, so one can imagine working with a physical* director like Whedon would make Harmon wilt.
My other recommendations:
1. Kiera Knightly
2. Annabeth Gish (hey, she did federal agent pretty damn well on X-Files)
3. Eliza Dushku
* (note: many if not most Buffy episodes took 7 t o 8 days to shoot, which I still don't understand; some of the fight scenes were rather elongated and very, very physical, too, so you better believe Wonder Woman will be kicking some serious ass...)

Rumor has it that Joss and Sarah Michelle had a sour relationship on Buffy so I'd rule her out. Kate Beckinsale. She dresses as Wonderwoman for Halloween and looked the part.
Angie Harmon would not be my choice. She's doesn't look athletic enough and besides that, she (and her over-rated husband)are big-time Bush supporters!
Get Angelina Jolie some blue contact lenses and she could be Wonder Woman. Catherine Zeta-Jones looks exactly like the Wonder Woman drawn in the JLA comics book series.

I think Hillary Swank would do great

We should probably rule out actresses that are already associated with major heroines. Jennifer Garner would have been a good pick, but Elektra is about to hit the screens (yay, by the way!). Angelina Jolie would be super hot, but I think she's got one more Laura Croft movie. Lucy Lawless would be a sentimental pick for me, but she'll always be Xena.
We've talked about this role a few times on the board. I think Vanessa Williams has come up. She might be closer to the Queen Mother's demographic but would look good on the throne of Paradise Island. I'd say the same for Zeta Jones.
You guys have mentioned some good, young candidates. Eliza Dushku has worked with Joss Whedon already as the "other" slayer and could be a great pick. Keira Knightly has got some credible action toughness if she can overcome the whole British thing. I love Kate Beckinsale but I think she may have too dark or broodish of a perception to be popular in the role. Hilary Swank? Maybe. Especially if her new boxing movie goes over well. Did you all know Swank played a supporting role in the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie?? Cameron Diaz could bring some camp to the character and has a bit more star power than the other new girls.
It will be interesting to see if this movie finally gets made. They've talked about it long enough.

Lucy Lawless....she has HUGE thighs, something the WW costume could never hide. Plus she's a bit too old at this point. I think if it gets done, they'll go with an unknown. Very few "stars" would go for the costume which is basically a red white & blue bathing suit.

Zeta Jone strikes me as too old as well especially if the hope is to turn it into a franchise.

Saw in today's paper they are leaning towards Jessica Biel (TV's 7th Heaven) or, if they decide to amke WW older, Kim Basinger! eek! eek! eek! What is Wonder Woman turning in her Invisible Plane for an Invisible Nursing Home?
Eliza Dushku, Sarah Micelle Gellar, Angie Harmon, Lauren Graham, so many others but Kim Basinger? Come on!

If they choose Kim Bassinger, I may not go see it. I think she's a terrible actress and - even if I didn't think that - she's all wrong for the role. Kim can be Queen Hippolyta. If they're gonna go older, Zeta-Jones is the obvious choice, assuming she'd be willing to do it.
The more I think about it, though, you're right, George ... it should be a younger actress.

Wow...that's about a 25-year difference! What are they thinking? Jessica would be awesome!

Nothing against blondes, but if they made Wonder Woman a blonde don't we run the risk of having another Cathy Crosby flick...I'm just saying...

Figure they have to go unknown, none of the one's mentioned except maybe Eliza or Sarah-Michelle could pull it off. CZJ please no. She already ruined Chicago. Jessica Biel Nah. The other chick that did Dark Angel is going to be Sue Richards(Invisible Girl) in The Fantastic Four. Just not many choices left. Thank god Jennifer Garner already did Electra. It's impossible to watch anything with her anymore her lips take up the whole screen.
Eliza would be great, she was great on Buffy

Hey, that's not a bad idea at all! Wonder Woman should be so lucky.
For anyone who hasn't heard me say ... Lucy Lawless based her portrayal of Xena on Gaby Sabatini. She wanted to be strong, athletic, and yet have an element of the feminine and beautiful in her persona as well. She needed look no further than Gaby.
I picked up Wonder Woman Season II on my lunch break.

I watched the season premiere ... it was hysterical. There's one scene where the bad guy unveils a robot and it's basically a guy in some tin foil. I was rolling. Lynda Carter's sincerity in the role really was the saving grace for the show! I'll probably watch another episode after Lost tonight. You can only take 'em one at a time. lol.

You know I ran out and bought Season Three IMMEDIATELY. ha ha.
Last night, I watched "My Teenage Idol Is Missing," which is one of the worst episodes ever but also one of the most famous. I watched it with Lynda's commentary, which made it more interesting.
I'm very excited to get to the one with the ant lady - that one was one of my favorites as a kid - and to see the one with Roller Skate Wonder Woman. The last two episodes about the disfigured guy who lives underneath the roller coaster always creeped me out as a kid. I remember him being so scary!

Also, read a rumor that Katie Holmes is now being bandied about as the new Wonder Woman. I sure as hell hope not. I think it's just from something somebody asked her at a press conference for Batman Begins, but she's all wrong!

....Gheesh, where does Hollywood, get their casting ideas from ??
Hmmmm...and now that I think about it...how odd is it that I saw the Wonder Woman DVD on amazon.com, and I thought of this thread?....Is this webpage an addiction or what?

oh man, I hope not, she has no chest at all to fill that costume out. Probably why Toms likes her so much, no chest, taller than him, give her a strap on and Toms in love...ok I may have gone too far there.

What's scary is that I've actually seen that photo before, although I don't know when or where. But once you've seen something like that, you don't soon forget it!!!
I got to the episode with the ant lady - Formicida - last night. It was so cheesy, but in a good way. The tv show Wonder Woman didn't often fight super villians like Batman and Superman do. I never really thought about that until I was watching last night.

Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
and the power you possess.
In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.
Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.
Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned on you.
And the magic that you do.
Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fall,
Change their minds, and change the world.
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You're a wonder, Wonder Woman.

Wonder Bread Woman!
A new superhero. With her faux Coach bag, Gaultier inspired corset and sensible shoes, she is out there to save the world by eating all the carbs out of this world, one sandwich at a time.
