Can somebody please supply this "24" addict with a brief synopsis of last night? I totally spaced out my normal routine of recording the show. frown
shore
Okay, what happened? Show opened with Mahwan at The Hub, the nightclub from last weeks ending. We got that information because Jack used force with Provo (whatever his name was) against the new President's orders. The pres's support staff tried to push him to make a decision, but could not do so. So Jack took it into his own hand. Got the information. They move to the Hub just as the President learns that the Provo had had force used against him. learned taht it was Jack who went against his order, and The Pres ordered Secret Service to arrest Jack immediately. They arrive on the scene, after Jack had been warned of their coming, just as Jack finds Mahwan, having used a remote camera in the duct work of the club. Over the phones between the SS and Jack it becomes clear that Jack must give himself up immediately adn as he calls in a replacement, the replacement is seen by Mahwan's men moving toward the building. Their cover is blown, Mahwan knows they are there and orders everyone to leave immediatley. In the meantime, he was in the process of making a video explaining why what had happened ont this day had to happen--a pretty chilling scene, very scary really. jack and his men rush the Building, Mahwan and his men escaped through a dugout tunnel in the basement but not before Jack shoots the man with the videotape. As Jack goes through the tunnel he sees a bomb, calls "Bomb" runs out of the tunnel just as it goes off and seals the tunnel and makes it impossible to follow.

In the meantime, in Iowa, the nuclear warhead has arrived at a site where is it being fitted iwht a microchip to control it's operations. The man in charge of fitting the chip, a new character, recieves a phone call from his grilfriend who wants to know where he is. She calls him on his lying, he assures her he is doing nothing wrong, nothing associated with the activites going on today. But she had found information on his computer which leads her to believe otherwise, and when getting of the phone with her beau, calls the police who hook her up with CTU. The she finds Chloe who verifies her information. And learns the the info she is giving them about her beau connects him to Mahwan and the nuclear warhead.

In the meantime, the new president is having a major breakdown. His chief of staff isvery worried, as is everone. A call is made to former president Palmer who agrees to meet with the president.

Back to Chloe, as this is the major story line, she is directed to go to the girlfriends house to get the information becuase she is the most qualified and it's the most efficient way to get the information. she is reluctant but goes with two security guys. She doesn't know that the man overseeein the nuclear warhaead re-fitting project has told Mahwan that the boyfriend had compromised the situation becuase of his girlfriend, so Mahwan says he will take care of the girlfriend. So when Chloe arrives at the end of the show, she and the girlfriend start looking at the computer programs and hear shots fired. Agents dead. Shots fired at her and she and the girl run into the laundry room where they barricade themselves until she can call CTU for backup. Backup is 15 minutes away, the man is shooting down the door, and the girls escape through the window. The run to the agents car that brought her there but there are no keys, althought the car is unlocked. It's bullet proof which is fortunate because he starts shooting at them. Chloe calls CTU, everyone jumps on helping her over the phone and tell her their are weapons in the back seat. But the cage is locked, so CTU had to search the files for the combination while Chloe and the otehr girl sit in the car and the killer is starting to ram their car with his. Very intense. She gets the combination, reaches in for some motherf**king bigass gun and starts shoooting like a pistol packing mama. It was so excellent.

I was breathless most of the episode.

I think the acting President(Vice President) gave a great imitation of how W reacts in crisis situation. Maybe they should call Clinton to the White House to advise W.

just started watching the show religiously this season. i don't understand the relationship between edgar and chloe...there seems to be a friendly rivalry between them. i'd be pissed if chloe went over my head like she did to edgar last night. yet he was sympathetic when she was showing her fearful side enroute to see the girlfriend. is this consistent with how these two characters interact?
hockeyTom
Shore: thank you for the most excellent update. I appreciate it!
Marc
Just finished watching the tape of this week's episode. But I have a couple of questions and comments. Why did Marwan choose the basement of a crowded nightclub to record his "address to the nation"? It seems like a very implausible, risky venue (why not from a cave, Osama-style? biggrin.gif ) Also, the indignation by Audrey and others over Jack's defiance of the President's order not to torture that guy seemed a bit over-the-top. The guy wasn't roughed up THAT badly, and were these critics so naive not to realize that extracting information from him could possibly save thousands of innocent people?

To repeat an earlier question...is Behrooz alive or dead?
George Twins fan
A question I have is actually from last week. The guy that Jack tortured was alone in the parking lot outside CTU when Jack jumped him. Was that his car Jack took him into? If so, how did his car get there? Are we to believe that CTU drove this terrorist suspects car to CTU and left it in the parking lot? Maybe it was Jack's car or another CTU vehicle, but then if the guy's car wasn't there, why did his lawyer leave him to fend for himeself? How was he suppossed to get from CTU to wherever he was going?

George, sometimes you just have to suspend belief and let it go.

Um, no I really don't need to do that. Espeially when I've been asked to do it so many times this season. Certainly I understand that the action genre requires the viewer to suspend disbelief. The implausabilty of Jack's solo rescue missions and such are fine.

But the show's signature is it's real time premise and when people seem to appear quicker than Endora and Doctor Bombay on Bewitched, it's just lazy writing. That said, I'm enjoying this season way more than last. And with Kim gone, I'm a happy pappy.

On another note, the NY Post is reporting that NBC is looking to steal 24 away from FOX. FOX's 4 year licensing deal with the producers of 24 is expiring at season's end.

I think NBC would keep much tighter reins on the violence and what some call racial stereotyping. This, IMO would ruin the show.
hockeyTom
Overall I think this has been another outstanding season of "24". I have only had one or two minor disappointments, but as far as action and tenseness in a tv show, it just doesn't get any better than this.
shore
except last weeks show was the weakest in a long time, the whole paul drama was boring and his wife/Jack's girlfriend crying was horrible acting.
George Twins fan
On that we can agree Shore. I thought Audrey had some real promise at the beginning of the year but her Weeping Widow routine has become really tiresome.

And where the hell is the Secretary of Defense Heller? I miss William Devane.
MIB
The nuclear warhead missile has been launched! Will it hit its target? Stay tuned to next week's episode. Only 2 more episodes to go, too.

Secretary Heller returns next week--with his son, who we find out plays a direct role in what's been happening.
shore
Yeah, the previews really confused and hooked me for next week, especially with all the return of characters. And the episode was really good, a vast improvement over last week. the chinese diplomat was very good. and the capture of manwan was really intense. looking forward to next week.
MIB
So Secretary Heller's son is gay, eh? Interesting little twist there.

And Marwan got away--figures. Will Tony die? Will the nuclear warhead detonate? Questions, questions.

We await the finale next week.
hockeyTom
Just read d little blurb about Chloe in this weeks edition of TV Guide. She will definitely be back for next season. Bravo!! Good choice. I guess she is really in demand. The article also said that other than Chloe, the producers aren't too sure just yet who will be back for sure next season, other than Chloe for now.
George Twins fan
Either this show is becoming way too predictable or my intuitive powers have gotten stronger. I knew the son was going to wind up being gay. I didn't see the menage-a-trois angle but the gay part just seemed really obvious to me.

And I knew there was going to be an attack on the caravan after they caught Marwan as soon as I realized it was Agent NoName and Agent Anonymous were the ones escorting him. And I knew Tony was going to be jeopardy as soon as he had that "Let's leave this job and start over" speech with Michelle and then Jack was forced to take Tony with him after he'd asked for Curtis to go with him. I actually thought he was going to die. But maybe my intuitive powers were off by a week.

Glad to see William Devane back.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

Have we seen the woman who took Tony hostage before? She looked familiar to me. I thought she might be the woman who shook hands with President Palmer two seasons back and poisoned him in an assasination attempt.
hockeyTom
Geroge, now that I think about it, you may be right about that woman. She does look like the one that shook hands with Palmer. I guess we will know more by the end of next week. Good eyes bud.

Well, we knew he was holding back something when they let him go. But gay..., c'mon. More pandering to the demands of the audience (Chloe - CTU analyst by day/cold blooded killer by night). PUH-LEASE!

And as with previous seasons, 24 introduces characters in the final hours (boo hiss).

The only other loose ends, I can remember, is we never say Farooz exucuted and doesn't Edgar have some pertinent information on an "hourly" disk he never got to (back in the Erin Driscoll days)? Whatever became of Lucas Haas character?

Still my favorite show.

That was indeed Mandy, the woman who not only shook hands with Palmer in Season 2 but who also was the terrorist on the airplane in the beginning of Season 1.

Strong are you with the Force. Into the future you can see.

Has anyone noticed that Heller's son is played by the same guy who plays Ryan's brother Trey on FOX's The O.C.?

AWESOME! Good eye indeed... and thanks for the info. I try not to read too much of the posts so I can be left with some surprises.

Ok "24" fans tonight is the night for the 2 hour season finale. Already yet. Is it just me, or did this season just fly by?? I can't wait to see what happens, and who is out and who is in. Bring it on!

It totally flew by! Thank you FOX for bringing us a totally uninterupted season of "24." This formula must be paying off since they'll be starting season 5 in January.

See ya'll on the other side.
Keith

the first hour of the finale was incredible, even the soapy love thing, but this missle blowup was very anticlimatic. I must say I gasped when the CTU agent was taken to the black vehicle to go away (avoiding more specifics in case no one has seen it yet).
George Twins fan
The best part about the first hour was the woman who abducted Tony making him strip! Tony bound and gagged and shirtless! Who cares if the missile hits!
shore
GTF, I agree. That was a very hot scene, very erotic and I thought the producers had done it just for me. Glad you enjoyed it too.
hockeyTom
Tony is quite hot. Need a firehose to put out my fire! eek!

Great finale...knew it was going to be 2 hours, but didn't realize it would start an hour earlier and missed first 15 minutes. They needed to have Tony running around in his boxers more often....WOOOF. I have never gotten into S & M but Tony in handcuffs would spark my interest.

There needs to be one more episode to tie up the loose ends:

What happened to Behrooz and his momma Dina? We heard the gunshot but never saw her body.

What about the real President of the US? Ok, he is recovering from the plane crash, but Jack always recovers rapidly from his injuries...why can't the President?

What was the reason for the story line with the real President and his son on Air Force One before it was shot down? We knew that his wife had died and felt guilty about not spending enough time with his son (who was a hunk). And then there is a crash, dead son, and no more spoken lines for the President.

Who is Mandy and why does she keep popping up (Palmer's handshake, terriorist coordinator this year). And who called her to inform her that the presidiential pardon was acceptable? How did that person get access to the pardon?

Finally, why didn't Palmer just bitch slap the vice presidient/acting president at the end?
Boltergeist
All I have to say about the season finale was whoa. IMO easily the best 24 I've seen (I started midway thru the 2nd season), and already can't wait til next January.

From the little clip at he end where in the first season he saved a man, the second, a city; the third, a country; the fourth, the world; I think the 5th will be saving himself. Chloe, Tony, and Michelle will probably be helping him in some way (to go after Logan), I imagine as none of them are with CTU anymore, but that's my spec.
MIB
OK, maybe I'm alone in this belief, but IMHO, Jack Bauer should die. The show may be better for it if his character is finally removed and replaced by someone else.
George Twins fan
I wouldn't hate it if they killed off Jack. Frankly I find his voice to be really annoying. The problem is that 24 is now a flat-out hit and killing off the star of the show would be a very risky move. It'll be interesting to see how they handle his situation next sesson.
MIB
I'm just curious, George, to see how they keep the series as intense as it has been.
Keith
I really enjoyed season 4 but the ending did have me feeling sorry for Audrey (damn these human emotions... ). Tony's shirtless scene (and the binding) made up for Kiefer staying covered up all season.

I hope they don't turn it into "The Fugitive"

My guess is he'll start off by visiting Kim (and Chase), probably with child, and then he'll be dodging the Chinese consulate for a bit. At least until they can get him back to CTU.

Dear Producers of 24,

If this scenario is even in the realm of possibilites, please let it be one the things Jack does before the next 24 hours begin. If Kim appears on my TV screen next season (with a baby no less) I swear I will become the next international terrorist that Jack will have to hunt down.
MIB
Simply put, George, they should then be shot. tongue.gif
