I started receiving XM last fall. I LOVE IT! not only are the comercials gone, but I live in a semi rural area where I lose antenea station signals every time I go over the next hill. XM just keeps playing uninterrupted.
My favorite channel is XMcomedy 150. They don't edit anything, and I drive to where I'm going laughing my ass off.
I think it's great, whatever kind of music I want, crystal clear, is right there for me to listen to!

Satellite Radio Static QUOTE
Sam Whitmore, 01.23.04, 8:46 PM ET
I love radio. Thirty years ago I was a pimply-faced kid spinning polka records every Sunday morning on a 500-watt AM station in Danvers, Mass. I'd love to believe in those brave, ambitious companies, Sirius and XM Satellite Radio. But after two days prowling the floors of this month's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and after scrutinizing the most recent Sirius and XM 10-Q statements, I can't help thinking satellite radio soon will look more like Skylab than the skyrocket we've been hearing about.
....
There are great places for satellite radio. Trucks. Yachts. Vacation cabins. A buy-and-hold portfolio isn't one of them.

When I bought XM it was the only one with a portable boom box that makes it cool for carrying around the house or in a park. Sirius is said to be coming out with something similar.
The Sirius boombox is displayed at their website. I found it online at Crutchfield.com and ordered it. We'll see now if I can actually get their signal or not. wink

Joe, I have posted about my appearance on OutQ. You can go to
the Sirius OutQ Web site and connect to the show via the links there. Sure, call up and say hi - lots of NFL talk the last month.
Hey, Cyd--are you going to be on their station anytime this week? Since I'm home from work this week I could call in. wink

And the answer is....yes!
As long as the antenna is by a window in my kitchen...too far from where my stereo is! eek! So it's a good thing I didn't try getting the home docking unit to hook up to the stereo.
So the boom box is on a shelf in my dining room, with the antenna going out to the kitchen. The antenna's cord going from the boom box to the kitchen looks ridiculous, and when I'm upstairs and want to change stations I'll have to get up out of my chair to do it, but for now I don't care. It works and I'm happy.
I may try it in my bedroom at some point (the windows face the same direction as in my living room, which is in the opposite direction from the kitchen) to see if I can use it in there...though I wouldn't want to keep carrying it upstairs when I go to bed, now and then I wouldn't mind.

Well, I finally broke down and bought satellite, after browsing many times at Best Buy. Although I was looking forward to Howard Stern, I went with XM because they had a package that you got the car hardware free if you bought the home stuff. Also, since I don't have a stereo receiver, I needed to buy a boom box. The boxes for Sirius sounded sooo crappy. But the XM box, looks like a grey bowtie, has a great sound.
I'm happy with XM. The bluegrass, Broadway, and comedy channels are my favs so far. The one comedy channel that plays the older comedians, like Youngman, Diller, Dangerfield, et al, is wonderful, real pros.

I have XM and I love it! I don't know about other cities but the radio "personalities" in Detroit never shut up.Between the gabbing, the commercials and playing the same song 50 times a day,I have had enough of regular radio. On XM I mostly listen to a station called Chrome. It plays a lot of the old disco music as well as some dance classics.

I listen to Sirius. Though I like the commercial free music, I am a talk radio and news junkie, and I got a lot of choices with Sirius compared to regular radio.

For those who may be interested, Yamaha has a couple A/V receivers that are XM ready, so all you need is an antenna. The two model numbers I recall off the top of my head are the HTR-5790 and the HTR-5990, the latter being a THX receiver.
Also, there is a great XM receiver that you can hook up to your existing A/V receiver. It's the Polk Audio Xm tuner. Click
here to check it out. I bought it and am very happy with it. One of its nicest features is that because you connect its video cable to your A/V receiver's video in, you can view a bunch of info on your TV.

Okay this might be a dumb question, but does Sirius offer a "walkman" type radio? I want to get it so I can hear Howard Stern, but I usually like to go to the gym in the morning and listen while I work out.

They're supposed to be coming out with something like a walkman but I don't see it at the Sirius website yet -- but whether or not you could pick up the signal depends on where you are. I don't think it would work very well in a gym -- maybe if you're near a window facing in the proper direction and if there aren't large buildings blocking the satellite signal...

I agree with JIP about the signal. When I use XM in my car, it generally works great outside, but the minute I enter the garage at my apartment, the signal cuts out. I'm sure Sirius would have the same results. Might be more annoying than enjoyable when working out.

Hi, I may be one of the few dorks who actually have both XM and Sirius. TIce in regards to the walkman type device I just read that one is coming out in October but it wont be like the XM models that can play live you will have to record stuff but its recording capacity is larger than the XM models, in which I have the Pioneer Airware also have a delphi skyfi. I love XM 81, 8, 16, 83 and on SiriusI like 66 and OutQ 149 but as of this thursday alot of the stations are changing numbers.

Has anybody tried the new Sirius portable device the Stilletto? I was interested in getting it but I have doubts about the reception. I want to use it to listen to Howard Stern in the morning at the gym or at work.

Here's what
cnet.com had to say, GTF. (Side note: The review is made by the recently deceased James Kim. God rest his soul.) My B/f has the "older" version of this and I do think the headphone are quite clunky in order to receive the live broadcasts. It doesn't have its own internal satellite antenna but it can connect via a WiFi connection to the internet for programming.
