Has anyone else bought this magazine, yet? I saw a story about it on Headline News over the weekend and went out and bought it. It is now my favorite magazine. smile.gif Of course, it's all about shopping.

I bought it because I went to see my parents this weekend and got it at the airport. I'm a sucker for anything new from Conde Nast.

It's okay. I've know about it for a while and I expected they'd have some humor in it, and it didn't. I guess these guys are really earnest about their consumerism.

Bummed that they're not using real models. All this real-guys thing (by which I mean using non-professionals) is annoying considering that even amazing looking male models have a hard time getting enough work. And they can cast for a regular guy effect by just getting older male models who have a regular look. And there are tons of non-editorial type models as it is.

The cell phone feature was helpful cause I need to get a new one. Had a good layout. Would have been more helpful if they did a consumer reports type evaluation. I guess they can't be trusted to do this, as there's the risk they face of having to trash their advertisers/the risk we face of having them promote crap just because it's an advertiser.

How about the creative new way to do a sleeve roll-up, though (page 64)? That is crafty. smile.gif Some people are calling this the male-version of the girly-shopaholic-mag LUCKY Magazine.
TomFord
That's exactly what it is. It's the same publisher, and that's exactly what they planned: a male version of Lucky. I don't know why I find that comical.

If it's a hit, get ready for a teen shopping version.

Attention shoppers! The new issue is on sale this week!

I think the magazine is shooting for an older, more educated demographic than wanting it to be "the male-version of the girly-shopaholic-mag LUCKY Magazine"

That's the only way other press knows how to pitch the idea, but that doesn't mean it's how Cargo wants to be identified. Of course, they need to PR the hell out of what they ARE in order to transcend their current, limiting tag.

I subscribed a while ago and I think it's kinda cool. Refreshingly UNhomophobic (yet) and lacking most blatant forms of sexism. I did find some evidence of fresh thinking and creativity, too (e.g., some of the fashion layouts, like the one with all the guys standing around casually sans "action" or "sets")

I'm still trying to figure out the "Does this make me look gay" feature, though.

I think someone should come out with a gay equivalant of Seventeen or Bop magazine.

bobbynumbers: There was a "Does this make me look gay" feature? In the first issue, or second?!?
bobby78751
The "Does this...make me look gay" column is in both of the first two issues. I picked up the new issue last Thursday on my way home to Tennessee. I'm back in Austin now. smile.gif

Hate to tell you but that ain't so new - been doing that for years. I have always been the type of guy to leave my cuffs unbuttoned because I like the reckless feel of it. I also hate feeling hemmed in. When I get warm, I roll up my sleeves pretty much as they described in the mag, but the real trick is to not let it get too "studied" otherwise you look like you're trying too hard. I know because I have had that reaction seeing it on myself sometimes. It works best with linen shirts since the shirts have that look anyway.

Meanwhile, I too am trying to figger out the "does this make me look gay?" feature. I think it's tricky because there are those straight fashionistas who will read way too much into it, and take it too seriously.

So I'm paging through the latest Men's Fitness magazine this a.m. -- and see an ad for \"Sly Magazine\" -- yep, you guessed it -- by Sylvester Stallone -- but for whom??? Yikes!

btw -- the premiere issue will have a sneak peak at "Rocky VI". what the?? sad.gif

btw 2 -- speaking of Cargo magazine, I bought a subscription early on ($8 for the year) to have something to read while on the elliptical -- then leave it at the gym when done. As opposed to other magazines I read and leave (Men's Fitness, Men's Health, Vanity Fair), which are snapped up by others and disappear within a day, Cargo stays in the magazine rack for weeks. As it should. What a waste of paper.

I got a subsciption for my brother. But it was really a christmas present for his wife. He's pissed because he wanted to get FM, Maxim or the other guys magazine that has a small section of gadgets but mostly soft core shots of babes!
Cargo is all gadgets and no women! It was a joke between his wife and I.
Mariner Duck Guy
Since I love, gadgets and shopping, I adore Cargo. It's one of the only magazines where I go back to re-read. Plus, they give you those stickies so you can use it on magazines like Sunset to mark your favorite recipes. Comes in very handy.

I found a new moisturizer/skin care product via the last Cargo issue and I also found a pair of shorts that I want to purchase for this upcoming spring/summer.

MDB I thought I was the only person who used those little post it stickers in other magazines! biggrin.gif

Great minds think alike!

My partner loves this magazine for all the tech toys. I like it more for the clothing. If the magazine stays with the current format, I imagine we will become longtime subscribers.

I must be a miserable failure as a gay man, because I absolutely HATE shopping.

I mean, other than grocery shopping, or going to buy the occasional DVD, I avoid malls whenever I can. Even when I go grocery shopping, I make a list, so that I am in and out of the store as quickly as possible.

But then, I have no colour sense, hate show tunes, have no decorating sense, and think Diana Ross is a bitch, so maybe I should turn in my toaster oven.
