Does anyone know if an attempt was made to made this movie with Fallon and Rachel Dratch? Their skits of them being the sterotypical Boston residents and rabid Sox fans is hilarious! Why would they still cast Jimmy Fallon in a movie about the Red Sox, but as a different character and with Drew Barrymore?

My understanding is that this is an Americanized version of a Nick Hornby ("About a Boy") novel that centered around a British sports nut. Jimmy Fallon is not reprising a SNL role. I believe the Farrelly Brothers ("Something About Mary") are behind this one.

Besides, if they want it to be profitable they're much better off with Drew Barrymore than Rachel something-or-other. wink

I'm torn about seeing this movie. I like Drew Barrymore and I would soooo do Jimmy Fallon, but I don't need to see all that Red Sox stuff thrown in my face again.

I know Jimmy Fallon isn't reprising his SNL role, but I was curious as to why, if there's a reason, why not? If I was to make a Red Sox movie and Jimmy Fallon was going to star in it, I wouldn't make up a new character and cast Drew B. in it, I would use a character already in existence that is played by Fallon, with the approval of Big Lorne that is.....cuz you gotta admit, being from Boston, those skits are too funny LOL

You may have found the skits funny but all the other SNL character base movies that are Hollywood roadkill and box office disastersproves they probably made the right call. Sure some of the SNL movies have been successful but the vast majority of them have been complete disasters. The Coneheads anyone? It's Pat? Superstar (the one based on Mary Catherine Gallagher)? A Night at the Roxbury? For every Wayne's World movie there are countless SNL based flicks that tanked in a huge way.

The book was previously made into a film about "footy" with Colin Firth.

The story is taken from the novel \"Fever Pitch\" by Nick Hornby, based on his true experience as a devoted fan of the perrenial second-run Arsenal football (that's soccer to the US) team. The book was filmed once already--1999's Fever Pitch starring Colin Firth.
