I really loved her show! Did any of you guys see it?

I've already watched it twice. I watched it on my own and then with my bf. He used to say he hated her, but after Celebrity Mole and this, he sees why I think she's so funny.

Her take on "The Squares" and Uma Thurman were two of the highlights of the show.
William1865
She was funny on Seinfeld ("Lay it on me, string bean") and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She's the redhead, right? I like her.
Allen
I've loved her when she did her first 1/2 hour HBO special. It was hilarious!! LOVED IT! I think I was still in high school too.
Joe in Philly
I started watching it the other night and got bored very quickly so I turned it off. I'm not sure how I feel about her. Anyone who goes on "Celebrity Mole" is nothing but pathetic in my book. She seems to revel in that stuff, though.

She was the perfect voice for Alice on the short-lived "Dilbert" series.
TomFord
Damn, I missed it. The last showing was last night. She's really funny whenever she's on Howard Stern.

Now if only they'd broadcast Sarah Silverman's show.
Aubie In Bham
My partner and I watched it the other night and were crying out-loud. It was absolutely hilarious. Her take on Anna Nicole, "HIIIII" was hilarious.

JIP, you need to watch the whole thing because it truly is funny. Plus, she makes fun of herself for doing Mole..which is why she considers herself a D-list celebrity.
batboy
What I'm wondering about her hilarious bits is whether these things really happened or if she's stretching the truth a bit. (Although I totally can see the Sharon Stone-Rosie O'Donnell bit happening in real life.) But some of the others are too funny to be true. And if they did happen, it's just too funny. (I loved her Little Richie stories!)

That said, I have to admit her final punchline at the end was a bit flat. It needed something more hilarious to keep up with the rest of the routine. Still, I enjoyed it!
George Twins fan
I agree with TomFord. She's a terrific guest on Howard Stern. I also think she'd be really good as a supporting player on a sitcom. But this special was a tad disappointing. Some funny bits, but too many lulls to justify an hour.

Yes, she was Sally Weaver, Susan Ross' college roommate. She did the "Jerry Seinfeld is the Devil" one-woman show.

(Not that I watch Seinfeld much)

She's back!! And she's on Bravo!!

\"D-List\" darling Kathy Griffin will be featured in this unscripted series that will document the comic's life and efforts to keep her career afloat. Each episode will include a portion of Griffin's stand-up act or public appearance, as well as the behind-the-scenes negotiations and preparations that go into each performance. It's an insider's look at the indignities and encounters that can only happen when one is a well-known and under-appreciated comic doing what it takes to make a living.

The series will also feature Griffin's \"peeps,\" who include: her husband, Matt; her assistant, Jessica; her live-in decorator, Mike; her \"gays\" Dennis and Tony; her overworked public relations team; her parents; her out-of-town in-laws; and a host of others who manage to both help and hinder Griffin's quest for fame.
Allen
Finally!!!

Her show starts on August 3rd ... only on Bravo! biggrin.gif

QUOTE
In the original series \"Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List,\" Griffin is living the D-List dream and it's all documented - the ups and the downs - to bring the talented comic's life and stand-up comedy act alive.

Did any of you watch this last night?? It was AWESOME!!! biggrin.gif

I like the fact that she isn't delusional into thnking that she is some mega-star Diva deserving of royal treatment. She keeps saying, "I'm no Nocole Kidman" I say thank God for that!

How boring would it be to follow Nicole Kidman's day to day? Ugh!

Her kabbalah party was a hoot. But her stand up special I laughed so hard. I'm convinced she's a dragqueen trapped in a woman's body.

Anyone remember how she justified Anna Nicole Smith's inheritance of $500million? That if she only had sex with him just once... even if it was just a handjob that she performed while gagging.... she deserves $500million for that one time.
Allen
My favorite was when she said about Oprah and Streisand ... two very strong black women. I just died!!

Her rant about Clay Gayken ... it's so true!! COME ON!! All of us COMBINED are more hetero than Aiken!!

I do have to say ... one of her gays, Tony, is HOT!! biggrin.gif

This coming from a man who owns a Mandy Moore movie?

Don't (w/head bob). Even (w/head bob). Try (w/head bob).

Nancy Grace is another topic for another thread. tongue.gif

I think she's funny sometimes and not so great others. For instance, I didn't think the "two strong black women" joke was funny at all. And her stuff isn't really original ... she basically just dishes on celebs. That said, she's a good storyteller and her imitations are great. Particularly Clay. Everytime she spoke like Clay I laughed and laughed.

She's no Margaret Cho or John Leguizamo in my book, but I did enjoy her special and show last night.
TheOtherFSU
Two hours of Kathy last night, and wow... her stand-up material was some of the best of her career. Hilarious! And the reality show was incredibly funny and much better than I even hoped for.

And yes, her best gay Tony is a hottie. When she was acting as the "greeter" by the door at the Warren Beatty event, I was dying. "Thanks for coming, doctor." "Hello, doctor." Oh my god Kathy is one of those rare comedians who doesn't have to tell a joke to be funny... she just exudes humor in everything she does.

In her stand-up special, the part where she goes off about Oprah's bad rhythm and embarrassing lip-syncing and clapping, was so damn hilarious. And then Oprah doing the bored dog humping! Oh my god. There are painstakingly few comedians who can make me literally double over while laughing, and Kathy is one of them.

I bought \"Saved!\" on DVD early this week and have totally fallen in love with it. I think it's a very charming movie that features very decent performances from its young cast...Mandy Moore and Macaully Culklin included.

Surprisingly deep for a \"teen comedy\" and even more surprisingly well acted.

Very, very charming movie.
Need I say more?!

As for Kathy Griffin, her stuff is NOT original in terms of stand up comedians.......she essentially just tells funny stories about herself. But she tells them very well and they are usually rather funny.
Gaga4Gaby
I can't figure out what "Saved" has to do with this thread ... but you all should not be knocking it. It is a really well done, hilarious movie. The writing is fantastic and Mandy Moore does a terrific job as the self-righteous Christian bad girl. It's a very subversive and yet somehow moving look at organized religion and its effect on society.

I too own it. And I have the best taste of anyone I know wink

I saw both her shows last night, the stand-up special ("I'm not Nicole Kidman" - or the hanger with a head, as Kathy calls her) and the reality one, loved them, verry funny.
batboy
I had a class last night so taped the special but came home in time to watch the premiere of her reality show. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. She's not so funny off stage. Yeah, she's still like her stage persona but without her doing the funny routines, it's just watching her beg for free stuff! I rather watch her stand-up, where she's totally hilarious in her first D-List special. But I guess I'll keep watching her show because her main gays are hot!

By the way, another reality car accident in the making: Hidden Howie as Howie Mandell does his hidden camera routine from the Late Night with Leno to Bravo. Oh. My. Gawd. Kill me now. I can't stand Mandell's hidden camera antics. He's cruel, stupid, antagonistic, and plain not funny. None of his segments that ever aired on Leno got me laughing. He is just plain mean. I can't imagine what it'll be like watching that for a full hour. Bravo, what are you doing?!
Gaga4Gaby
Bravo has definitely changed their image.

I've never seen the Howie Mandell stuff on Leno, but it's safe in my book to say that nothing on Jay Leno is ever funny. It's Letterman or nothing for me.

You ain't just whistlin Dixie! I remember when Bravo used to be just classical music and arts/culture related stuff. Now it's become the defacto gay network for NBC/Universal

I cannot WAIT to see what happens at the Christmas Party. I wonder if any of those Marines hook up w/ any of the gay guys at Kathy's party?

Laughed my ass off! Very funny stuff.

I watched for a few minutes last night

pretty funny stuff

I've always liked her
aquaman
Watched it last night for the first time. I am hooked. It makes me wish I had TiVo. frown
Gaga4Gaby
They've been running the stand-up alot. Everytime I stumble upon it, I must listen to her talk about Clay. And I laugh hysterically each time. I think her imitation of him is so dead-on. My favorite stuff are just the little moments when she talks like Clay. Fog and Felvis are pretty damn funny, too, though.

I'm not sure I'd like her in person, though, judging from the reality show. She's funny, but all the groveling for free shit gets on my nerves and she seems to have a mean streak to me. I did enjoy listening to her talk about all the horrible food she likes to eat. I could relate to that!
Allen
Here's what happened last night, sorta, from Kathy's #1 Gay, Dennis!! biggrin.gif

Okay, the blog is REALLY funny.

However, I am wondering ... do you think maybe Dennis or even Tony, Kathy's gays, read this at all? I mean, you know ... some of the comments made here by some of us actually get back to Kathy?

Just wondering ... smile.gif
TheOtherFSU
Kathy's show is totally addicting. Last night's episode was great and it's one of those hours that seems to go way too fast.

I think most celebrities are out for free stuff. That's just the way it is. In fact, I've heard countless celebrities talk about how ridiculous people's priorities are, because they tend to get tons of free stuff as a means of marketing or promotion... now that they can really afford to buy just about anything they want, they are getting it for free. I think Kathy is just one of the very few celebs out there who doesn't mind showing it. I think if we all saw the amount of free stuff given to Oprah or asked for by Oprah, it would be jaw-dropping. Being a D-list celeb, I'm sure Kathy pales in comparison to most.
batboy
Gaga, I agree with you, I can't get enough of the stand up show. I love it when she does the Oprah imitation and when she says "I no being a slave." Oh. My. Gawd. That's too funny. The Clay thing is pretty hilarious too. I like her stand up better than her reality show, although I still watch her reality show.

I think the show is growing on me. I liked last night's episode. The cute guy who was working the party and then got caught flirting with a girl was so hot.

I thought her house looked fabulous. I loved how they put those crystal in the fire place and then had fire on it. Cool.

So how come she was on Suddenly Susan but you never see Brooke Shields at her parties?
Gaga4Gaby
The house is amazing. And that couch she got, I must admit, was sweet.

I thought the guy who was part of the gift bag expo - the one she said was looking like he wanted to kiss her - was gorgeous.

The little cater waiter who was loafing with the girl was cute, yes, but didn't he seem awfully gay? "I told her I'd get in trouble!" I don't know if that girl was gonna get any action or not. Kathy said something about "you can f**k him later," but I think they were sharing make-up tips.
Cyd at Outsports
I love this show. I've never seen her and not been totally entertained. What I love most about her and this whole project is that she has made a living gossiping about famous people - and she gives people a TON of ammunition to talk about her. It's a great gig she's got going.

Watching last night, as she was trying to get a pic with Warren Beatty and praying that Ray Romano would show up at her party, I realized the most endearing thing about her is that she's one of us. She isn't a fake Hollywood actress. Well, maybe her breasts are fake, but she experiences Hollywood much the same way a newbie would experience it - wide-eyed and full of vigor. Makes me homesick for LA
curtj
this show is so funny. i've never been so eager to sit in front of the TV while somone shouts at me.
theodoresdaddy
I loved the Clay Gaykin comments

I was rolling
Mariner Duck Guy
I just finished watching it. Hilarious.

How about her doing that Celebrity Poker thing in Portland, and while the other celebrities had an actual ‘charity’ to play for….her ‘charity’ was FOR HER! I think she is absolutely hysterical, but this whole thing of getting stuff for free (and making her assistants beg for free things) is sort of bizarre?!

The Clay Gaykin shtick was very very funny!
Allen
Okay ... her parents should have their own show. They are hysterical!! My God!! biggrin.gif

Okay ... tonight is the "sketch" episode about her dis on The View.

This is going to be good!! biggrin.gif
TheOtherFSU
I saw both the referenced Tonight Show and The View episodes when they originally aired. Jay Leno is really one of the biggest asses out there in TV today. And Star Jones? A pompous bitch. I've never liked either one of them.

I thought it was interesting how the cameras caught Joy Behar coming backstage... it was pretty obvious that the words about to come out of her mouth were, "Can you believe that bitch Star?," just when she noticed the cameras filming and stopped.

I really like the relationship Kathy and Matt have. They mesh together perfectly (of course this is Hollywood where anything can happen, but they appear more solid than most couples). He seems perfect for her.
batboy
I felt really bad for Kathy after the Jay Leno incident. But I don't understand why she's banned from Ellen?? WTF? Ellen should be supporting people who are free-spirited. I guess maybe Ellen thinks Kathy is "too mean" but still, a comedian should support the free speech of any comedian, I think. Plus, Kathy keeps it clean on TV?

I did like seeing her relationship with her husband Matt. They do seem like they really care for each other and it's nice to see she has someone looking out for her. I'm shocked that no one came to her DVD signings. I would be there at a heartbeat if I lived in the area. I think this weekend I'm going to go out and look for her DVD, Allegedly. I so love her stand up routines!
TheOtherFSU
I thought the same thing about Ellen! I didn't know if Kathy was just kidding or not, but I assume she was telling the truth and that she is, indeed, banned from Ellen. If true, that's ridiculous. I like Ellen a lot... I've seen her twice in person on her stand-up tours, but what really bugs me bigtime about Ellen is that she panders to middle America constantly. When you watch her talk show, it's 99% hetero-focused and she never talks about anything in her personal life, her political views, or anything like that. Personally, I like my comedians to be edgy and on the raunchy side, or at the very least HAVE OPINIONS! Ellen doesn't ever seem to have an opinion on anything other than loving animals.

I was also blown away that her DVD signings were so poorly attended. When she said, "Buy 3 and you get a handjob!," I was dying. I bought her DVD on the very day it was released last fall... I went to the local Best Buy and they only had FOUR copies in the whole store! I guess Kathy must actually be D-list... and I guess that's why I like her so much.
Allen
I think the Grammy episode will be pretty funny. Didn't Kathy and Star Jones worked the runway for E??

That Star Jones is just annoying! She should go back to doing her old show, "Jones & Jury." Remember that one??

I know, I think I said that about Ellen in the Ellen thread. I still love watching her show (she sure has a long summer vacation) but I think it's odd that she's such a prominent lesbian but never says anything about that. And she really caters to middle America like you said.

On the same note, I thought getting too political was the downfall of Rosie. She was so funny in the beginning when she just talked about her kids, but then became too grating when she started to sound all pompous about adoption, etc.

Anyway, maybe Matt's right. Kathy should have her own talk show, although maybe she's just too loud. I just want to see her do her stand up. She should just have more specials. And the other talk show hosts should just invite her and get over it!

She's not doing her stand-up act. She's doing a talk show where the host's job is to chat up celebrity guests promoting projects and generally be pleasantly entertaining to as large an audience as possible -- espeically when it's a daytime show.
WChip
People know she's gay. There can't be a better argument for equal rights for gay people than a gay person who is respected for what she or he does. What she does is show she is funny, caring, and likes to have fun.
