You missed my point about Ellen. I wasn't just referring to her talk show. I've seen her stand-up act a couple of times in person... both times she took audience questions after her act. The last time I saw her, a woman in the audience got up to the microphone and asked her what she thought about Bush and the Iraq war. She refused to answer and moved on. The response from the sellout crowd was a collective groan and it was really uncomfortable. A few people even walked out.
It's hard to really like someone who doesn't take a stand on anything. Ellen has a great opportunity to speak out on her talk show but will never speak up about what she truly believes. I think that's unfortunate. Sure she may last longer on TV but what has she gained in the end? More money? Yeah. More respect? No. So now we know what she is all about. If she really cares that much about what a conservative ma and pa in Kansas City think about her, then she's lost my respect.
OK, now back to the Kathy discussion...

I remember watching the Grammy red carpet telecast when it happened and it was one of the funniest things ever. The E! Network kept bleeping her though so you never quite knew exactly how funny the jokes really were, but they left enough intact. Among the highlights... Kathy posed this question to a fairly obscure rapper, "I think America looks to you for answers, so tell me... who's going to win Project Runway?"

I think Kathy's hilarious, I love her timing.
My only slight disappointment was her reaction to the Leno thing, where she was saying how he said "a before and after" picture...something about being the really attractive girl's friend at the bar.
Her entire act is based upon making fun of celebrities. I just think if she's going to be able to dish it out as harshly as she does, she should be able to take it. Reacting like that just didn't make sense for that reason, and because she's always so willing to make fun of herself, too. Sure, no one wants to be called ugly, but I don't think she can really think for a second that she's some kind of beauty queen, and that she's exempt from being a target.
Man, Clay Aiken must have insulted her in another life, because she really lets him have it. A lot of it is absolutely hilarious, though.

I don't think Kathy overreacted to Leno at all. I thought what he did was cruel. It wasn't comedy.
Kathy indeed does make fun of celebrities as part of her act. However, she doesn't make fun of them when she's sharing the stage with them. Or when she's invited them to an event (unlike Leno who insulted his invited guest, Kathy). Humor is far different when it's in someone's face. Would Kathy call Star Jones a fat pig to her face? No. Would Kathy go off on Oprah while in Harpo Studios? No.
When Kathy presented with Clay at the American Music Awards, she poked fun at him by saying she was still sore after sleeping with him the night before. That kind of joke is funny, and I doubt Clay took offense to her proclaiming him as a heterosexual man on national TV.
Leno's "humor" was not humorous at all.

There are those who would argue that saying something behind someone's back you would never say to his or her face is far crueler than saying something obnoxious. I don't find Griffith's schtick terribly entertaining. I don't find Leno all that funny. Getting indignant about a comedian trying to be funny and failing seems a bit sanctimonious.

Leno was an ass**** towards Kathy - plan and simple. Kathy did a great job on the Tonight Show, however, Jay needs some compassion which he will never figure out.

Kathy Griffin was on Adam Corolla's new talk show on Comedy Central last night. She is auctioning off a concert ticket to see Kelly Clarkston in concert in Las Vegas w/ Kathy and "her gays" on
Ebay. As of right now @ 818a Central Time, the bid is at $5,900.
All proceeds go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Wow, that's shocking about the divorce, considering how she played up her "non-Hollywood-like" marriage during her series.
I was really split about their marriage. At times I thought they really were a sweet couple, but then at times I felt Matt didn't show her as much romance you'd expect from a man in love. Anyway, wonder what she'll do now since he was her business manager. I mean, she can't even get her agent to return her calls!

I finally bought her DVD, Allegedly, and it was just OK. I found her last two Bravo specials more hilarious. The stories seemed more developed. I wonder if it was because the DVD was 90 minutes and I can only take 60 minutes of Kathy? Hmm. Anyway, I still love her. I mean, I am one of her gays.

I saw Kathy live here in NYC on Monday. She's so funny. All that stuff about Gayken, Oprah, Tom Cruise, Lindsay Lohan - it's so funny.
Caught the first episode the following night. Are she and Matt together, or what? Someone told me they got divorced this spring. I couldn't quite follow Kathy's explanation of it.

The divorce is on hold as Kathy and Matt try marriage counseling. Kathy has joked about it but says she has hopes. I think on some level she realizes a lot of folks are rooting for her and Matt to make it work. Maybe that makes a difference.

She's hysterically funny and she's completely established her niche on Bravo and beyond, and for us gays that spells many more laughs...and entertaining the troops in Iraq definitely takes some balls and well, good for her. I really like Michael McDonald - he's a cutie.

Though I can't imagien the troops wanting her to, let's see Barbra Streisand go over there instead of doing another comeback tour where she's going to bilk her fans at $1000 a pop. Imagine Babs in camoflague?
Kathy is a hoot and she scores major points for going over and making the soldiers forget about the hell they are even even if it's just a few minutes. The ABC improv bit was both hysterical and amazing.

"Where my gays at?" - Kathy Griffin to an audiance of US military in Iraq. Priceless
