tuned in to Discovery channel and watched a program about Humboldt squid in the Sea of Cortez. Not only do these "giant squid" sometimes attack humans, but their thousands of suckers are ringed with razor-sharp tiny teeth that make for a most effective killing machine.
After that I watched the History Channel's show on Hitler's sequel to "Mein Kampf," followed by "Foyle's War" on PBS. Just a little light entertainment of a Sunday eve.
Can't remember when I last watched the Oscars and have absolutely no desire to do so anytime soon. But then I also absolutely detest parades, puppets, marionettes, and folk dancing. Any like minded curmudgeons out there???

Watched the new BBC series Marple. A new series based on Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. Last night's episode was based on the book "4:50 from Paddington". As usual, it was a great piece of English drama.
I haven't watched the oscars for many years.

Watched a rerun of "Angels in America" on HBO3, I am constantly amazed by that production, every time I see it I notice something different, learn something new.

I had a nice dinner at some friends' house and we got caught up on each other's lives. The word "Oscar" did not come up once. If I'd been home I wouldn't have watched it either, because this year I just didn't care. I'm turning in my Gay Card today. I never use it anyway.

Cleaned my kitchen and bathrooms, walked the dogs, and then read for the rest of the evening. As I wrote in another thread, I avoid the Oscars out of some strange fear of seeing Gwyneth Paltrow (and I'll add Penelope Cruz.) wink

I tuned out as well. I read about it today and realized I didn't miss much. I've rediscovered an interest in old movie classics of the 50's and 60's, so I ended up watching "Indiscreet" with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Cary Grant was incredibly sexy. He's gonna give my 1st love, William Holden, a run for his money.

Nope, I didn't watch either, I had to work. I saw plenty of ad nausium updates on overnight television...I feel as though I didn't miss a thing. I haven't watched them in years and I would consider it a chore to watch them.

Way to go, Swimmer!
As originator of this thread, and a Master's swimmer, I hereby declare Swimmer as the Winner of the Oscar Alternatives! 1st Runner Up: dwb56, for not only avoiding the Oscars himself but finding like-minded souls who feel likewise! And Honorable Mention to Adam for showing that some of us do indeed have real lives!
N.B.: There will NOT be a similar thread for the NCAAs - viewing is required!

Hey swimmer way to go....show those guys, who's thier Daddy....as a former college swimmer and masters swimmer...I commend your dedication to your sport.
Are you retiring? If you do take some time off, at least when it rains, people around you won't be saying...
"Hey do you smell Chlorine/Bleach?"
Again, congratulations on a great cap off to what sounds like a great swimming career.
