Full Version: HBO deletes gay kiss scene

HBO apparently thinks a kiss between two men in 'The Full Monty' is more distasteful than the usual truckload of violence and gore they air.

If you have HBO, you might consider sending a complaint.

What the f**k?!?

Did the network forget that it also airs/aired Six Feet Under? And Da Ali G Show? And Angels in Friggin' America?

I hate that Entourage show; it's not clever, it's over the top of the top, and it's patently homophobic (there is no irony or satire involved). How they can promote a shit show like Entourage and delete a cute kiss from a great movie is beyond me.

Maybe next season David will start nailing Mena Suvari on Six Feet Under. Cuz, you know, I guess that plays big in (insert Red State here)

Is there a link to anything about this?

HBO's headquarters must be in a red state. frown

Maybe the guys weren't that cute for HBO? I dunno.

I'm puzzled especially since HBO produced "Angels in America".

Are you talking about the movie "The Full Monty"? The original feature in theaters did not have the two gay characters kissing. I get the feeling they did film a kiss but may have been cut by the director/producer at the last minute when it was released in 1997 not by HBO. (e.g.: It's OK to show gay men but not gay men kissing.)

Check out the DVD for a comparison.

I mean, really - this isn't even logical. I'd really love a link to some sort of official "news" story or something definitive from HBO.

I haven't seen the movie in a while but I don't recall a kiss either. And HBO doesn't show edited versions of movies, and has shown plenty of same-sex kissing and more, so this sounds like a false story.

In the movie when it first came out, the two guys (the dorky redhead and the guy with the buff bod) do kiss after fleeing the scene where their rehearsal is interrupted by a cop. They steal sheets off a line and climb into the redhead's house. They then realize their attraction and kiss full-on. I've now seen that scene twice on HBO and they lead up to the kiss but do not show it. It may be because it was being aired in the afternoon but given the amount of violence they show at the same time, I found it offensive the scene was taken out.

I remember the kiss when I watched it on my DVD awhile back and also when I saw the movie in the theaters. I remember because I thought one of the guys were so hot, and the kiss came about very innocently. It wasn't a torrid love scene.

I don't have HBO so I can't vouch for the claims that the scene has been edited to not show the kiss. I find that highly unusual given all the kissing of gay men on cable, and HBO has never been shy about these things. I too would like to see an article confirming this. If some of you HBO viewers are upset about this, maybe you should call the national GLAAD office and have them verify this and then file a complaint. Then maybe that'll generate some news and attention. Or if there are any TV critics out there, maybe you guys can do some inquiries to HBO and find out if maybe the conservative mood in the country has finally hit cable. (By the way, I'm glad today's inauguration is in deep cold because like they say, it'll be a cold day in hell...)

"The Full Monty" is on HBO Comedy's schedule again tonight, so maybe somebody could go on "kiss alert" and see if the scene's been restored.

This sounds suspiciously like a chocolate chip cookie recipe....
