Does this mean Bill Hemmer is gone from CNN?
QUOTE
Bill Hemmer, who has co-hosted "American Morning" since 2002, has decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere, according to the statement.

Yes bobster....
MSNBC must be catching them in the ratings i'd guess.
yes. he is gone. He was offered another position within CNN. But he refused.

I don't like any of those morning 'news' shows. It's like watching a few people have conversations with eachother. There's not a whole lot of news and unless you sit around and watch the show for an hour, you don't come away with a whole lot.
Wish they'd just have news.
Well, I could handle a Thomas Roberts reality show though. wink

That's too bad for Bill. Even though I didn't watch him all the time, he was so pretty to look at in the mornings when I did.
The ratings never caught on so they're overhauling. They reported offer Bill a job as lead White House correspondent. But that's like a step down to go from anchor to correspondent. Anyway, a New York Times article recently says he shouldn't have any problems getting offers because he's a pretty boy with intelligence, and that's a rare breed for anchors. So I expect to see him soon on air for either the networks or maybe MSNBC.

I agree with Batboy here. I wasn't a regular viewer, but watching Hemmer read the news certainly made the mornings more bearable when I did.

Rob is the CNN weather guy...I don't think he is going to give that up to be a chatshow newsanchor.
It's not necessarily a step down to go from morning anchor to Chief WH correspondent. Especially when you're Hemmer and you've been bellyaching about wanting to get away from the anchor desk.
The real reason isn't the ratings as much as a lack of gelling with Soledad. The viewership data reflected poorly for him as part of the morn team. I'm sure he had a fan base and high recognition in the gay male community. But the public in general found him to be bland and with no discernible personality whatsoever.
and Cooper won't be going anywhere soon. (at least for now anyway) his show just got a new producer to see if ratings perf can be improved.

CNN is probably too cheap to spring for air tickets, so probably only people in the metro New York area can enter. Whoopee.

The Official Rules says entry is limited to those zip codes served by Time Warner Cable (which has the same parent company as CNN) and lists all the markets. NYC is one, but since the prize is a trip to NYC, and I see Anderson Cooper in Chelsea pretty regularly, it doesn't interest me.

Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering for a loooong time whether he was a chess player or not.

Are you kissing and telling again, ung? wink
And since this is about CNN, and since I was reading about their new morning show making its debut, I really would be bouncing off the walls with glee if the two anchors with the same last name signed on like this:
"Hiya, American Morning-sters! I'm Miles O'Brien!"
"And I'm Soledad O'Brien!"
(both simultaneously) "No relation!"

maybe yes. maybe no. But for the record. I have never kissed any weather guy.
and as to the cutesy intro on American Morning per the O'briens.... let's leave the too cutesy stuff to Katie Couric and Matt Lauer (even if they hate each other)
With two anchors named O'Brien, you should just pray that they're sober on air.

I'm still waiting for the announcement that HL News is ditching Nancy Grace and the whole Entertainment "News" shows.
Nancy Grace is like watching a freaking soap opera the way she tries to suck people in with the dramatizing music in the background. I hope this is offensive, as much as I hate to say it....but she would fit perfectly on Fox News, not CNN HEADLING NEWS for crying out loud. Can we see real news?? I feel sorry for the Carl British/Australian guy with the shaved head cause he has to put up with her incessant rambling while trying to just report the news.
Likewise, it seems as if Greta VanSustern is trying to match Nancy Grace with her hour long show devoted to the Holloway girl case every single night. The other night she was all worked up cause they got an exclusive look inside one of the bodyguard's house and they showed where he was arrested! Oh my! Is that really news?

Its one of the problems with 24 hour news networks, they tend to get one story and focus on it day after day after day. There is a whole big world out there, spend some money and tell us what is going on in it. If you can't afford foreign correspondents , then pick up feeds from foreign networks. Even if they cover the same story it would be interesting to get a different view point. For instance, what is the Aruban/Dutch perspective on the missing American girl. Not a story I care greatly about but better than hearing Nancy et all carry on about it when they have nothing new to say.

Don't bet on it. The new lineup for HLN on primetime was launched because there was absolutely NO ONE watching HLN on prime time. The only way to attract viewers (and by "viewers" I mean more than 25 people in the entire freaking country at any one time) was to jazz it up.
Hence the line up of Nancy Grace, the entertainment program etc. And the fact is, ratings are up.
Just feel lucky that a coupe of other ideas that were in the works never made it to the air.

I'm going to guess the majority of people previously watching Headline News in primetime were people that are not counted in ratings measurements (e.g. viewers in public venues, hotels, etc.). I know when I used to travel a lot, I would always watch Headline News on in my hotel room.

So much for his grandiose aspirations when he and his agent threw tantrums of how insulted they were.
I guess he decided his dreams of Broadcast Network anchoring were never gonna happen. so he decides to become a reporter for FoxNews. That's to be expected I guess. They have a lot of attractive male lightweight journalists. He'll fit right in.

Hemmer seems a little too.....well......nice to be on Fox News. Will be interesting to see how they use him. They definitely have some hardcore tools as reporters now.....the White House guy is terrible, he looks like he belongs on the news in a market like ohhh Tulsa. And their Pentagon guy looks like he's a bit stumpy.
