I was an avid fan of the early seasons TAR ... FloZac, Blakey-pooh, the Guidos ... *wipes away tear* ... However, I haven't really followed the show since Chip & Kim won TAR over the uber-competitive Colin & Christie in TAR 5. The pretty teams dominated TAR 6, TAR 7 was OK, but when I heard about the Family Edition, *gag* ... I lost total interest.
Point being ... I'm desperately hoping that the show can draw me back this season. The cast is more diverse than the most recent seasons and I'm hoping that they bring back some of the quirks from the earlier seasons like the Fast Forward being available on each leg.

The SeeBS site is finally up. The show premieres September 17th. Damn my computer at work not having speakers, damn it all to hell! I'll have to watch the videos later tonight.
Some of the teasers:
QUOTE
Tom & Terry: This feisty, fun-loving couple has been together for over two years. Their playful nitpicking is constant, but it always ends in shared laughter. Tom & Terry are hoping the Race will prove to them they have what it takes to stay together
Danger Will Robinson! \"Playful nitpicking\" can become, if they actually are a gay team that lasts beyond the first episode, \"shut the f**k up Terry, I'm tired of your shit\" by episode 8. Gawd, another team using The Race as a relationship litmus test. Yeah, traveling 60,000 miles in 30 days to some of the poorest parts of the planet, that's a situation people encouter in their day to day lives all the time. Jeebus.
QUOTE
Bilal & Sa'eed: These best friends have spent years bonding over their love of food, Browns football and their shared Islamic faith.
Wow, Browns fans. I'm sorry, dudes!

Expect many \"So, are you going to blow us all up\" kinds of questions from the resident blockheads, who might be.....
QUOTE
Kellie & Jamie: Don't let their Southern drawls fool you. These former co-captains of the University of South Carolina cheerleading squad
Yes, yes, I know, not all Southerners are bigoted a-holes, but this is TAR and when have they let a good stereotype stop them from a bit of selective editing?
QUOTE
Duke & Lauren: When Lauren told her family that she was gay, her father Duke didn't react well to the news and the two were estranged for several years. Now they are working on rebuilding their relationship and hope that the Race will help them recapture the closeness they once shared
Or: they'll end up not talking to each for several more years after the Race.
QUOTE
Erwin & Godwin: These overachieving, super competitive brothers say they are ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Godwin has grown up in the shadow of his Harvard-educated brother and is eager to show Erwin and the rest of his family that he has what it takes to win THE AMAZING RACE. This Team's love for traveling the world and competing is infectious
My prediction for how long it takes one of them to do a voice over declaring that not all Asian-Americans are math nerds who only study, not do physical things and they're out to shatter that stereotype: by the first commerical break.
QUOTE
Peter & Sarah: Peter and Sarah are both Iron Man competitors who have a long history of teamwork. Sarah recently became the first female with an artificial leg to complete the Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon. Peter works as a clinical prosthetist and travels the country speaking to amputees and consulting for prosthetic legs. Both are out to win and eager to show the world that a disability will not stop them from reaching their goals
My prediction until how long it'll be before I'm sick of Sarah's articifical leg and how she's overcoming it: end of the first episode. My early tip to win it all.
QUOTE
Tyler & James: Tyler & James are not your typical \"pretty boys\"; they've both had their share of hard knocks. After losing track of each other several years ago, they reconnected after going through rehab and have been best friends ever since. They're hoping their newfound lease on life will help carry them around the globe and across the finish line
Blah blah blah rehab blah blah blah rehab blah blah blah we're not just pretty boys blah blah blah. I can't stand these guys already.
QUOTE
Vipul & Arti: Vipul & Arti are the first Indian-American Team to run the Race. Both speak several languages and are well-traveled. Vipul admits to being a bit overzealous, while Arti takes great pride in her ability to reign in his emotions and focus him in on his strengths--a skill she will undoubtedly be forced to call upon while racing around the world
Uh oh, I sense we have our \"Straight dude who reduces his female partner to tears at least once\" team this year. Prediction until how long it takes Arti to scream \"Don't talk to me that way!!!!\": end of first episode.
QUOTE
Dustin & Kandice: Dustin & Kandice met while rooming together at the Miss America pageant. Rivals at first, they quickly became friends and have been inseparable ever since. Kandice is wild and impulsive, while Dustin is religious and more conservative. Their shared trait is that they are both intense competitors who thrive on winning
Oh gawd. Two blondes who it'll be hell to tell who is who. Dustin to get in the Muslim's grill? Duh!
The rest are kinda meh at this point.

Episode 1 Observations (people out West may want to skip since the show is just starting out there.
I have to say that I have missed the show in its best form. The past two installments have not been up to the usual standards. I have high hopes for this round and the first episode leads me to believe this season could be excellent.
None of the teams stood out as really difficult to like. There are several rather bland teams, as always, but nobody who seemed particularly nasty or unpleasant. I am sure that will change as time passes.
I loved the fact they started the show in reverse geography from the normal route map. Seattle to Beijing on the very first day. Nice way to mix it up. The leg as a whole was pretty standard AR fare, but this east to west orientiation actually makes the harder Asian legs come first. Nice change of pace.
Spoiler 1 -- there was a definite twist halfway through the first leg. The foreshadowing was there in the first five minutes when Phil announced there were 12 teams but only 8 elimination legs. Doing the mathc, this didn't really add up. However, the explanation became clear quickly. After completing the first roadblock, the teams arrived at the Forbidden City to claim departure times for continuing the leg the next morning. The last team to arrive (the brothers from Cleveland who are Muslims) was eliminated on the spot from the leg. They didn't even get to complete the first leg! Harsh!
Interestingly, many of the other teams started crying when they realized that the first team was already going out of the race.
The second twist of the leg was the Pit Stop itself. Once teams arrived the Pit Stop, there was no simple spring to the mat. They had to scale the Great Wall of China using a looped rope climb which proved to be quite difficult. It would have been physically tough.
To nobody's surprise, the last team to arrive was also sent packing. The cute Indian married couple (they were very sweet with each other) scaled the wall quickly, but had gotten themselves well behind.
Thoughts on teams:
The Models came in first. James and Tyler were either separated at birth (they look remarkably alike I think) or need to proclaim their love for each other. They will be formidable, but not necessarily a total favorite this early.
The triathletes (Peter and Sarah) were very nice to watch. Sarah has a physical disability and her performance was that much more amazing. I could like them.
I really liked the Lesbian and Dad team of Lauren and Duke. They were very positive (even though he cried at the beginning of the show when teams were announced and they revealed Lauren is a lesbian) and competed well. Father/child teams have not done wll historically, but they could be tough.
Team Mani/Pedi -- I appreciate the diversity in the gay community, but these boys are so stereotypical. They were introduced getting their nails done, and they demonstrated all the stereotypes. Certainly there are other Reichen/Chip type gay boy teams auditioning for the show.
The Cheerleaders seem nice and the Miss american contestants were actually okay as well. Rob is going to be this season's angry heterosexual mate yelling at his woman. The smart brothers (one went to Harvard and the other Berkeley I think) struggled.
Then there was Team Coal Miner's Nightmare. I was rooting for them even though they were true hicks from the sticks of Kentucky. I was pulling for her on the wall when she was struggling to climb up.
I am very optimistic about the season and how it will play out. I hope they visit some new locations and do more interesting things. This is the 2nd time they have been to Seattle, and the 3rd or 4th time they have visited Beijing/the Forbidden City/the Great Wall. We shall see.

I would agree about the likability factor, thus far anyways. Its hard not to dislike anybody at this early point....the eating of the fish eyes was rather disgusting. No way would I chew. I think I would have had a HUGE glasss of water, and just swallowed them at once! Yuck!!!! So far I thought this first installment was rather harsh in many aspects. Hey Nick. Nah, no more recaps. I just don't have the time or patience to do them any more. Has it really been six seasons since I did that? eek!
Finally watched the first episode last night. First, off I hated it that The Muslims got Philiminated like they did. Blah blah blah things will be different blah blah blah but that's really sucky to do it that way. I guess they got tired of people thinking "oh, we're fourth, we're cool, we'll just take our time to get to the next clue".
*sigh* The Gays. I have no problem with fems --my wrists have been known to go limp at times and I'm a total opera queen, for pete's sake-- but damn! I'm tired of the "Gays as Clowns" thing. I wonder if they were cast as possible irritants for one of the other teams, like, say, The Muslims or Cletus & Brandine?
Why do I get the vibe that the male half of Team Disability is gay gay gay gay gay gay GAY?
"Do Muslims worship Buddah"? What the f**k?
I think I'm going to like Cletus & Brandine. Rob & Kim *shudder* I guess they get to fill the "Arguing Straight Couple" niche this year. I suspect they're going to be in the final 3, so I'll probably be sick of Tyler & James' "Well, we were in rehab and we learned...." stuff long before that. Seems as if one of 'em liked to huff the Nitrous a bit.
The Great Wall looks incredible. Weee, TAR is back.

Sep 21 2006, 12:38 PM
I'm late to the party as usual.
I thought the twist (though cruel) was a good idea. The goal was to instill constant fear that an elimination could happen at any time. In reality, I think this is the only mid-leg elimination we will see this race. 12 teams - 1 mid elimination - 8 pit stop eliminations = 3 final teams. There just aren't enough eliminations to do another mid leg elimination. In the past have teams dogged it early in a leg? Due to the twist, I'm guessing yes.
I very much dislike team Asia. They just strike me as over confident AND stupid. "... to the motherland. Although we're not Chinese." Pathetic. Funny, but pathetic. (But Yay! Not Chinese!).
Is it okay to call the former drug addicts Team Addicts? Or is that too mean? I'm just tired of having a 'the models' every race. 'the addicts' would be a nice change of pace.

I also got the sense that Peter (that's his name right) from the triathletes might be a closet case. He talked about never sharing his heart with any woman, and he seemed a bit more like a best friend than a boyfriend.
Maybe one of the detours can be a choice between seeing a performance of a musical or getting a spa treatment to honor all the gays they cast on the show. I mean, these two men were right out of central casting. "Yes, we need two big old 'mos and make sure it is clear they are gay. No more of those cute, butch types who confuse the viewers."

OK hope I do this right, my first post on the new board. I really don't like the Geigh's. They are the kind of gay guys I avoid like the plague in real life. Unforunately (and maybe its editing) but when they had to get tickets and walked past the open sales agent and stood around fluttering their hands, and got all bitchy and mean with the models because of their own ineptitude, I thought, BITCHES, don't get all pissy because you are an idiot. I LOVE the West Virginia couple. They remind me of a lot of normal farm folk, that just really don't care who or what you are, and always treat people with gracious respect. Its actually a trait I worry is becoming lost in rural America due to the influence of the religious right. Personally they are who I am rooting for, and those 2 black chicks are awesome. I don't know if physically either are going to be able to keep up the level of competition, but I can hope.
I just wanna see the Asian Bros naked. My god they are both very hot.

This season has been entertaining to watch ... far more than the previous seasons. One SLIGHT concern ... I liked the fact that the previous seasons of the race would hit less industrailized countries after they had been racing at a frantic pace for a few weeks. The unfamiliar surroundings would cause certain teams to completely fall apart ... Think Chuck & Millie in Malaysia, Season 4 of TAR. I'm not sure if we'll see the same level of Killer Fatigue during this season of TAR because Europe should be easier to navigate than say, Thailand.
Cletus and Brandine are rather cute and I'm hoping that they can last a few more legs in the race. I can't remember a team from previous seasons of TAR who seemed as ... *scratches head* ... unworldly as Team Hee Haw.
I'm far from PC, but bitchy fags was a little over the top. Of course, I'm sure that I'll now be labeled as a bitchy fag for that remark. *smirk* I'm not a fan of Team Gay either ... they are quite whiny, although they seem to care for one another, which says more than most of the couples on the race. I wonder how close they came to being eliminated during the last leg ...

Great episode, great result ...
I haven't really hated a person on TAR as much as Will from TAR 2, however ... Peter really boils my water. I know the whole editing schpeel, but this guy is a waste of space and should be exiled to a distant galaxy. Wow ... what a douchebag. Sarah, *shakes head*, what did you see in him?
Team Childbirth does have an air of pretension around them ... I expected them to say that they were going to cut a bitch when Team Pageant Queen cut in line and subsequently cut her leg. People, it's a f-ing race!
Speaking of Team Pageant Queen, I was pleasantly surprised by their never give up attitude after the climbing challenge. They stayed positive and overcame their own utter stupidity to avoid elimination. Fortunately for them, Team Gay managed to COMPLETELY muck up the roadblock.
*shrug* I hate to say it, but I am glad that Team Gay was eliminated. I know that the race can bring on some major stress, but the guy who looked like the non-Balky roomate from Perfect Strangers really grated my nerves. Geesh. you're tired, but buck it up and row the damn boat. They had to have finished HOURS behind the Pageant Queens.
As for the rest of the teams ... Meh. I'm just glad that this season's race has more challenging clues and it gives me hope for the rest of the season.

As for Peter, well he throws a hissy fit as big as any drama queen I've ever seen. Sarah might want to reconsider a relationship with this closet case. Why does it always seem as if she has to do the more physical challenges and overcomes her handicap but supposedly he-man Peter turns into a drama queen when he has to do some work?! As for the gay guys, well they fit a tv stereotype of gay men, but wasn't sad to see them go. Surely there must be a couple of guys from this board that could represent us better on future series? Cyd, you up for it? I'm rooting for the Kentucky couple and the Alabama moms. The Model/ Rehab guys are nice eye candy though.

The gay team this years wasnt as useless as the one in one previous season who only lasted one show.
