Okay, now you seem to have gone off the deep end. What could be so important for the gay community? It's a TV show that hardly anyone watched. It's not like it's a news report saying that Congress legalized gay marriage.

Oh my god! How can they cancel a show with Jesus as one of the characters?!

I just watched the episode off the NBC website. It's slow for the most part, but picks up at the end. The final drama really is good. Need to watch the next show to find out what happens.

How can they cancel this show without airing these episodes?! At least give people a chance to see it.

Joe, sounds like you woke up with your cranky pants on. Why is it so hard to believe that a TV storyline could send an important message that others feel may be important for the community? I mean, we seen 30-plus pages of the effects of Brokeback Mountain, a movie. So why is it hard to believe that a TV show may carry a message that's important for viewers to see? I'm not saying it's life or death, I'm just saying it's important for the gay community to support media images that create a discussion about society's perceptions of homosexuals.

"Brokeback Mountain" got its response because in many ways it's different from anything that has appeared in a movie before, and its story and characters resonated with its audience in a variety of ways.

Since you don't explain what exactly is so special about this show, just saying that the final 10 minutes are "important for the gay community," it's hard to really make a judgment. But considering that the show got low ratings in its first week and then the ratings dropped off until it was taken off the air, it would appear that most people either lost interest or had no interest in the first place. I know I've never watched it. I've seen plenty of TV shows that had gay characters and plotlines. It's not anything new. I decided, after reading previews about this show, that I had no compelling interest in watching it.

And really, no TV show or movie is as important as events in real life. Not even "Brokeback Mountain."

This show has a gay writer and exposing what some gay people go through seems to be part of his agenda. That's not a reason to watch it, but I appreciate that it's a gay supportive show. The show has been ok- something to do when nothing else is going on(too often the case!). The big event(the brothers get mistaken for a gay couple and get bashed) from this last show has been done on QAF, Cold Case, and probably others - I didn't get why it was so important to watch either. Maybe gramps finds out the awful truth now! eek!

I just re-watched the (gay-bashing) ending of last week's Book of Daniel, and it's a shame that episode never aired given this week's gay bar attack in Mass. Although a different set of circumstances, it's Life imitating Art.

How can we see the remaining episodes? We have seen the one up through the dedication and ground breaking for the school and the mafia guy making the comment to Father Daniel about being handsome.

We really enjoyed this show, of course we enjoyed Joan of Arcadia too. I guess it looks like ghosts win out over God on Friday nights. biggrin.gif We are trying to watch the Ghost Whisperer but it is getting darker and more Hollywood scary each Friday. Not sure if we will stay with this one or not. Besides, if they push Jennifer Love Hewitt's breasts up any higher and tighter she is going to demand stunt pay.

Just watched the new episode and thought it was good. This show definitely deserved more of a chance than it was given and it is unfortunate that it wasn't airing nationally at this time in particular. We learned more of the background of the twin son's death and saw grandma at her early stages of Altzheimers. Jesus and moral issues played a bigger role than in some previous shows- yeh!

Tonight's show was simply amazing. The entire hour, the shifting back and forth, seeing how many of the current stories began was riveting. What a powerful hour of television; the best episode yet. I really hate NBC for pulling the plug on one of the best new shows I have seen in a very long time.

It really was a moving episode. I am sorry we will not see these storylines played out and get to know these characters more. I hate getting hooked on a show that dies a premature death (Firefly, Profit, etc.).

Just watched the episode. Very moving. Even knowing the show is cancelled you can't help but care more and more for them. This show is comparable to an E.R. or a Grey's Anatomy, and it's a shame that a quality drama bites the dust, while Dancing & Ice-skating with the Stars is still on TV. Sad, sad, sad.

Although an atheist, I'm very moved by the use of Jesus in the show, and of Daniel Webster's struggles and frustrations with his faith amid his family's struggles and tragedy.

I wonder how many more episodes will be shown over the Internet, and will the show be available on DVD.
Joe in Philly
So many shows now make it to DVD, even shows that only air a few times. I think it's a safe bet it'll be out on DVD at some point. It'll probably be shown on Logo as well.

I'm hooked on this show, too. I think it's awesome. I don't understand the religious groups complaining when the show is so very pro-God. The scenes last week with Judith and Daniel's father talking about God being satisfied after they gave him Jimmy, that He can't take Peter...and the father saying God was more satisfied with their love, not their pain...it was wonderful. And Judith and Daniel have such a real and believable relationship...it's exactly what I want (only with another man). I could do without the dippy sister, but otherwise I really enjoy this show and look forward to new episodes (on the web now, sadly). I'm going to a WGA event on gay writers and producers next week and Jack Kenny is going to be there. I hope I get the chance to tell him how much I love his show.

I haven't yet seen last Friday's episode, but plan on watching it online tomorrow.

Meantime, the creator of The Book of Daniel wrote an opinion piece in The Advocate, Where was the gay mafia when I needed a hit?

I'm not very good at doing math, but the episode now showing on NBC's website may be the final one filmed. Watching the last few episodes online only confirmed my belief in the mistake NBC made. But the show is over and done with sadly. Hopefully they won't be so spineless the next time.

Was this the final episode? It seemed it was timed to come out around Easter. Like other episodes, it starts slow but gets better. This one was more fun than dramatic. Farewell...
Bailey
It was very fun, indeed. Adam's reaction when he and Peter are confronted by Adelle, David and Josh was typically priceless. And still, with all the humor, I just love Daniel and Judith's relationship. Those two actors sold the whole thing for me...they were wonderful. I am grateful we got to watch the remaining episodes at all (and I do hope for a DVD release someday...hell, if Petticoat Junction is on DVD, this better be) but sad if they're now over. Just when things were heating up with Wirth, too!

I finally watched this weeks episode. Anyway, this was a great one, lots of twists and turns and plot development. I loved the whole thing about Peter and his messy love life coming to fore and his grandfather finally learning he's gay. I'm not sure how I feel about the ex-boyfriend showing up and he and Peter reuniting. I liked David. And Daniel wanting to faint at Adam's news and having 'Jesus' prop him up was priceless! Too bad this is probably it for the series. It was getting better and better every week.

I met Jack kenny, the creator, at a WGA event on gay writers/producers in Hollywood, and he was understandably bitter about the end of the show. But it was so fascinating to hear how NBC embraced the show at first and really supported it, only to begin to shy away as word of the show got out and protests began (before an episode or even a promo had aired). The entire panel discussion on how Hollywood is caving to these protest groups was interesting and a bit frightening. None of the people on the panel (the only other i knew was Marc Cherry from Desperate Housewives) felt that any of the best shows of the last 30 years, like All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Taxi, Soap, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, would get on the air today. That's really scary.

Just rented the DVD on this series. If you missed this series when it was on broadcast television, take advantage of the DVD. It truly was nothing I expected. The series is somewhat like a mixture of Six Feet Under, Desperate Housewives, and Brothers and Sisters.
The show is well-crafted, and sometimes watching it, I was really surprised it was on network television. Too bad it can't find a home on Showtime or HBO.
This is very first time I rented a DVD that was a collection of television episodes, and it was a great choice.
Anthony D. Langford
It was a great show, probably one of the best of last season. I recently watched the all too short season again and hated when that last episode finally came because I wanted to know what happened next. Great show, interesting characters, fantastic acting and smart writing. Shame it couldn't last.

Too bad it was on at a lousy time.

Who stays home and watches TV on a Friday night? rolleyes.gif

Interesting that they would produce a DVD of a series that was cancelled so soon (after 4 episodes, I think). I was quite enjoyed Book of Daniel (and yes, I was home Friday nights watching it sad.gif ); it's too bad it wasn't given a fair chance.
