High school, huh? Those days are getting fainter and fainter in my memory. And I'm trying to resist the urge to edit my high school favorites to make myself look like I hung out with a cooler group of people. But from what I can remember, hopefully accurately, here's what I listened to in high school (1984-1988).
Prince - Sign o' the Times
Phil Collins - No Jacket Required
Peter Gabriel - So
Cars - Greatest Hits
Kool & the Gang - Emergency
Tears for Fears - Songs From the Big Chair
Arcadia - So Red the Rose
Duran Duran - Notorious
Go West - Go West
Jon Astley - Everybody Loves the Pilot (Except the Crew)
Art of Noise - In Visible Silence
Thompson Twins - Here's to Future Days
The cooler kids were listening to Beastie Boys and the Cure's Head on the Door.

Okay. Since I'm obviously older than GOD, here is what I remember.
High School 1970 - 1975 (Ontario had 5 years of high school, ending at Grade 13).
Alice Cooper - Killer
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Jethro Tull - (it had a purple cover)
Iron Butterfly
Diana Ross and the Supremes - Love Child
Beatles - White Album
Paul McCartney - Give Ireland Back to the Irish
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
David Bowie - Live (sense a pattern??_
ELO - Live
The Guess Who - American Woman
The Guess Who - Share the Land
Big Sur Festival - One Hand Clapping
That's all I can remember, and yes, I still have the albums.

High school from 1989-1993:
The Bangles, Everything - which I loved so much that I had to buy three copies of the cassette, because it kept warping from repeated listenings (especially during "eternal flame"), and then I've since bought it on cd twice!
Mariah Carey, self-titled debut and Emotions - back in the days when she could really sing!
Janet Jackson, janet. - she released this a month or so before I graduated. I thought "If" was just about the coolest song ever.
I still listen to all of these artists today ... and the Bangles are still my favorite band!

Ah those formative high school years. For me it was 1970-73,and while some of these albums may have been older and purchased before I went to HS,I remember arriving in Bloomington in the fall of '73 with these, among others,in tow.
Everything solo and collective from CSN&Y,
including the Best of Buffalo Springfield,Stills Manassass, and a Neil Young bootleg of "Live in Boulder."
Joni Mitchell-Blue,For the Roses,Ladies of the Canyon
Jackson Browne-self-titled,For Everyman
Elton John-self-titled,11-17-70,and Tumbleweed Connection
Eagles-self-titled,Desparado,One of these Nights,
On the Border
POCO-self-titled,Deliverin,Pick Up the Pieces
Beatles-White Album,Abbey Road
Hendrix-Are You Experienced
Loggins and Messina-Sittin In,Your Mama Can't..
Carole King-Tapestry
JT-Sweet Baby James,Walkin Man,Mudslide Slim
Steely Dan-Can't Buy a Thrill,Countdown to Ecstacy
Rod Stewart-Every Picture
Woodstock 1 and 2
Stones-Let It Bleed
Bee Gees- 1st album and Holiday, neither of which I really listened to anymore
Mountain-Mississippi Queen
The Who-Tommy
Carly-No Secrets
Creedence-Born on the Bayou
Allman Bros-Eat A Peach
I discovered Bruce and Buffett in '75,along with adding Warren Z,Bowie and the whole Mott,Lou Reed dynamic to the list.A lot of earlier and subsequent albums from people I already owned plus some Traffic,Dylan/Band and Yes and it's basically the music I still listen to.And it reads like a who's who of Rock & Roll HOF royalty,so I'd say it's been a pretty good 40 or so years.

1975-79.Mainly I remember the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever.Donna Summer at the time was unstoppable and the Bee-Gees were flying high. The most fun band at the time was K.C. and the Sunshine Band.I saw them at a festival we have in Detroit called the Taste-Fest,this was about 10 years ago.I felt like a kid all over again."I'm Your Boogie-Man!"

My music interests weren't broad or 'sophisticated' 1968-72 -I'd yet to discover diversified FM radio- that changed quite a bit once I went to college and much of what I've seen here would be favorites from that era. What's Going On from 1970 though is one of my favorites and is listed as one of the top albums ever. Obviously, I was mostly into Motown and pop R&B:
The Supremes Sing Holland Dozier and Holland
African Trilogy by Neil Diamond (not sure if this was the name)
My Whole World Ended by David Ruffin
My Love/Sign of the Times by Petula Clark
I Know a Place by Petula Clark
You're So Vain by Carly Simon
Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers by BT&V
MPG by Marvin Gaye
The Guess Who's Greatest Hits
The Four Tops Greatest Hits
The Temptations Greatest Hits
Bill Withers ???
Soulful by Dionne Warwick
3 Dog Night's Greatest Hits
The Supremes Greatest Hits
Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkle

From 84-88 the 2 albums I always had to have with me and over the years have kept buying this over and over from EP to Cassette to CD's I always lose them like in cars or boats or somewhere, maybe why Metallica is one of the best selling bands of all time, but I know Ive bought at least 5 copies of each over the years, thank God theyre backed up now. But Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning. Some of the other stuff off the top of my head is Black Flag, Billy Idol, Judas Priest some embarrassing stuff like Dokken and Bon Jovi. The girl I dated in High School was in love with George Michael, I was confused.

High School 1977 - 1981 aka "The Dark Ages"
Billy Joel
Blondie
Queen
Pat Benatar
the Evita cast album (and sadly Annie). One of my graduation gifts was Zenyatta Mondatta, for which I am enternally grateful. My radio station of choice was WNEW-FM 102.7.
I currenly have a love/hate relationship with Pat and Billy (radio killed the video star - the same songs are way too overplayed). I still buy whatever Debbie and the gang put out.

I was a total geek in high school (1981-1985), and totally caught up in the Top 40 world of the time - Mr. Mister, the Hooters, Duran Duran (I am ashamed to write this), not to mention the one-note pop/rock bands of that ear - Some college friends and I now refer to that time as the "ReoForeignLoverSpeedJourney" time (My sister - 2 years ahead of me - had her ticket stub from an early 80s REO Speedwagon concert on her wall until she graduated college). I remember driving to school in Billy Cardinal's customized Ford Torino (he had removed the seat belts because they weren't cool) listening to the same Loverboy tape every single morning.
Of course there was also a lot of Pat Benatar, Bruce Springsteen, the Police, Bob Sieger, John "Cougar" Mellencamp (he still had the Cougar then - sigh), not to mention Weird Al Yankovich. Then senior year of high school my friends discovered, and introduced me to, what we called "progressive rock" - mainly defined by REM, with a little Suzanne Vega rolled in.

I hate to differ with Keith, but I went to school in the real dark ages of rock, 1972-77. When I was in high school the most popular albums were many of the same that others have mentioned, but they were in school about 4 years before I was. Everyone loved the Beatles, the Stones, CSRevival, The Who, The Guess Who, Beach Boys, Crosby et al., and James Taylor. But all the albums were from at least 3-4 years earlier. the years of 1973-75 were like a lull in the history of rock and roll. Then I heard someone who would move that history forward again, listening to am radio one night I heard "Born to Run". Wow. I bought the Springsteen album and played it until the grooves were worn out. Then came the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and others, and then disco started my first year in college. But I felt like "Born to Run" was my own discovery, I turned on all my friends to the album.

Beg to differ, a lot. Some of my all-time favorite albums are from that era. Wow, where to begin. The New York Dolls' first album is easily a desert island disc. That album is over thiry years old, and it sounds as if were released yesterday. You've got all that Roxy Music, "Wish You Were Here," both by Pink Floyd and by Badfinger, and so many more.

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train... Now I can't get that song out of my head! I agree LkSimcoe,
Pearl was an excellent album, and in fact was the first album I ever purchased during my high school years in Ottawa, circa 1970, the same year Janis died (until then, I had only bought 45 rpm's). Besides "Me and Bobby McGee", other great tracks on
Pearl were "Mercedes Benz", "Buried Alive in the Blues" and "Cry Baby".
Other favourite albums from my high school years, and I credit my older brother for introducing me to some of these (he had a much bigger record collection):
Love it to Death, Alice Cooper
Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd
So Long Bannatyne, The Guess Who
Close to You, The Carpenters
Golden Bisquits, Three Dog Night
Band on the Run, McCartney & Wings

I attended Confederation High School (Woodroffe Ave) for grade 9 and then Sir Robert Borden HS (Greenbank Road in Nepean) for grades 10-13. I was always a year or two younger than my classmates, so when I graduated in 1973 at age 17, I think I was the only person in my class too young to legally drink, although that didn't stop me

I recall Bell HS wasn't far from my neighbourhood, in fact my older brother went there for one year.
Oh yes, indeed I remember all those places in Ottawa and Hull that you mentioned, and recall an early encounter at Major's Hill Park in '76...but, well, let's not go there. wink The stately old Lord Elgin Hotel is still a major landmark of course, but I'm sure the Coral Reef, St (Chez?) Henri and Sacs are long gone. Ah, fond memories, eh LkSimcoe?
Two more albums I forgot to include in my list from that era were
Déjà Vu by CSNY and
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.
