She canceled her tour dates and will have surgery soon. Her doctor expects her to make a full recovery. I certainly hope so.

In case you didn't know, this is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sending good, strong, positive thoughts ME's way. As a cancer survivor, I can relate to the struggle she possibly has to endure. Big hugs for Melissa, one of the bravest women in entertainment.

Wow, this is shocking news. I hope she makes a full and complete recovery soon and gets the rest she needs away from fans and the craziness of the music industry.

Did anybody see Melissa Etheridge on the Grammys last night. We had it on at the bar last night sans audio but we were so busy I barely got a moment to look at the screen. But I heard she stole the show with a Janis Joplin tribute and she came out bald from the chemotherapy. Kudos to Melissa! She told reporters she is now cancer free and undergoing radiation now. Hope she stays that way!

Melissa was BRILLIANT and it was so inspiring to see her come out and rock "Piece of My Heart" as only she (and Janis, naturally) can. I heard her say that they invited her and she wasn't sure if she'd do it, because she was worried about being bald and sick, but that there was no way she could let someone else perform "Piece of My Heart." She was fantastic - the perfomance, the courage, the whole package - fantastic.

Yes, and her co-singer Joss Stone was brilliant as well.

At first I didn't realize it was Melissa singing. I recognized Joss Stone and kept thinking that the other singer's face looked fmailiar. Then I realized that it was Melissa and remmbered that she was diagnosed with cancer. Both were amazing and for me, the highlight of the show.

I also loved Usher.

I agree with Bono that the show was one of the best (performance-wise) ever. U2 and Green Day blew me away. I didn't like the tsunami relief performance, though...pretty dang bad when you get a group of singers together and some of them forget the words to a Beatles' song!

Although I'm not up to date with the current music scene, I thought this was one of the best Grammy shows in recent years. Very good music. Interesting acts and combination of acts. Los Lonely Boys, for example: never heard of them, but liked them.

I hadn't realized that Melissa Etheridge was on chemo, and at first I thought it was some kind of radical lesbian fashion statement. ohmy.gif She looked good and sounded good. I didn't think Joss Stone did as well with Cry, baby (compare with Janis Joplin's version in the film Festival Express).

Did everyone see Ellen in the front row with Portia di Rossi?

I thought Usher was the heir to Michael Jackson in the dance department. Loved his set with James Brown.

Queen Latifah looked fab, but someone needs to tell her (and Rod Stewart) to stop singing standards.

One tv writer said the J.Lo-Marc Anthony duet looked like an audition for a latino soap opera. biggrin.gif

Didn't see the whole show as I kept flipping to Desperate Houswives and the Raptors game. But wasn't it a foregone conclusion that Ray Charles would rake in the awards: the Grammys always shower awards on dead legends for their posthumous albums.

I was just THRILLED that John Mayer won Song of the Year (for the writer) for "Daughters". I love him in general and that song is so well-written and so unusual for today's pop music. He rocks. That was truly a well-deserved Grammy.

OH! And I loved the Franz Ferdinand guy in the beginning. Who is he? That song rocked.

J Lo's dress looked horrible and frumpy after she sat down and stood up. She looked like she had a ring of love handles.

They make some awesome videos. Since I never listen to the radio anymore, I only see their videos on VH-1 Countdown. Franz Ferdinand isn't a guy...it's a band. Don't feel embarrassed, when I was a little kid, it took me forever to explain to my mom that Def Leppard wasn't a guy, too.

I thought it was a band at first, but then Bono said Franz Ferdinand was great and he'd be around for a long time ... I figured Bono knew what he was talking about! biggrin.gif

After hearing his mumbling intro to their performance and the bizarre acceptance speech, I figured Bono was a few sheets to the wind. smile.gif

By the way, did anyone else catch Nelly saying sh-t (a.k.a. "the brown word") during his presentation with...who the heck did he present with?

Franz Ferdinand was a real person (from their launch.com page):

Glasgow's art-damaged rock quartet Franz Ferdinand -- named for the Austro-Hungarian Archduke whose murder sparked World War I.

Mellissa Etheridge was GREAT!!! she rocked it out. Love Green Days performance and U2 and Usher as well. The best Grammys I ever saw. Alicia Keyes was GREAT as well.
Gaga4Gaby
Thank God someone told Alicia Keys that she's young and doesn't have to dress like an 80 year old woman. She's been looking so pretty lately!

Melissa has always been one of my favorites. It is great to see her bounce back from her ordeal. Here she is at the Grammys

Keep in mind, Melissa is also a Chicago Gay Games 2006 Ambassador. We couldn't be more thrilled to have such an amazing icon offering her support to the Gay Games movement.

Here I am (with other Gay Gamers) in a picture taken with Melissa at the House of Blues in Chicago.

I love Melissa and I think she still looks beautiful, bald or with hair! Just like my Dad was when he was fighting cancer and lost his hair that eventually grew back!

I hope she is cancer-free now and gives us many more years of great music!
