I was the decoy for a very recently taped episode of While You Were Out. I got to meet the entire cast, plus a bunch of producers and stuff, too.
A few quick thoughts:
1) they're all about doing gay couples - the director talked about a couple that they really wanted to feature (two guys, which would have been a While You Were Out first, I think) but it was unfeasible to do - my friends have a Safe Zone sticker on the door of thier house and some of the crew responded very positively to it
2) the production staff is YOUNG - I ended up being really f-ing depressed... by production staff, I mean the PRODUCERS, including the Big Wigs from BBC across the pond. Everyone was in their 30's. Grrrr...
3) the new host, Evan, is 31 years old. I couldn't friggin' beleive it...He couldn't have been more friendly, to be honest, but I was thinking, "Some young punk who lucked into this gig." When my friend told me how "old" Evan is, I about crapped myself. I haven't seen the new season yet, but in person, this Evan guy is really, really cute. Doesn't look a day older than 23.
4) Leslie is 10x sexier than Andrew. Leslie was really down to earth and cool. I had a beer with Andrew, and he took one for the road, too! But, I have to say that Andrew was the least friendly person I met. Everyone else introduced themselves and struck up conversation.
5) John Bruce, the designer, was so cool it's ridiculous. It's funny, because I've seen some shows with him as the designer, and I've thought, "I don't know about this guy..." I bumped into him in the airport and talked with him for a few minutes, and we talked on the plane for a minute or so, and then he said Hey again after taping finished. He's a really, really nice guy and he did a GREAT room for my friends.
Just a few reflections I thought people might find interesting. As the accomplice/decoy, I had a blast. The producers found us a GREAT hotel (Hotel Monaco) and lined up some really, really, REALLY cool activities.

The new host, Evan, is way freakin' cute and hunky. In his first episode, Leslie embarrased him by wearing a shirt that had a print of Evan posing shirtless. You can read more about him at the TLC website or at his own website,
www.evanfarmer.net. Meanwhile,
here is a tasty piece of open-shirted eye candy of Evan Farmer. So B Man, what do you mean by being a "decoy". I'd like to hear more about your experience.

B Man,
That's pretty interesting, really! Do you make appearances in the episode, or do you even know?
The Decoy is, I would think, the person who takes away the "victim" on the show. So I would think.
Funny that Andrew is not friendly. He seems kinda.. I don't know... odd to me though.
I would imagine the production staff is gay friendly. They are probably used to gays.

Leslie has always struck me as the coolest person on the show altho my heart still belongs to AD-J. The two of them strike me as the cut-ups of the show, doing all the work but never seeming to blow a gasket. I'm also a fan of Theresa Strasser, although I was shocked she is a comedienne. Never heard of her before. Is she completely off the show?

Yeah, apparently Teresa is doing stuff for Entertainment Tonight now... That's what a producer told me. She wanted to "do other stuff".
I don't get that. WYWO is a hot, hot, hot show ratings-wise. Sure, the travel sucks, but for two or three years, why not?!? Those kids are making serious coin...
Given Evan's background in TV and film, I can't imagine he'll stay with WYWO very long, either...

Evan fans who missed this weekend's new show should try to catch it whenever it re-airs. Evan gets his shirt ripped off by LaVar Arrington of the Washington Redskins!

What was the deal with that episode...did Arrington do *anything*??? Granted, I only saw the end of the episode, but he looked really, really LAZY...

Well B Man, I missed the second half of the episode, but in the first half Arrington didn't do much at all. He got frightened off by a big thunderstorm before the end of the first day, and just left - didn't say if/when he would be back or anything. Reminded me of the Trading Spaces with Andy Dick, where he expected to have a little two-day vacation while everyone else did the work.

I just started watching this show when I noticed Evan Farmer as the host. I did think the previous host was pretty cool too, but now I'm watching it regularly because of Evan. He's cute and sweet and has a great voice!
What do people think of his music? Apparently he toured with Britney. I actually never heard of his music until I read about it on the show's Web site.
With his background, I don't think he'll last either. I think he's doing it for exposure. But I'll enjoy it while he's around!

I remember Evan from playing Jerry "the Hunk" in MTV's fictional boy band 2gether and their song "You+Me=US". Amazingly, the MDB cheese cd collection does not contain EITHER of the 2gether cd's.

MDB, that "Calculus" song cracked my ass up! That show was soooo funny, so shrewdly observed. I was surprised it was on MTV...
All I can say is this: if I had realized Evan was 31 y.o. (and from the area I grew up, too), I would have actually chatted him up when we met. In hindsight, he's really cute!

From Slate, a funny take on While You Were Out, a "snark-bit cousin" to Trading Spaces, they say...
The editorial:
http://slate.msn.com/id/2089044/My favorite passages:
About Andrew Dan-Jumbo and hot-stuff designer Chase Dacota
QUOTE
Dan-Jumbo's relationship with Dacoda is the most intriguing aspect of the show; she invariably gives him an overwhelming work load, he chafes and complains about the lack of time, and a tense Mexican standoff ensues. Who will give in first? Are they in fact secret boot-knockers, concealing their ardor behind a smoke screen of intractability?
About Trading Spaces vs. While You Were Out
QUOTE
If Trading Spaces is TLC's shiny, happy home-design show, then While You Were Out is its snark-bit cousin, a show that more closely approximates the hellish reality of what happens when you give over your living space to bullying home-wreckers armed with fabric swatches and buzz saws. Ratings-wise, While You Were Out is a perpetual second banana to Trading Spaces, and no wonder; for viewers accustomed to Trading Spaces' insta-kit bliss, it's pretty painful to watch. But for those of us who get our kicks from the bittersweet taste of schadenfreude, it's a pure crack hit of pleasure.

Finally saw the episode with the Redskins player, he was so sweet. And DAMN! It was hot watching Evan get his shirt ripped off during a scrimmage. That Evan is so white, but he's definitely chiseled. I love the jeans he wears on the shows, by the way, anyone know where I can get them? (Yes, it would be great if he were in them, but I'd settle for just knowing the brand.)

I'm really enjoying the episodes of While You Were Out with that hunky carpenter Jason Cameron. That guy has some big guns on his arms. I wish he would get out of Canada and do some episodes in warming states so we can see less clothes on the man! eek!
He's the hunk in the middle damn, this is when I wish he dropped those tool belts!

That room was tight!! I loved it! the hockey club room was a lot of fun. The homeowner, she was cool too. That new carpenter is HOT!! I was panting whe I saw his arms thinking, "I want to get my arms that big!!"
Funny episode all around.

oh yeah, the room was cool too. I was so busy yapping about Cameron that I didn't talk about the redesign. I totally loved the idea of blowing up a picture of that hockey rink entrance. It looked so cool.

Hey, the
next episode features a gay couple! Here's part of the preview description:
QUOTE
When Mark contacted the WYWO team he already had a scheme in mind for his second floor apartment living room: \"Bring some Hollywood to Chicago,\" was his plea, and for the best possible reasons: Mark and partner Patrick recently moved from Hollywood to the Windy City for Mark's job.
The move was a big sacrifice for Patrick (who's got a background in the entertainment industry), and he really misses LA. Both guys have a deep love of vintage Hollywood and Forties TV. There's not a lot these two can't tell you about I Love Lucy. Mark desperately wanted to makeover their main living room in a classic Hollywood style. \"But please WYWO, nothing cheesy or predictable.\"

The
next episode takes place in a police department! All you cop fans take notice. Will Evan Farmer be in handcuffs? Will hunky carpenter Jason Cameron get stripped searched? OK, I guess I'm fantasizing, but should be a fun episode with our hunks in blue. I'm going to tune in for sure!

My fantasy came true when last Friday's episode where they redid a police station's rec room showed beefy carpenter Jason Cameron handcuffed and taken away. He looked so incredible with his buffed arms strapped behind him. If only they did a strip search!

I nearly lost it when that cute cop handcuffed Jason and lead him away. The fantasies just didn't stop! Anyway, he sure knows how to show off that buff body of his, wearing tank tops and tight tee shirts. I saw a preview of the episode for this coming Friday, January 30. They are showing the LaVar Arrington episode at 8:00, then a new one with a player from the Chargers. It looks like Jason is wearing a sleaveless tee shirt. Woof!

Yes, Friday nights are so enjoyable when WYWO is on and Jason Cameron is the carpenter. This past weekend was another great episode. Although he does wear as many sleeveless shirts, I just wish they move onto warmer weather where he really can take off a lot more. Maybe jump into a pool? Sigh. I do have to give props to the cameraman (who must be pitching on our side) for the occasional booty shot of Cameron, especially pending down! Yikes! (Oh, but I still have a thing for Evan, poor guy, do you think he really cut off one of his finger in that episode?)

Hunk alert dude! This week's episode is in San Diego and features this brother who's doing a room for his paraplegic surfer younger brother. And let me just say the brother Josh is a hunk! He looks so sweet and so fun to hang out with. I'm heading to the surf in San Diego! (You should definitely catch the repeats.) wink

Yeah, I saw that episode. Man, he is some beefy man. Everyone was jealous, and the girls were teasing him. (The designer also teased him and said he needed a man-bra for his big chest.) If only Evan could have taken his shirt off in a sign of unity! wink
BTW, how long is he taking to build that Web site!? Jason, if you need a designer, call me!

Jason does have a great body but doesn't have one ounce of the charisma of Andrew Dan-Jumbo. Jason was trying way too hard in the last episode. Evan, however, is growing on me.

I have been a huge fan of WYWO since seeing Evan!
He definitely has a nice body (love his pipes) and a very nice smile on a gorgeous face. OK, back to the real world
I also enjoyed AD-J, but Jason is not so bad either.

Want men in uniform? Did anyone see last Saturday's episode of While You Were Out? They went to West Point's academy and at the very end of the show, a whole bunch of cadets gathered at the redesigned room to surprise the wife of a colonel who serves as the mom to everyone. Anyway, there's one particular cadet who is HOT! eek! You'll know who I'm talking about because he's the last face you see before the show signs off, he gives this sweet smile while he's signing his name on some paper. You have to check him out. Sigh.
