With the success of the Xmen films and the spiderman film there is serious talk of turning the DC comics heroine Wonder Woman into a big screen film. One of the actresses being considered but not decided yet will be of interest to outsports fans. She is none other than Victoria Beckham the singer, actress and presenter who happens to be married to David Beckham.

The Wonder Woman movie has been in the planning stages for years ... I'd be willing to bet almost a decade. Casting rumors have swirled around everyone from Sandra Bullock to Catherine Zeta-Jones (my personal choice ... she'd be perfect) to Mariah Carey (!). The big problem, however, is that no one can seem to write a decent enough script.
I think part of the problem is that Wonder Woman can come across somewhat dated, especially in that she was fighting Nazis, and it's hard to strike a balance between her tradition and modern day perceptions of powerful female role models.
No one will ever replace Lynda Carter anyway. But I'd love for this movie to finally get off the ground. Even at its worst, it'd still be better than the awful TV movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby. Whoa but that was bad.

The current Wonder Woman comic book written by Greg Rucka is quite good. You are quite correct that Lynda Carter is the perfect Wonder Woman. Perhaps she could play Wonder Woman's mum Hippolyta in the film.

I agree with you, Sergei, that the current writer of Wonder Woman is doing a great job. Zeta-Jones would be perfect but not Mariah Carey. Maybe as a fellow Amazon sister but not the Woman herself. I also like the fact they've made her capable of flying instead of that invisible jet. I'm not sure I agree with Gaga that part of the problem would be her modern day portrayal. I think with some good writing she would be a great role model not only for young women but for young people. Of course, I don't think they should make her too perfect! I think that's part of the reason why X-Men and Spider-man are so popular is that they have their faults and are constantly battling the turmoils in their personal lives(especially Peter Parker).

I didn't mean to come across as saying that was my opinion of the problem. What I mean is that I think that's the problem the writers they've hired have encountered. The script has been written and rewritten and trashed to start from scratch, etc., etc., etc.
The perfection thing is another obstacle, because historically, the DC Comics characters (Wonder Woman, Superman) are more true-blue, perfect types. It's the Marvel Comic characters (Spiderman, X-Men, The Hulk) that first introduced superheroes as complex, troubled human beings that were potentially burdened by the responsibility of their powers. The exception to that being Batman ... which is why I think the Batman movies have been so successful. Wonder Woman can't get off the ground but they're already starting the Batman franchise over again.

I really loved the George Perez run from a while back, around the last time i read comics.
Jennifer Garner would be great, but i think she is starting an Elektra franchise.

Adam,
You know, Luv you to death, honestly, but this statement almost had me ready to smack you!
I'm sorry, but I'm a purist, on many levels, when it comes to comics to movies, and I couldn't support this re-write at all.
However, if I remember my WW lore correctly, she had a black sister at one time. Perhaps she could also be in the movie and Jada could play her. How about that compromise? Of course, she'd need a new name. I think she had been called Nubia, and I just don't think that name would go over these days.
I agree that Linda Carter really was the perfect WW. In many ways, I feel bad for whoever takes the role, as they will always be compared to her.
However, the movie will need a very different feel from the TV show if it's to be successful. However, I think a movie that focus some on the "Strong woman on her own for the first time in the big city" could give you humor and drama both.

Ditto about CatZJo to be WW. But Jennifer Gardner would be great also. Another good pick would be
Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls, although they may have to stuff her chest for the WW effect.

All for merely tossing out the idea of Jada Pinkett-Smith?!? Glad I didn't mention my other choice: Rupert Everett. wink Seriously, your idea of including JP-S as one of the Paradise Island residents--perhaps one of WW's sisters--is better than have her be the one & only WW.

Fu*k who's going to play Wonder Woman. The most important question is, who's going to sing the Wonder Woman theme song! wink
I'm thinking they would update it to be sung by one of the new bands that are around. One of the "The (Fill in the blank)s" bands.
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
and the power you possess.
In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.
Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.
Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned on you.
And the magic that you do.
Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fall,
Change their minds, and change the world.
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You're a wonder, Wonder Woman.
And if Jennifer Garner is Elektra, then she can't be Wonder Woman. You've got that whole Marvel/DC, Is she Elektra/Is She Wonder Woman conflict of interest!

Vanessa Williams was also on the rumor list for a while along with Lucy Lawless, who faces a similar conflict of already being a super hero. Which reminds me... boy, do i miss Xena.
I think No Doubt could do a great version of the theme song. But it would probably go to someone like Beyonce Knowles. Speaking of, she could be a good Diana Prince. Hmmm....

You had me at first with "boy, do I miss Xena" because I do too! Then you spoke sacrilege!
Beyonce? Holy (fill in your favorite explicitive here)! She can't act at all, and would ruin the movie!
And Adam, I'm glad you like my idea about the Sister thing and all. because you can get into the whole "Amazon goes bad" thing in a sequel. Overdone, yes, but still could be good.
As to the Theme Song, I choose Erausre!

How about reuniting the cast of "Saved by the Bell" for the Wonder Woman movie? Picture it: Tiffani Amber "Kelly" Theissen as Diana/Wonder Woman. Mark Paul "Zack" Gosselar as Maj. Steve Trevor. The plot will involve an evil genius bent on world domination (Dustin "Screech" Diamond) assisted by a Paradise Island Amazon (Elizabeth "Jessie" Berkeley) bent on revenge for losing the Paradise island games to Diana. After Maj. Trevor turns up missing on a mission to find the our evil genius, a special missions force led by a highly decorated soldier (Mario "Slater" Lopez) with the help of Wonder Woman set out to save the Major, join forces with him, and save the world. Under the supervision of a five star general and war vet (Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins). Of course all of the action is being closely followed by a world famous TV journalist (Lark "Lisa" Vorhees) getting the scoop. It could work!!!
Okay I don't know what's scarier. That i actually sat here and made up this little "plot" or that i know the cast of Saved by the Bell by name.

I loved Saved By The Bell ... Lark Vorhees ruled my world. The best episode ever is when Lisa has the fashion show and Zack kisses her. Screech accidentally sees them kissing and (having loved Lisa all his life) ruins the fashion show.

I do remember spinning around a few times in my bedroom, imaging I did turn into someone else...
When and if they do make a movie of this. Linda Carter has to be in it!!! Oooo, maybe she could be the villaness...Could you imagine the irony...

Her name is Melina something(it's a Greek name). You're not the first to mention her because when I first heard of the possible Wonder Woman movie her name came up. I don't think her younger co-star would do as Wonder Girl. She has too much of a girl-next-door look. Anyway, Melina will be in CSI: New York this fall along with Gary Sinise. Speaking of Catwoman, I'm sorry, but it looks silly. I've even heard that the it got jeers at some screenings. Halle's costume is a bit much and the fact they didn't try to stick with the DC Comics version, or at least close to it, is a low point among many fans. I think I like her better as Storm than Catwoman even though she might not play the mutant the third time(at least so I heard).

Actually... There WAS another Catwoman, a not-Selina Kyle Catwoman. So the Catwoman movie isn't totally off...
But, back to the topic at hand, Angie Harmon should be Wonder Woman. Nuff said.
My Steve Trevor nominees:
1. Mark Ruffalo
2. Ed Burns
3. Jason Patric
My choices for villain:
1. Ares, God of War
2. Silver Swan
3. NOT The Cheetah
Depending on what direction a script would go in...
Jodie Foster should be Mindi Mayer
Olympia Dukakis should play the Greek professor/translator I can't remember
