I was going to post this story on the New York Yankees thread (since Mickey Mantle played his entire career with that team), but it might get missed there by non-Yankees fans (if there are such people smile.gif )

The CBC news reported tonight about the search for an extremely valuable Mickey Mantle baseball card, buried in a time capsule in a school yard in Windsor, Ontario.

My 6 year old nephew has started collecting baseball cards. Most of the ones he has (about 100 now) are already stars, or rookies, i've never heard of yet. Who knows, maybe one of those rookies will turn out to be a hall of fame player and that card will be worth a heck of lot more than the $4 the pack cost.

My nephew's also a baseball card collector--kind of devoted to Topps--and is especially pleased when he gets a Dodger card. And, don't we all know at least one adult who bemoans the loss of his childhood collection, which allegedly contained all the prize collectibles ($$$) before his mother gave the whole thing away!

I have a Ron Cey rookie card and an autographed Derek Sanderson rookie card which sits just below my nameplate outside the office cubicle.

I can remember sitting on my neighbor Freddy Tokar's back porch as a 6 year-old, enduring his showing me his collection of BB cards, and recognizing only Mickey Mantle among the names and stats he knew by heart.

What I was REALLY hanging around for was when Freddy and his sister had to go in after the streetlights came on to take their baths, and then running out to their glass picture window and shoving their naked butts against it, with their angry Mom following close behind and glaring at me while she strapped 'em both with one of their Dad's belts! biggrin.gif
