I'm just making a play on the new movie "Not Another Teen Movie" because some, but not all of us, have had it up to here with Gabe Kapler posts. But the New York Post this morning reports Kapler is being eyed by the Mets as the Rangers are interested in Kevin Appier.

I suppose Kapler would make a great Splash in the Chelsea area.

Hey, amazin12,

Are you trying to drive the moderators of this BB nuts? They see "Kapler" and they'll think "This should be in the Hot Jock forum.", and yet it's about a legitimate MLB trade.

Good luck, guys.
satxbuddy1
What the Ranger's need is a good pitching staff. Leave Kapler in the outfield and since everyone is sick of him and his hot, musceled baseball jock body....I'll just take him home after every game.. , along with Javy (ok, he'll have to fly in from Atlanta, but hey...it could happen) , we'll just be fine.

The Baltimore Sun reported yesterday that the Orioles and Rangers GM's (John Hart and Sid Thrift) had agreed on a trade during last week's winter meetings in Boston to send Gabe Kapler to the Orioles in exchange for pitcher Sidney Ponson but owner Peter Angelos (who demonstrates more every day how little he knows about running a successful baseball team) vetoed the trade (only about the 50th decent trade during the last five years that he has nixed that would have helped the O's - just ask Pat Gillick about his two years in Baltimore before he got so fed up and quit)....not to mention, having Cordova and Kapler in the same outfield would have been great to look at on a daily basis, even if they lose 98 games again this coming season (thanks to Peter A. - and the A. stands for more than just Angelos).

I'd welcome Gabe with open arms(and legs)!
Ted
Good heavens! Gabe the Babe patroling the outfield at Shea Stadium? That would even get ME to a Met game!
sportinlife
Wondered what so many of you saw in this guy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

EWWWWWWWWWW.

As a player, he has "Journeyman" written all over him.
Jerzoid
Ahhh, the first signs of spring ..... crocuses....midseason replacement TV series....and Gabe Kapler tributes! Yes, yes, yes, he's not headed for the Hall and when he's retired I'll be one of like six people who will remember him. But in the meantime He's All That and Boppo and Coo Coo McCoo and El Mariachi and Yo Bembe and Listerine Fresh and Iceberg Lettuce Crunchy and Del Fuego and General Tso's Chicken Spicy.

I'm a mess.

So post YOUR pic and we'll all make a comparison... is "journeyman" at their salaries (and exposure) really such a bad thing?
JC
He's not that bad. He's only 26, and he was an adequate regular player last year. I'm not saying he'll ever be a star, but journeyman to my mind implies more of a roleplayer than a regular starter, and he should be able to hold down a starting job for a few years.
Munson Man
Even if he can't hold a job down, he can hold me down! He is MUY CALIENTE!!
Thumper
OK, What's a journeyman? I thought it was a plumber?

Yep, Gabe's not a star player a la Mike Piazza, but he's far from being a journeyman.
Jim Allen
A journeyman is a guy who bounces from team to team, hitting .260 with OK power but never really posting big numbers. He also had some trouble in the outfield last year.

Utahman4U, is that how it works here now? We're not allowed to do a thumbs down on a guy? That's news to me.
Zman
Gabe's not bad at all. Remember he had the longest hitting streak in baseball a couple of seasons ago. Obviously he has power and work dedication. Each time he is moved or considered being moved it's because of Juan Gonzalez, one of the top 10 players in the game.

Jim, I'd agree with you if Kapler were a 28-year old left fielder. But .260 with moderate power and speed in a 25-year old center-fielder is still a player with some potential, in my opinion. If that becomes .280-.290 with good power at 27-28 (not that unlikely), that's a solid player. Hell, Brian Giles wasn't that good at 25 (not that I'm predicting Kapler to do that!).
Herr Tiggee
Just for old times sake....
Blech!
mets57
Um, cut out all this stuff and nonsense. Don't be a party pooper...Okay, why don't you post your pic as well, and we'll judge if you're the paradigm of male beauty!
BoSoxRudy
Wow, Kapler's just 25? I guess all the steroids make him look so much older.
hogeye
Yeah, he's not the greatest player to come down the pike, but he's a hard worker and will "pump up" ticket sales from those who appreciate his "athletic" form and grinning, friendly countenance. Of course I am just interested in his "bottom" line - his "stats".
Jim Allen
Tzeile, yawn. So, Kapler is immune to criticism then? Frankly, it's nice to see that not everyone buys that he's The Ultimate Male Fantasy. Some of us find him, well, you know, grotesquely overbuilt.

And if I, or anyone else, can't criticize him because we don't have a body like that (thank Goddess) then y'all can't criticize music because I've played professionally in bands and I know better than you. Deal?

I didn't think so.

Kapler isn't on the juice. Remember when he pissed in a cup on Real Sports to prove that his muscles are all him? Big Mac and some others were none too happy at the time.

Face it: The dude is a world-class stud.
George Twins fan
He's Anna Kornikova in a baseball uniform! Average talent, way above average looks.

Since the topic of steroids has been broached, doesn't MLB conduct blood and urine tests?

Jim: What a rare, precious moment to see you defend Au Tiger. C'mon, lighten up. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment.
RCKSoniK
Which would you rather do?
A) Watch the movie Teen Wolf 1 staring Michael J. Fox with Gabey in a Mets uniform and a shaved chest.
or
cool.gif Watch the movie Teen Wolf 2 staring Jason Bateman with Gabey in a Rangers uniform and a hairy chest?
mets57
I'd rather see the PERFECT 10 shirtless pic of GP43!!!!

Don't hate him 'cause he's beautiful!

I think Kapler's the hottest non-Yankee in baseball.
Tarkus
Gentlemen, the topic is Gabe Kapler as a baseball player. Please direct comments about his looks to the Gabe thread in Hot Jocks. I'll bump it up there just in case.

Thanks.

Tzeile29, I don't think MLB actually bans steroids (unless they've done so recently). In any event, it seems like the knowledge of masking agents always runs a little ahead of the testers, so even if they do test, they're hardly a guarantee that everybody's clean...

I suspect there's an awful lot of steroid use these days...too many players have returned from the offseason suddenly packing an additional 20 pounds of muscle in recent years. I'm not pointing the finger at Kapler, specifically, though...
