Okay, PhillyFan, have you seen it? If not, don't skew it since you haven't seen it. LIke the old adage - Don't judge a book by its cover.

If you have ... skew away man!! smile.gif

Uh, Allen, you are encouraging him. He loves that.

I guess that's why, in my twisted, twisted way, I'm a Philly Fan fan. biggrin.gif
stinger85
M&Ms = Michael Moore...

I think PhillyFan has the same problem with this film that I do. Any documentary can be made to show whatever the narrator wants. I'm pretty sure I could make a documentary on how to eat healthy at McDonalds...or the hazards of cooking at home...or the hazards of whatever.

If Spurlock offers advice/suggestions on what to do different to eat more healthy, then I feel it would be an educational movie. If he doesn't do that, than I think it is just criticism and complaining.
PhillyFan
My point is this...

NO i did not see the movie... but even without seeing it i can tell you what happens...

Man eats alot of McDonalds...

Gains weight, feels bad.

Blames McD's

I'm saying that we cant blame companies for people being idiots and only eating their food. So i'm waiting for some little "people cant think for themselves" apologist to come in and say how terrible the world is..

At the end of the day, i'm baiting allen to say... I worked out and i'm ripped. Yeah you caught me GJ. I'm also waiting for the perfect, sting's got a big booty comment to come out.. but yet, it hasnt...

Tally Ho.
stinger85
Poor PF, you keep confusing big booty with fine piece of ass!! And you were probably working the Big Mac angle when you should have realized it's much more like the Golden Arches!! wink
GatorJamie
Huh. I'd heard that stinger's booty was popular, not necessarily big.
stinger85
I can't serve 46 million a day like McDs, but I do what I can to keep up with 'em!! biggrin.gif

No, not really. There's a lot more involved, and a lot of his main point is based on personal responsibility. But if being wildy reductive suits your agenda better, have a ball. I just think it's a little silly to dismiss something with so much authority when you haven't even bothered researching it is all.

That's PFs M.O.

It's hard to research when you're sloshed all day!!
PhillyFan
It's been boring debate... need to jazz it up a bit.

Even the booty jokes are become old and used.. just like... well, nevermind.

Can you imagine if a Frenchie did this for a month... Fat, Smelly and hairy... ewwwww.. and thats just the chics.
illini n milwaukee
But a "Frenchie" wouldn't do it! They're that damn smart! wink

And Philly, you think this documentary is pointless and stupid. Remember the guy suing McDonalds for him being obese? Obviously there are people out there who don't understand. It's called personal responsibility!
PhillyFan
NO i'm saying that i could make a documentary and show what i wanted to show.

If you saw bowling for columbine, you notice that M&M specifically went after the NRA and K mart for selling the bullets... that was his point.

I could do that same thing, except paint a picture of where were the parents? Same story, 2 different results.
stinger85
I agree with PF that a documentary is gonna show whatever the narrator wants to show. For example, Spurlock could have gone after video games to blame them for the youth becoming obese and unhealthy since they are not outside getting exercise. But another person could do a documentary on how video games improve hand eye coordination, quick thinking and analytical skills, etc. That doesn't mean that documentaries aren't entertaining. I love learning new things and how things work. I guess that I'm just surprised that so many people were surprised by the outcome of this movie. I feel that it is more like anti-McDonald's propaganda.
Allen
However, it is not an anti-McDonalds movie. He picked it since thwo girls sued them for getting them fat.

Everyone has responsibility to eat healthy and stay active. If I can do it ... anyone can. It's not hard to do!! Just do it!

And PhillyFan ... I will not admit to anything. smile.gif

With all the information out there, if you claim you dont know what you are doing by eating poorly and being 10,000lbs then crying about it after the fact... you are either...

an idiot
stupid
or both
This is the generation of entitlement and victimization.

Of course the dude hammed it up, super sized it and all.  He went to the extreme.  If the guy worked out before then stopped... of course you are going to feel tired and run down.

That defeats the whole purpose of it being a fair documentary. If you stop your exercise routine, then your body hasn't adjusted to its new condition. Eating ANYTHING will give you extreme levels than usual.
bear321
Hey, when I do eat at McD's I order the same old thing. Two double cheeseburgers without cheese extra pickle, extra onion. I know, I know double cheeseburgers with no cheese. Ha!! That way I can get them from the dollar menu and not pay extra. I also order the yogurt fruit cup thing. Very yummy. Has strawberries and blueberries with vanilla yogurt. We have the touch screen order system at our McD's so I get to do all the work and eat all the fat too. Next thing you know they will have you prepare your own food. Hmmmmm.... I wonder if Diebold made these touch screen systems. Ha!!! biggrin.gif

Does a documentary have to be fair? The filmmaker is expressing his point of view. I don't know if a documentary should be held to the same standards that, theoretically, news reports are.
stinger85
Good point JIP. If he had eaten McDs and not gained an extreme amount of weight he wouldn't have had much for a documentary.
stinger85
It'd be nice to see him do a sequel though. How to lose the 25lbs while eating fast food!! There are ways to eat healthy at fast food chains. Burger King has a great side salad that I wish McDonalds would copy.
DallasUNC
All I have to ask at this point--- anyone actually eating the Go Active meal at McD's? I dont think I will be, even for the cheap ass pedometer- which they call- get ready-- the Stepometer (trademarked name no less).

Apparently MTV is refusing to run ads for Super Size Me. Guess they don't want to tick off their other advertisers. Story.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Cable network MTV refused to air advertisements for documentary \"Super Size Me,\" a critical look at the health impact of a fast-food-only diet, its distributors said on Wednesday.

Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films said in a statement the cable TV channel targeted to young audiences told them the ads are \"disparaging to fast-food restaurants.\"
On the positive side...

The film began playing in theaters about two weeks ago and rose to No. 10 on domestic theater box office charts this past week. It has grossed $2.9 million in ticket sales -- a hit for a documentary -- and last weekend scored a per screen average of $6,759, just behind No. 2 film \"Troy\" with $7,014.

The film expands to 165 screens from 148 for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday weekend, which the MTV ads had been timed to promote, a spokesman for the distributors said.

Here's a recent twist:

'Super Size Me' Gets Downsized by MTV
Wed May 26, 7:14 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Film documentary Super Size Me, a critical look at the health impact of a fast-food only diet, has been downsized at cable network MTV which has refused to air advertisements for the film, its distributors said on Wednesday.

Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films said in a statement the cable TV channel targeted to young audiences has told them the ads are "disparaging to fast food restaurants."

The distributors said MTV sister network VH1 was planning to use clips from the movie in a program called Best Week Ever, but the clips were pulled before the show aired.

An MTV spokeswoman was not immediately available to comment. MTV and VH1 are owned by media giant Viacom Inc, which depends on advertising for a major portion of revenues.

For Super Size Me, director Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but food from McDonald's restaurants over 30-day period, and if asked whether he wanted the larger, "supersize" meal, he always said yes.

Over the month, he gains weight and his health declines. Documenting the impact are not only the cameras but also his doctors. Spurlock mixes in various facts and figures about food and dieting as he travels the United States talking to health and food experts in 20 cities.

In March, McDonald's said it would eliminate its supersize menu options by year end. At that time, a company spokeswoman said the decision was unrelated to the movie.

Super Size Me has been a hit at box offices, and it earned Spurlock the Grand Jury Prize for best documentary director at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The film began playing in theaters about two weeks ago and rose to No. 10 on domestic theater box office charts this past week. It has grossed $2.9 million in ticket sales -- a hit for a documentary -- and last weekend scored a per screen average of $6,759, just behind No. 2 film Troy with $7,014.

The film expands to 165 screens from 148 for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday weekend, which the MTV ads had been timed to promote, a spokesman for the distributors said.

Well, there's yet another reason to hate MTV. rolleyes.gif

OK -

You have caught me - I admit it - I have a thing for McDonalds French Fries. I have even been known to enjoy a Big Mac occaisionally.

I do it maybe a half dozen times a year though.
Every Day for 30 days???

Lets face it - McDonalds is to good food what an MCSE is to computer networks.

{{{Chuckle;-> You have NO idea how long I have been waiting to say that!!}}}

F.Y.I. there is a large article about this story in the June's edition of Mens Health. Very in depth article.

I just skimmed over the comments about the film.
I thought it was really good. I rented the DVD a couple months ago. The scariest thing didn't make the movie but was in the extras.
He took several differnt fast food items and put them in glass containers. A burger, salad , fish sandwich etc from differnt fast food joints.
He also put McDonalds fries in one container and homemade fries from a restaurant. They showed him checking out the containers over period of time. 3 days, 9 days, 2 weeks. Each time you could see the mold and molecular breakdown of all the items EXCEPT the McDonald fries. Even after 2 weeks the McD fries looked exactly the same. Not a hint of mold or breakdown.
That's pretty scary. What in the hell kinda preservatives are put in those things that even mold won't grow on them after 2 weeks.
My trips to fast food joints are rare but after seeing that fast food fries came off my menu forever!

I have eaten at McDonalds three times in my life. Each time I had a toxic reaction to their food. I find their marketing heavily racist. I find it super-ironic that there is a Ronald McDonald house when the restaurant chain's entire menu is nutrient deficient and cancer/disease causing. Even if they tried the quality of their food product is highly suspect.

Interesting graphic related to the Super Sizing of food today.

You can even see it in dish sizes. I inherited a couple of sets of china from my mother and grandmother and their full dinner plates are smaller sizes than china we have today.
Seems everything we have today is designed to make us eat more than we need or is good for us. We were in Florida a while ago and even the childrens portions at some restaurants were more than I as an adult would normally eat at lunch, and I certainly could not eat all of the adult meal. A couple of times we ordered one meal and split it, which the waitress thought decidely odd (and it was).
