Did anyone watch the latest installment of Queer Eye for the STraight Guy? I had reservations about this whole "wedding season" installment. First, because it seems out of place in December. Second, because I'm tired of watching gay men be the bridesmaid, but not the bride. We're always planning weddings for others, but we're not allowed to have our own! Ugh!

But after last night's first episode, I'm hooked again to Queer Eye. (Why did they have such a long break this last time?) Mostly because they're smart to find cutey straight guys for us to watch! I love Joe from last night, he seems really adorable. And what a cute best man (Sean)! And his fiancee seems so sweet. It'll be fun to see them plan their wedding tonight.

I stopped watching this show long ago. It became so formulaic that I completely lost interest. Carson will act all nelly, Kyan will shout that the guy is shaving wrong, Thom will decorate the home from the West Elm catalog again, Ted will make some dish that the guy can't replicate, and Jai will sit down on the new sofa, hands on knees and emote with the straight guy teaching him how to write thank you notes. I don't plan on tuning in again, even if they try to make it all about straight peoples' weddings.

Just a bit of gossip:

My friend works for a gay media outlet which has some media events throughout the year. A couple of years ago (right after the show became kind of a sensation), the Fab 5 showed up at one of their big fundraisers. He said they were the biggest divas. Really standoffish and aloof and also quite demanding.

I bet things would probably be a tad different now that the show is on it's last legs. At 15 minutes apiece, I'd say their 75 minutes are just about up.

A friend of mine who doesn't let a sentence go by without saying "I know him" or "My friend went to high school with that actor" or "My parents are friends with (flll in the blank)"

Came home from NYC after a weekend visit (actually a weekend of drinking and drugging...but I digress...) He was all proud and kept saying I went to (whatever club it was) and danced with Carson Kressley! And he kissed me on the cheek" I, along with a few others are like "Um...ok...and that's a big deal because....."

He was pissed LOL I know all of us here are all butch (snicker) and not the "stereotypical" gays (snicker again) but why do they, the fab 5, have to be so extreme?

I hadn't watched an episode of Queer Eye for a long time, but TiVoed last night's episode with Joe and the wedding proposal... Well, I have to agree with batboy... it was one of the best episodes ever! That Joe could not have been hotter. I'm so NOT into straight weddings, so it was strange that both me and the BF got a bit misty during the episode. The whole thing about the sailboat seemed a bit strange, but other than that it was very entertaining.

I, for one, don't find the Fab 5 extreme at all. Carson is kind of out there but I find him very funny and the rest of the guys seem very average and normal to me in terms of their gayness. I think they represent a lot of gay guys to be quite honest. I will agree that the show is formulaic but so is just about every other show on TV.

Finally, someone else who actually saw the show! Thanks for your comments OtherFSU.

The whole debate about the Fab 5 being out there is so redundant. People have been arguing that since the show premiered, and yes, everyone agrees Carson is the most out there. But he is who he is.

All reality shows are formulaic (Survivor, Amazing Race), but what makes each episode interesting is the fresh blood that's brought in for eye candy and such. So if you missed the aforementioned Joe, you really should turn in tonight. I consider Joe among the classics, just like John B. (the urban cowboy proposal guy) and Ross M., the military blondie with the hot salsa girlfriend.

I watched it, and I did get teary-eyed at the end, but as much as I love the Fab Five, I think I don't need to watch the show any more. It's gotten away from "let's take a straight guy who's a big mess and clean him up some and help him improve his life" -- now it reminds me too much of that "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" type show -- too often they get sob stories and spend a bunch of money to help make dreams come true. And all of these wedding-oriented shows...I'm just not interested.

It's terrible -- I get teary-eyed a lot more easily now. Of course, the other night watching the football game, all I could do was laugh. eek!

I was watching Queer Eye last night and they made over this adorable newbie!! He's only been out for a year and he's been having trouble meeting guys since he has 4 straight roommates and mainly hangs out w/ straight people. Not a bad thing, but when you want to meet gay people, it's a little bit hard to do.

Well, Jai took him to a park and they were watching this football game and lo and behold! It was a gay football team. Huh. And by the captioning on my TV, it was created by this guy named "Sid" who seems like a swell guy.

And the blind date Jai set up w/ his friend, Michael. I want to date Michael.

I have to say, it was awesome to see a fun and FUNNY Queer Eye episode.

I liked last night's episode. The gay guy they made over was rather bland though. And he was painfully awkward at times. His "date" though was h-o-t! I want him. smile.gif
