An example of this is Bob Brenly kissing Luis Gonzalez' ass. Gonzalez is hitting .277 with 16 HR's and 58 RBI's. Larry Walker of Colorado is hitting .350 with 20 HR's and 67 RBI's. Luis Gonzalez was chosen to go to the All-Star game by Brenly and Larry Walker stays home.

Gonzalez had a helluva 2001, and there are perks with being on a pennant winner. And Larry Walker is slugging 230 POINTS LESS on the road! He may be the first player whose home park advantage costs him a Hall of Fame plaque.

In retrospect, Gonzalez's All-Star selection looks good, and shows why managers shouldn't enslave themselves to 3 months' worth of stats. Luis is hitting nearly .400 since the break with 8 homers, and is on pace for 124 RBI.
As for Walker, yes he has a narrow league lead in batting average... by hitting .403 at Coors and .324 on the road! If he wins the title, can I buy him an asterisk? His OPS is over 300 points higher at home, too. Gonzalez is having the better year of the two.
